Bwpz' First PF Tek Attempt

If you're going to PC your syringes, I would wrap them in tin foil and set them on top of your jars, so they're not in the water.

Some people get away with just boiling a pot of water, sucking the water up in the needle, expelling it, then doing that like 3 times.
Yeah I was going to put them in foil and PC them to use for my LC.

Yeah I used them all in those 24 jars, so I ordered an APE and they gave me a PF Albino for free.

I know you're supposed to use alcohol, it's in every single tutorial I've read. It helps with sterilization. And when I wipe with the alcohol the first time, I would use a new alcohol pad to wipe after the flame. I appreciate the help on the needles, I don't wanna melt em xD
Don't let anything touch the sides or the bottom of your cooker - then you WILL melt them. If you are at all careful and you use injection ports, you don't have to flame anything. If you want to use alcohol don't "wipe" them but imerse them in 91 percent isopropal or denatured. The point in all of this is fluidity, smoothness and deliberate movements - Someone who is practiced at doing sterile work can usually do well even in the open air where someone who is not can fail even in glove box.

Yeah I was gonna wrap the needles in aluminum foil. And I plan on getting a glove box, I'm sure I can handle the hand movements, I hope xD

Practice before you use actual materiel. Don't let the wrapped needles touch the sides either. The plastic sheath around the needles can melt.

Hey Bwpz, I have answered all my questions with LC's so I figured I should answer yours too :)
The way I do my LC lids, is the main hole in the middle for the injection, then another hole off to the side to make sure there is no vacuum.

I also do my lids a different way. What I do is use the tyvek envelopes from USPS, trace a lid on it (I can fit 12 on one envelope).
Cut those out and then using silicone, put some on where the injection port is for a S.H.I.P. (Self healing injection port)
Let that dry and cure for 24 hours and you have re-usable tyvek lids! No need for micro pore tape on injection ports because they self heal.

I make sure the tyvek is double layered also, because the tyvek on those envelopes is relatively thin.

Yeah I was going to use the silicone but I'm going to wait until next time because it's either silicone or a glove box, and I figure the glove box would be more important. I have made tyvek lids for all my jars except the LC, I just used micropore tape on the injection hole and the 2 breathing holes. On my rye grain lids I have tyvek over the three holes and micropore tape only over the injection point. I'll put another piece over it after I inoculate them.

Yeah I would much rather have a glovebox then some SHIP lids haha.
Good luck creating your GB!
I cracked my GB and my FC so hard in the making, but it seems like they pulled through so far :)

If I might say, I think you should get the all clear tote with the snap on lid, I wish I did, so I can put more supplies in through the top (take the lid off).
But for mine, the lid is opaque so I have it flipped upside-down so really the only way to put stuff in is through the 4 inch holes in the side :p
Im gonna have fun putting qt jars in and out of there lmao.

Can't you just lay the lid down, put the stuff on the lid, and then snap the tub on the lid?

I have my GB on a shelf that's 6 foot in the air. The reason I have it so high is because most contams are within the first 3 feet of your floor.
Same with my FC, it's 6 foot in the air.

I guess I could, but the side of the tub hangs off a little and im too sketched out to open because my fear of it falling xD

That's some good advice, I'll put mine like 4 feet in the air when I use my glovebox :P

Yeah and my closet is so perfect. When I get my grow tent its going to match up with the shelf perfectly, and take up the whole corner.
You would need to see a picture of it to get what I'm saying lmao. Ill take pics when I set up my grow tent, which should be any time now :).

I made an account to make this comment. I know this post is 8 years old, but in case anyone is reading this in 2018 like me, I want to say. . . You don't us a whole syringe worth of LC to inoculate a quart jar. Don't do that. I could go into exactly why, but if you are even capable of making an LC, you should know why. Just don't do it.
