Any and ALL ideas are welcome. I'm currently constructing a 2'x2'x4' closet grow. I'm using a 4" duct fan (80 cfm) for my air exhaust, and a 14" tower fan to circulate air within the closet. I have all 4 walls completely covered in black/white poly paper (85% reflective). My lighting is 18-40W CFL (6000K) totaling 47,700 Lumen.

Before I started my grow I wanted to test the room fully equipped with my hygrometer. The results: 102 F and 18% humidity!!!

Please if you have any SERIOUS suggestions feel free to give them.

Impatiently being patient...
Hey joe, uhhh yea, don't try to put 18 lights in a 2' by 2' by 4' closed space, there will too much heat produces in there. On the bright side, if you relative humidity is 18% at 102 degrees, drop the temps down into the high seventy's it will be around 50% rh.
What i would suggest you do is have maybe 4 lights, like maybe one in each corner or something and check temps, still a problem, increase air flow, what are you using to get fresh air into the box? No inflow no outflow, if it is passive it needs to be twice the size of the exhaust pipe. VV:blsmoke:

Well, you've made the same mistake I made when I first started using the 42w cfl's...in a small space like that, they get friggin hot. I only had 4 42 w cfl's in a 1x2x2 space and I needed a 6" duct fan (which sucks balls by the way) to keep things under 86. I would suggest spending a few bucks to get a real inline fan to cool that space. S&P series fans are great for small spaces (from $68/100cfm up) where you need a quiet fan that pushes some good airflow. I know this advice isn't beneficial to you at this point but unless you got those 40w cfl's for free, it would have been more economical to purchase a 250w mh setup that would generate less heat w/more intensity. I'm all about cfl's but those 42watters ran me about $10/each at the depot so if I were to duplicate your setup, I would have to spend about $180+tax....simple cost benefit analysis :) Anywho, get a good inline fan and all will be solid brother, cooling is the keybongsmilie

Just finished reading the book, SeeMoreBuds. Brilliant read, with an assload of bud porn pic in there. I plan on duplicating your setup as soon as I'm in a place where I can grow. 8 oz in two and a half months! Under $100! Ridiculous! You truly are the budmaster.

Well I use 642w CFL's 2700K in 2.5 sq ft and I can fit 36 plants in 20oz bottles at 16 per sq ft and I pull 7-10g dry per plant and I harvest 4 a week in a high density Sea of Green here's a link to what I have going and I'm sure you will agree I got my CFL's growing down... Not trying to highjack your thread Seemore just like showing people what you helped inspire me to do:joint:

If anyone is interested, I've located sources for large wattage CFL's for a reasonable price... I'm running 4K watts in a 11.5X5.75 room with 2 105cfm fans for exhaust and my temp is mid 80's. Now i do have the advantage that it's in my basement which stays nicely cool most of the year, actually I use it for heat in the winter. I know that my setup was pricey, but I figure that with our electric rate I've save 1.5 X the cost of the lights on my E bill, 'cause we pay more for electric here than ANY where, 'cept Hawaii at ..last bill.. 12.7 cents per unit...If I used HPS the cost would be...way damn too much!!!
oh yeah..thne cost per 125 2700K is 42.00 each, with a life of 10K hours or about 2.334 years...now if I'd just written down WHEN I started each bulb...drat those "senior moments" "sigh"

Now then, I'm going to scour the book store 'cause I WANT THAT BOOK!!!!!grr.. Unfortunately the area I live in can be way too PC..

Dear Garden Knowm,

The first thing I have to say is that your book is AWESOME! I hope this post does not make me look like a troll (or worse)!

The second is that you have the patience of a SAINT! I mean, answering Newb questions in a thread obviously (IMHO) meant for "discussion" on the book and possible sources for the book. I read every single post in this thread before posting this, so I really mean that!

Which leads me to my suggestion. This is the only reason I registered, I tend to just lurk at sites where where the behavior on the site is frowned upon by LEO (new term for me, I like it!). <G> I suggest you unsticky this thread and start a new sticky thread with a (politely worded) RTFM or something similar. IMHO (again), newbs posting without doing so deserve to be flamed, but I don't condone it. ;) That is what would happen at any other site.

It is obvious that you really care about this subject! I don't own a copy of your book and would like to purchase one from your site (so you get more of the money) but don't want to leave a footprint. Do you think it is possible to make up a printable order form for those who wish to use cash or M.O.

OOPS, that's two suggestions. <G>

In closing, this has to be the friendliest site I have ever seen! I've enjoyed how friendly everybody is, so I hope I don't start a flame war or something. But if other people want to ( I know you are too nice too), they should remember, I'm just a lurker!

I hope your book continues to sell well!

P.S. I found someplace that sells reflectors similar to the one pictured in the book so many people were asking about. I'ts for heat lamp applications, but it looks close to what is in the copy I have looked at. https://www.hardwareworld.com/Brooder-Lamp-WClamp-pN7NT7P.aspx
