not a fun job sometimes
i dont particularly agree with how some people have chosen to talk to me.
its hard to let it go sometimes... especially the comments made about my unborn child.
Whoa, yeah that's not cool. We're still in the early days of people learning how to get along via electronic media, social mores aren't very well set yet. That's absolutely no excuse to denigrate people personally.

Sounds like they're stuck in a sad life. No respect at all for that behavior.

well, if you aren't in a "smog" state you could do nothing, but it sorta isn't the wisest..
Car problems are like dental/health/IRS issues..
They get only more expensive and more painful as time goes..
Also with the light burned out you won't know if you have other issues going on.
Annnd furthermore if they are indeed o2 sensors you want to replace those before they burn out your catalysts (four of them $$$) so if your o2s aren't working they will cause your car to run failsafe... which means RICH... which means catalyst increased temps..
you should do your fuel filter every 20k
Can burn out the fuel pump if it gets clogged.
Also if your oil cap has greenish whitish froth on the underside of it, that's where the coolant is going.
OR it could be getting consumed, and damaging your o2 sensors.
ethylene glycol is bad for o2 sensors
Catalytic converter screwed too dude. I hear the little explosions going off down there. Yeah it's running rich no doubt. Yeah no it's not a head gasket. The oil looks fine. I'm pretty sure I've run it months on end dry. It's losing a little power this year. I don't smoke them anymore but, it's still pretty impressive for a 6 cylinder 4.0. I'm pretty sure the check engine light burnt out. lol. Problem solved. I don't even think about it anymore til you posted about the smog thing. She just keeps on going. It's a 96 with 190k on the odo. I bought it new. I'm the only one that's done maintenance. No mech has ever or will ever touch this thing. It's an old beater. I'll just keep on spinning the wheels as long as she keeps rolling. I'll be real proud if I get 200k.

Thanks for your time tho. :bigjoint:

Edit. Oh yeah. You need a tool to change the fuel filter. Effing basterds. And I lost the one I paid a solid $4 for last time I changed it when it was much newer. I refuse to buy another tool out of principle.

hmmmmm well then...
I know very little about the teslas, except that they can be hacked evidently..
And that some explode when crashed
Time for you to bone up, then.

They'll burn if you work at it, but they aren't explosive. Driving YOUR car with a mostly empty tank is much more likely to be a bomb; you're just used to this risk because you've been around it your whole life.

I'll go a million miles in a Tesla before I'd buy a new car with an engine in it.

Re Hacked cars; the Jeep Grand Cherokee and new Cadillac are both very vulnerable to Bluetooth hacks. I'll bet Mr Musk's team is making much more headway on a fix than the other two. Wanna take that bet?

sorry I was being flippant, I know them, just prefer to look the other way.
Sorta the way I feel with hybrids as well.
And new cars?
SUCK.
manufacturers have realized that a well built reliable, long lasting car ISNT good for their repeat business.
I will not work on any teslas, hybrids, or electric cars.
I refuse to work on cars that are way closer to laptops than an automobile.
I don't do computers.
the amount of proprietary software you need access to is ridiculous, being charged a monthly fee to even look at the wiring diagrams, etc.
No thanks.
Same with a lot of europeon cars.
The "happy-spot" for cars was late 90s and early 2000s.
after that?
well...

My problem is that I remember the GOOD euro cars from the '60s and '70s. The chunky bank vault feel to the doors, the solid road feel. Now they're just more tinfoil wrapped plastic, like they took cost cutting lessons from late nineties Buicks or something.

My dad T boned a car at thirty miles per hour in his '65 230SE. He drove away from the accident with a bent bumper, grille and hood. The other car got towed and crushed.

Let me repeat: he DROVE AWAY (after the accident report, of course) from a thirty mph crash.

I don't know of anything made these days that can do that, at any price.

i have to agree..

more talkin...

in like july
i skipped off (almost head on collision) a new dodge diesel in my late 80's chevy. each of us going 65... i was messed up and veered into oncoming..
anyway, he was gone like wheel was in the hood and side destroyed.
i bounced around, didnt feel a thing but my window exploded in my face. only thing wrong with my truck was cosmetic..he ripped my morror off, like the metal on the door and all.
prett crazy. i then drove 30 miles home

i know such an awesome story

Now that I know you drive while fucked up, the only thing I'll feel safe riding in Texas will be an armored car. Since I have no plans to visit Texas, I'm not scouring rental car lots just yet, lol
