Auto Flower CFL Closet Grow: Purple Jems & Flower Power

Here we go again RIU! This time I'll be growing 2 regular seeds & 1 female seed. The strains I picked are Lowryder Purple Jems & Barney Farm Flower Power, the PJ's are regular seeds & the FP is a female. If I do end up with a male PJ I will be placing it outside to produce pollen for later use. I've heard that PJ's take awhile to show sex, does anyone have an idea about how long it will take to show sex? I am wondering if my time frame is too late to pollinate the Flower Power female I am growing. Both strains were recently germed exactly 48 hours ago using the shot glass method. If I do have a male I want to pollen my flower power & try to breed some "purple flower power". My two PJ's did not crack in the 24 hours of soaking so I let them soak another 6 hours. Still no luck with them cracking but my FP did crack & one of my PJ's barely cracked so I decided to place them into jeffy pellets. I checked on them after I got home from work & my FP & one of my PJ's sprouted in just 36 hours! I'm still waiting for my last PJ to show itself, I'm hoping it sprouts soon.

I welcome all members of RiU that grow auto flowers, if you are interested in these two strains or may be currently growing some yourself please subscribe. I am a bit new to autoflowers so I guess you could call me a auto NewB, I do have another auto grow going that is 3 1/2 weeks ahead of these babies. If you are interested in that grow my link is in my sig, they are from sweet seeds.

Anyway I'll do a update when I get some pictures together so check back later for updates, I plan to bomb you all with pictures this grow because I'm VERY excited about growing some PURP!

Whats that smell on your shirt? IT'S THAT PURP!

Here are a few pictures taken a few minutes ago of day one autos, nothing special at the moment but I just thought I would throw them up here. Keep checking back for updates, I plan to be taking pictures every day for the entire grow.

Picture 1: This is a picture of my first purple jem seed casing that pushed its way up to the top of the peat pellet.

Picture 2: Picture of my purple jem from a side view.

Picture 3: My Flower Power female sprout.

Picture 4: Nothing fancy, jeffy dome with a power strip taped to the closet racks & a 5000k day light bulb.

Picture 5: Here is a upper view of my only PJ to sprout so far, still on day one so i'm trying to patient.

Picture 6: Upper view of my FP.

I currently have 2 purple jems growing ......bout halfway through their lifespan and looking very healthy. Both are supporting a bunch of budsites along their 14" height and are on track to be a good looking plant......growing in MG Organic...no nutes yet....just a little molasses..... I find myself anxious to see some blue start showing.
I recently collected some pollen from a lowryder 2 and a male PJ that I'm using to poll a couple of sites to get some seeds ........

Glad to see someone post here with PJ experience, thanks for stopping by. So you are about a month into your grow, when exactly did you PJ's start showing sex? I've heard alot of people complaining about them taking awhile. I'm curious to know because I wanted to try and produce some pollen for this auto grow. How long ddid it take you to collect pollen from your male PJ, also when is the earliest time it will give off pollen?

I have my seedlings sitting in jeffy pellets for the moment bit I plan to put them into 3 gallon pots with som FF Ocean Forest & FF Light Warrior. As for nutes I probably won't start muting till about week 3 or so, I need to pick me up some molasses to try. Do you have a journal for that auto grow you were talking about above, I wouldn't mind checking it out.

SimplyBaked, thanks for stopping by man! I picked up my purple jems because they are fast, low aroma, crown royal purple, & only a foot tall! My question to you is why wait, these seeds are perfect! As for the trainwreck, I've smoked several different crossses of it but never purple. Sounds delicious though, where did you pick those seeds up from and are they autos?

There isn't much to report just yet, I am still waiting on my other PJ to sprout. No luck just yet, hopefully it will sprout vert soon. As for my other autos they are still sitting inside of my Jiffy dome, my purple jem is already popping a root out of the pellet. The both are already about to hit the top of my dome, I will be taking them out very soon and placing them into 3 gallon pots. I'll keep my PJ that did not sprout in the dome to it shows it's head, hopefully soon. I am going to take pictures of them on Tuesday, they will make a week old. They are already starting to develope the top leaf. Check back in a few days for more pictures, nothig much to see just yet though.

I just jumped over from your other grow and was suprised to see your grow looking like mine.I finally got the White Dwarf seeds soaking last week and they are right on track with yours. My seedlings are real short-only about an inch tall so far but I have the second sets of leaves allready. This will be a great comparison for me.Thanks and best of luck.

Where did you find Blue Himalaya and hows the buzz?
http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/short-stuff-seeds-russian-rocket-fuel-feminized/prod_1372.html

Attitude has it back in stock now, they also have Blue Himalaya Diesel.

So this grow is on 7 days today and still no sign of my last PJ sprouting up, what a shame. I'm starting to get a bit inpatient, I'm going to let it go another 4 or 5 days & then I'm going to digg it up and see WTF is going on. Has anyone ever dug a seed up and tried to replant it, if so did it work? I might dig it back up and soak it in a shot glass & let it crack this time. As for the other 2 sprouts, they are jaut about touching the top of my dome. I'll take week one pictures tonight when I get off of work, I plan to put them into 3 gallon pits very soon with FF Ocean Forest & a little bit of Light Warrior mixed in.

I have some purple jems growing myself. 4 ladies, day 31, budding beautifuly and just starting to change colour. The height isnt what ive had on other grows, my best girl tops out at 8 inches but i dont care about how tall they get, i just care about how much bud they produce and so far im happy with what theyre doing.

