My bad. I did say in the opening 3 x 3. Then later clarified to perhaps to 2 x 3. Its underneath a set of stairs.

Some of the buds will have to be kept at 4 feet or so.

The lamp itself yes, but the overall heat is the same, assuming like wattages. Unless you plan to drop the lamp on the floor and let it burn, I don't see an issue of concern for fire. I use both LED and CMH myself.

Im just super paranoid. Appreciate the feedback tho. First time doing indoor in a shared building etc. I feel like LED run cooler = lower chance of fire.

LED = more electrical components and connections = higher chance of failure = higher chance of fire?

Personally I think either can fail and potentially cause fire, but your chance is low. Look into auto fire extinguishers, if you're para..

Also, just as a reality check the LED will put out the same overall heat as a HID lamp (assuming equal wattage), due to laws of physics. 1 watt = 3.41 btu's. The heat will only be disbursed differently. Depending on your grow environment, your plants may thrive better with one type of light over the other. Generally speaking, you will want a warmer environment with LED fixtures compared to HID lamps.

Whatever light you choose, make sure it has a dimmer. I have 5' height restriction in my closet grow and can't run my LED bar at full power without scorching plants.

I just bought an HLG light and there is 25% coupon somewhere (brenda25) (used capital one shopping to find code)

Buying the kits is cheaper because of packaging and it doesn't need to be UL certified as a complete fixture

I must add, I've had the best customer service from HLG and the fixture I just bought was shipped the same day and I got it really fast! HLG holds a solid reputation.

Setting up the DIY kit is a piece of cake. Grab some pot dimmers too for 5$ a piece too and make sure u get the appropriate one for the driver. Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with COBs but don't let anyone tell you they make better product than boards.
They are the same spectrums .
So there's no need to complicate things by adding a Cob for the sake of it.

Agelex are a cheap light, not amazing, but you do get a lot of light for your dollar.

Hlg, aussie grow lights, timber, all good, lots of cheaper versions are good too.

Or a 315cmh would be good to.

The bottom line is for a 3x3 you want 300-350w.

Aglex Boards are cheap as dirt on marketplace.
Because they SUCK.

About as cheap as you can find a board to cover...if you are on a real tight budget get a 315 CMH.... its almost perfect for a 3 x 3.

I use a board light i made with 2 X QB120s from Growlights for my 32 x 32 x 62 tent. And sometimes a Timber 2 VL.
