Burned seedlings. HELP

Hey guys.

So i got 4 seedlings i dug out a cylinder hole in the potting soil(fertilized) and filled it up with lighter soil when i planted my seeds. Now they all showing burns at the tips, theyre also showing new leaf growth though.

Should i repot them in a smaller container with only light soil? Give them a big flush? Or should i just leave them be as theyre showing new growth? Help guys please!

Theyre about 5d old.

Transplant in soil free of fertilizers totally.

Thanks. I transplanted to smaller pots with only light soil+perlite instantly after i read your reply. I also misted the soil lightly with weak dose of DynaGro KLN. I hope my babies recover :'(
Remember - less is better sometimes. Growing pot is one of those times. Most indoor plants are killed by overwatering. Not just pot. People want to help too much. Overfertilization is the next cause of problems you see here and on other forums. If in doubt as to whether to feed or not - probably don't do it until you get the experience that tells you they are ready and can take it and how much to feed. Start your feeds at 1/4 the strength on the label instructions.

Agreed. Im very careful feeding since my last grow. I just thought they would be ready for the fertilized soil by the time the roots got to it.

Its my first time using KLN though, do you think it might help them in recovery? Thats what it says on the bottle atleast. I misted the soil with like 1/4 dose.

Avoid adding anything to them. The K-L-N rooting hormone is better for clones and transplanting. Your seedlings need only water for now. Maybe start a very light feeding in a week. Stop messing with them. You ever lose a girl when you were a kid, and you just wanted to fix the situation, and so you kept bothering her and calling her, but it just made things worse? You're doing that to your plants.

Anyhow, do you have a ph meter? If your ph is off that could cause the discolouration on the leaves. If you don't have a ph meter, get one. It is essential.

Thats the best parable I think Ive ever read.

Yes, I have a ph and ppm meter. Its about 130ppm from tap. I didnt bother checking the pH as i know all people here dont correct it and never have problems. Ill check it to make sure though.

Weird. I would guess they use a pH balancing system although not checking is still scary as shit.

pH is more important then.. .. I'd say anything. Its HOW and WHAT your plant takes in. It's an interesting read. Also make sure their not using a pH balancing nute system that they trust.
Which again, I stick my ph pen in my res more then I play ... You get it. My two cents. Hope they come back! bongsmilie If your pH isnt consistent, its such a helping hand in determining plant issues too..

phphphphphphphphphphph.

I'm going to go pH the crap out of my res.

Ok. Sooo, I checked the pH and it turned out to be a bit high after all. Perhaps to high for the seedlings. Strange though as I never heard anyone with pH problems around here.

Anyway, i have some aquarium pH-. It should work for watering soil to right? Could it cause a problem with biobizz nutes?

PH is more important with hydro. Not so much in soil. Most good quality soil buffers ph. I know plenty of soil growers that don't worry about it.

Actually, now I'm curious -- how big was the hole you had put the gentler soil in?
Hmm, perhaps a lil bit smaller than a partycup.

Anyway, im pretty sure it was to much light that caused the burn. I changed to a smaller led at a generous distance from the plants. All my fellow growers use the regular potting soil from seed with other stuffs added, bone, blood, ash etc etc, without any problems.

I live, and I learn. :D

Haha, and so do we onlookers :D
Actually it makes sense the hole would have had to have been 2x as large - think of how usually the roots are all wrapped up around the cup when they're ready for transplant - all those roots are bound to be growing all stretched out without the confines of the usual smaller pot...
OTOH, my (grown) plants keep getting slight "nute burn" symptoms even though I am not feeding them anything in a no-frills mix destined for no-till & that keeps getting mulched with this and that - probably just fluctuations of the soil balance, and of what becomes decomposed and available in it over time. Something I keep an eye on but have stopped worrying about too ;)

As for light burn, yeah there is that too :D
Cheers!

Howdy....I havent been on this site in a long time. I have years of growing experience. Im going to give you some advice that will help you for as long as you grow. I use the dixy beer cups to germinate all my seeds. I used to start them in happy frog soil but I started germinating my seeds in ocean forest because it took my seedlings a little further along and the growth is extremely strong. I use straight out of the tap well water...ph is N...right at 7. You can keep your seedlings in those cups for 15 to 25 days. In 15 days you will have a super strong seedling. Now here is the key. DO NOT FEED your seedlings ANYTHING. Ocean forest has everything your babies will need for weeks. That is the No1 mistake growers make. They get excited about feeding when it is absolutely unecessary. I transplant after about 20 days into one gallon pots ....again using straight Ocean Forest...not ammended in any way. Its not necessary at this stage. I will keep the plants in the same container, WITHOUT FEEDING THEM until preflowers show, which is about 6 to 8 weeks. Then I transplant into 5 gallon pots....and thats begins the plants life in its veg cycle at which point you can start thinking about feeding after a solid week the plant has been in its new container and when you feed, you do so very light....very light. get them to that stage and then we can talk some more. In the time being if you have questions or need help just PM me..

PS Ocean Forest doesnt even have a NPK ratio on its packaging. Not that i have seen anyway. But i have started ....Ummmmmm lets just say, a few in that soil FOR YEARS.

Thanks man, I appreciate you taking time for such a detailed reply.

However I just ordered BioBizz Light Mix along with their nutes.. Ill make sure to get the FFOF next time though! They dont have these products over here so I have to order overseas. :( If I could get it locally id get ffof too for sure!

Yeah I have to ask my gf to smack my fingers so i stop fiddling with them babies. Daddy behaviour stuck on me I guess.. :D

You know that as do alot of others.

But the majority using online help are newer and dont have the experience and trust in their mediums yet. Also theirs alot of diy and who the hell knows what else they put in. I remember when I started the crap I thought would work. lol.

Anyways. Just a safety its always good to check if your new to any variable in your system.

I would make a switch to hydro joke but I can see Im well out numbered in this thread. Ill back out silently. :peace:

Thats the different nutrient uptake availability in the pH range right? Cool thanks!