I planted 8 seeds, all germinated within a few days, one never got bigger then an inch and died after about 2 weeks, 3 turned male around days 14-19 and my ladies showed themselves around the same time.

Ive given them 2 nute feedings so far and theyre loving it. I'll get some pics up to show you when i get a chance.

I have had 2 Flower Power plants die on me, one I think something bit it, the other came up, and then just wilted. I have one survivor, it looks healthy but is only 2 days old, hopefully it makes it. Goof luck with your grow.

Sorry to hear about your two FP's, hopefully mine will do alright considering it was a free auto seed from the Attitude UFO. Both my FP & my PJ have just about touched the top of the dome, I'm going to transplant them in a few minutes into my 3gal pots. My FP hasn't shown roots threw the peat pellets but my PJ did, ascot my other PJ I'm not sure this was a good seed. It has been in the ground fir more then 10 days now and still no signs of life. I'll probably give it another day or 2 to sprout, if it doesn't in digging the seed up and try to germ again. I took pictures the other night but I think I'll take more once transplanted. I'll post them up probably tomorrow, my FP is starting to turn a bit yellow but looks healthy for most part, hopefully everything goes well.

I just posted some pics of my flower power at day six. Its doing well, I am pretty sure this plant is going to do well. I dont know what was up with the other plant I started with this one. You should post some pics of your flower power and purple jems.

Project FAIL!

I haven't been updating lately because these autos were growing very slow, they both just leaned over & touched the ground the other day so I decided to brace them up using two toothpicks. Came back today to check on them and now they are leaning over the toothpicks touching the ground. I'm starting to get very frustrated with these auto closet grows, something is apparently wrong. I have wasted 6 auto flower seeds in the last month or so, in fact I have only gotten 3 out of 9 auto flowers to survive inside of the closet. I really would like to find out why exactly this is happening to me, I'll explain exactly how my closet is setup. Help me go threw a process of illumination, as stated before I'm working on a grow box project at the moment but it still isn't complete. Hopefully once complete this will help the grow out better then what it is doing right now.

My closet is pretty much basically a closet with a electrical cord running into it, I have a board that I tied up to the rack using hemp rope. The electrical cord is plugged up to a dual timer and the timer has a power strip & a clip fan is plugged straight to the power cord to run 24/7. As for the fans this is all I am running is this one clip fan, I've shown pictures of it but I'll show it again.

nbt8pu.jpg 2znpbgx.jpg
Picture 1: Clip fan that I use in closet.
Picture 2: My setup for germination, 3 gallon pots down low.

I have my closet doors closed for most of the day because I have my GrowLab is running 12/12 & I don't want any light shining into the tents vent flaps. I open the doors for roughly around 6 hours a day to let some heat out & let fresh air in. I have no ventilation inside the closet other then the clip fan shown above, I'm pretty sure this is one of my issues I'm having with my auto grows. Once my box is complete I'm going to ventilate it very well with intakes & exhaust, I plan to use a 6 inch inline booster fan for the exhaust. For the intake I plan to use big computer fans & possibly a box fan at the very bottom that will blow fresh air onto the plants from outside of the box.

As for the plants I used shot glass method followed by peat pellets in a Jiffy dome to start them off, two of them did fine & one never sprouted. I kept them inside the dome for roughly 10 days, I pretty much gave up on the one that never sprouted that day. I watered them with a spray bottle filled with store bought water just about every day, sometimes I skipped a day. I took the 2 sprouts out & transplanted them into 3 gal pots using Ocean Forest & Light Warrior. I sprayed these a little bit more then I was just in peat pellet, everything seemed to be fine until yesterday. That is basically all I have done with them, they are 14 days old & honestly haven't grown a bit in about 4-5 days. They just started falling over yesterday, I guess they are giving up. I was thinking maybe they aren't getting enough air to breathe with the door being closed most of the day. What do you guys think, any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated? Until I figure out what's going on my auto grows are off except for my 3 survivors, here are a few pictures below that I have taken over the past few days of this grow. If there is anything that I may have forgot to mention or any questions you might have please help!

Day 7 Pictures: Everything seemed to be doing well this day.

Top pictures is wide view of dome tray, bottom left is PJ, bottom right is FP.

Day 10 Pictures: The day I took 2 sprouts out of the dome & placed into 3 gallon pots.

Purple Jem on left /\ Flower Power on right.

Top wide pictures is basic setup, middle 2 pictures are PJ, bottom 2 are FP. Everything still seemed to be doing well, until the next day. I had a root pop out of the FP peat pellet but not the flower power when I transplanted.

Day 12 Pictures: DAMNIT!

Hmm, looks like alot of stretchin. None of my seedlings got that tall, maybe this is your problem. Move your lights a little closer? Especially if you can still control the temps and such that way...just my advice. I had cfl during seedling stage and only kept the like 4 or 5 in away.

Definitely move the lights closer. Once my seedlings have been out of the soil for a day, I go from 2 CFLs 1 foot away, to 8+ CFLs 3-6 inches away. At 12 days out of the soil my bagseed indica/sativas have only gone vertical 2 inches. Also, leave room in your bucket when first sprouting seeds, so only fill the bucket half way with soil. If the plants stretch 4 inches in 2 weeks, put 2 more inches of soil into your bucket. :)

BTW, what were the temps in your closet when your little ones drooped over?

I have had this problem but not with auto flowern seeds, if their already that tall in the pellet bury the whole stalk up to leaves, works 4 me
