Hello all i have contemplated starting a grow and had some questions that perhaps my fellow countrymen could answer:

1. Getting Seeds: do you guys order them from websites, get them from friends etc... If you go website how exactly do you get them from there to you, i would not be comfortable ordering seeds to my house or anywhere i can be linked to i e P.O. box.
2. Space: I was thinkin about maybe 4-6 plants, grown in soil under lights. I will have Approx .75m x 2 m space, how much space in cm x cm do you need per plant?
3. Yield: With above setup how much bud would you get from a harvest (ball park i know there can be major variance)
4. Lights: Ive read some good things on led lights when considering my needs, i dont want big power bills, handling excess heat etc... does anyone know how less effective they are from HPS/MH etc.. i was thinking of these: http://www.lightearthdesign.com/BuyNow.html would the 2 lights be enough?
5. Smell: Do you know if odour would be an issue with this amount of plants? they will be in some sorta tent or cupboard with exhaust fan

Yeah it's been busy
spent like 10 hrs cutting in the last week
but the worst part is the different strains wanna diff ppm and ph and not to mention the height difference
that why I got six doublegums ready to rock
it will be much easier

Hey MrU T. I am not experienced like some on here but will try to answer the best i can. On seeds you either take the plunge or try with bagseed. This is a good option as if its your first grow you arent wasting good seeds if you kill them. The space question i dont know about so maybe others can help. Question 3.. i read a very intelligent thing on this site a while back which said dont worry about yield on your first grow. How true that is. Just try and get a plant to grow and flower and i am sure you will be happy. 4, If you are not sure about LED's look at a members grow called stelthy, he has an amazing grow using them but like CFLs they will never be as good as HID lights. 5, yes 4-6 plants will smell regardless if they are flowering or not. I had 2 in a cupboard and they stunk ages ago. Anyway welcome and good luck. If what i have said is wrong someone please correct me.

Ok dokies.
1. Bagseed or online.
(a)Bagseed pro: Low cost
(b) Bagseed cons: Unknown strains & Hermie increase.
(a) Online seeds pro: Choice of strains (Your tastes)
(b) Online seeds cons: Potential blip on the radar & cost of seeds. I don't order on-line but a m8 has offered to accept any seed mail. yay. He doesn't smoke or grow and I'm tempted to buy some online. Give fake name is all I intend to do to cover my tracks.

2. Space: I do an indoor "closet grow". Roughly 1.5m by 1.5m. And roughly 2.5m high. (High ceilings). Inside are two exhaust fans: One extracting air(high), the other pulling in air(low). I grow 6 plants per batch. Veg until roughly 60cm tall. Each plant grows abit differently. Make sure you have plenty room "above" to adjust your light. I use chains but I'm installing a small hand-winch next grow. Heat stress can really affect you babies. Plus I top my plants a week into flowering which limits their height.

3. Yield: Depends really. How long you veg for. Pot size. System used. Strains. etc. I usually get 2 to 3oz per plants since going indoor. This batch maybe more.

4. Lights. I use a 600HPS for flowering and combination of flouro lights for veg/seedling. White flouro for seedling/clones and combo white/purple for veg growth. Cost me about $400 a quarter to operate. White flouro 18/6 cycle and HPS 12/12 cycle.

Note: You will need a HPS for flowering. Can't really avoid it m8. Need the light spectrum for budding. Some peeps are trialing LCD systems....but I would expect that from either the advanced growers or those seeking adventure.hehe. to try.


5. Smell. Best thing to get is active charcoal filter. Its barrel-shaped and you hang it on a chain from the ceiling attached to your extraction fan. ie draw air through the filter. The last about 3 years; again depends how often you grow regarding replacement. I get mine from Aussieponics via the mail.

Odour is perhaps the biggest issue regarding nosy neighbours and paranoia. Come week 6 to week 9 of flowering you place will reek of ganja.....and I mean reek. And scented candles only go so far.

Where I am atm.?

I'm at week 7/9 with 3 indica. bagseed strains.
Also at week7/11 for 3 sativa. Again bagseed strains.

Have 6 clones on the go. Come the 11th they will be 2 weeks alive and kicking.

And finally have 3 mothers being happy little campers; generating future miss clones.

I'm in the process of putting together some pics of the setup. Its nothing really spectacular like some of the other lads and ladies have got. I was going to wait until this grow is over because I hate the shitty yellow light from the HPS bulb. It really affects the pics IMO. lol. And I've been to lazy to re-charge the better camera (it has white balance which negates the HPS lighting effect).

Hey all a very quick question. Can i use nutes designed for hydroponics even though i am hand watering? Like dutchmaster? or Canna? I dont really want to spend more than $40 or so for some flowering nutes.

Nutes are nutes and plants are plants. Plants take up what nutes they need irrespective of its delivery method. ie worm casting, hydro canna A + B.

All hydro solutions differ from other fertiliser is that "it" has been designed optimal for the water used in the design mix. ie Not local water. Given that water differs from suburb to suburb it all become an academic exercise determining which nute brand to use.

But as a suggestion try halving the recommended dose if using a soil medium. Doubles the value and distance of your nutes.


On a little note about water. The most neutral water you can "purchase" is the stuff you use in car batteries etc. Its had everything stripped out.

Quick dried 2 buds; 1 Sativa & 1 Indica. Just rolled a doobie and had the indica. 1 pic.


Intend to roll another in a moment and try the Sativa out. Mmm got goosebumps from the first joint...legs and head all tingley. Very celibrual feeling. hehe running commentary atm.

2 to 3 mins later. Heads feeling light.... its very relaxing kind of smoke.

Had the Sativa doobie...half an hour later I feel baked. Heads buzzing. Eyes feeling very heavy. Nice...very nice indeedly.

hydro nutes and soil nutes can be used visa versa.. but i dont recomend it, most soil nutes contain things that need to be broken down in the soil, and they cant in hydro, and as youd guess, the hydro nutes dont contain anything that will help "condition" your soil... so yes they will work, but using hydro nutes on soil will give no big benifit(like my teenage mates once thought)
