im looking forward to this journal. as i am too very berry interested in jacks hydroponics. cheap best bang for the buck since your not paying for water. and they look very pretty at the moment. any reason why your not going dwc? im waiting for my girls to be done in soil before i start dwc. but need to get my meters. and jacks . good luck on your girls.

Syndakits, I'm doing hempy instead of dwc based on simplicity. I've never done a DWC and have seen journals showing amazing results, but I was worried about res. temps and the possibility of my air pump failing during the grow. I was planning on going DWC originally and purchased a giant bag of Viagrow expanded clay, bucket top net pots, and a big air pump. But, before I germinated the seeds, I read a lot of success stories about the Hempy grows and liked the simplicity of the system. I've also done a lot of successful vegetable gardening with EarthPots and this is similar enough that I feel a comfortable with it.

The Jacks is looking good so far, but it's pretty early in the grow and Chill-OM is supposed to be easy to grow. Cheers!

I had a problem with some of the lower fan leaves starting to brown and the plants had drooping leaves yesterday. The temps in the room where they're growing have been getting very low at night. The thermohygrometer showed a low of 61 the previous night. So, last night, I hooked up a small ceramic heater and blew it on the cabinet. I also increased the nute strength to full strength. They seem much happier today. Hopefully the leaf browning will go away.

Between the cold temps and the heater, the humidity dropped down to around 20 percent last night though.

Good to hear they picked up again..keep us informed.

Dayum! These bitches were root bound in their solo cups! There were roots trying to climb their way out the top and the bottom of the cups were a twisty mess of roots. I got some alone time today and prepared the 3 gal. perlite buckets and transplanted them tonight. When company leaves on Tuesday morning, I'll get the room setup for flower and let them go wild. They're probably shorter than they should be at this point due to the root bound condition and the close CFLs (about an inch from the leaves). But they are in pretty good shape considering their growing conditions.

One of the phenos is starting to smell fantastic! It's the tallest and most vigorous one. It's aroma's like a really sweet grapefruit or pink lemonade. I'm going to take a couple of clones of that one before 12/12. Fingers crossed that it ends up female.

I got a bit tied up and haven't setup the grow room yet. The remaining 4 plants seem to be responding well to the transplant though and doing pretty good under their limited 6 CFL lights. I'm in the process of making up a carbon filter and adapting a Stanley/Lasko blower to filter the room and cool the HPS tube. I'm going to need to buy more activated charcoal. The filter looks like it will take a couple of jars since the 9oz jar I purchased only filled a little less than half of what was needed.

The larger Hempy buckets are nice and I like not having to feed them every day. Still on the Jacks Hydro regimen. 1/2tsp each per gallon.

It looks like crap, but it works great. It's a Stanley/Lasko blower and a home made carbon filter using two bucket 6" net tops, some wire, screen material, polyester batting material, and 2 bungee cords. The filter and blower are attached together using 6" starter collars taped to both ends and 6" ducting.



It's quite the awesome little air cleaner. Hopefully it does well against the stronger aroma in flower.

36 days since the start of this grow.

One the seedlings grew too tall today and ended up in the middle of the cfls. It was time to move them. I got the ducts laid out and attached to the Stanley blower. It's ducting through the cool tube and into the attic which seems to be keeping the room temps right around 75. They are now officially under the 600w HPS. 12/12 starts tomorrow morning.

I decided not to take any clones from these at the last minute. I still have 5 seeds left if I like it enough to grow it again.

This means that tomorrow will also be the start of my next grow. I'm planning on germinating one Female Seeds c99, growing it out and taking four clones from it so that they will be ready for flower when the Chill-OMs finish. According to Mandala that will be in 65-72 days. The purpose of that is to get some experience in creating a Bonsai mother plant and cloning.

It's time to vape out on this "Blue Ribbon" strain that I picked up at the dispensary the other day.

Hey Yankee, they're looking pretty happy right now. I think they're relieved to be out from under the CFLs. I've got the light higher than it should be, but I don't want to shock them too much with the changing environment. I'll lower it down to the correct height over the next couple of days.

Awesome! Just transplanted my Beyond the Brains and Hashberrys from their germ cups this morning. My chill are coming along - very leggy in the first week of veg! Got to update my journals.

Going to be interesting watching. I just switched to hempys and am thinking about the jacks as
i dont like the huge amount of shit that settles on the bottom with GH dry nutes. Have you caculated the npk ratio with the calcium nitrate added?

You know, I really haven't done any calculating with the Jacks. I know you can adjust it easily, but I'm a lazy ass in general and I'm a big fan of the K.I.S.S. principle so I'm trying the 1/2tsp each. I read a bunch of stuff on Jacks over on ICMag where they went into depth about it before the grow, but I don't remember much off the top ofmy head. I read more than a couple reports of people just using the 1/2tsp each through the entire grow though and figured I'd try it and adjust if necessary. So far the plants are loving it so I haven't had to adjust. I haven't had any nute related problems yet (knock on wood). It doesn't get any simpler and it's super cheap.

All I do right now is a two part. I'm currently using a gallon of RO and a gallon of well water in two separate containers. I mix 1tsp of hydro in one container and 1tsp of cal nit in the other. Then I combine equal parts of the mixed solutions into the watering can before feeding which makes it 1/2tsp each per gallon. When I started, I was using straight RO, but I'd read on Mandala's website where he recommended 1 RO and 1 tap water for mixing nutes on something so I've been trying it. So far so good.

They are starting to show their sex. I have one confirmed female. There is one that I'm pretty sure is male - looks like a couple of nuts, but I'll give it a couple more days to show out. There's another one that looks like it's going to be female, but again, I want to give it a few more days before I'm sure. The other one I can see no signs of sexing yet.

Everything is very small at this point so I'm having to use my magnifying glass to see closely. I'm psyched though. The confirmed female is the best looking of the bunch and the one that smells like sweet citrus!
