im bringing this thread back !
11 weeks into flowering a mostly sativa plant now, and im finding the chart to be accurate. i only see little signs of amber trichs.
also i think its harder to tell by eye when they are "done" when all of your leaves are yellow/crisp

I have been holding my tongue on RIU for fear of looking like an asshat when it comes to harvesting. I have completely stopped looking at the threads where people asked if their girls were ready for harvest because of the overwhelming amount of people who consistently say that the buds are "looking ready" or "almost there" when they just weren't. Oh well, to all those who have smoked a fully mature bud....you know whats up. And to all those who are new to growing and just want some weed now; you waited this long guys...let your girls grow some before you chop em down. Talk to your local dealer and get yourself a zone to tide you over if you must....it was probably harvested early too and will smoke just like yours.

you are absolutely spot on.
It's rare that I harvest a plant before 13 weeks budding, even though they say ready in 8 weeks.
I don't bother much with the trics, I do look at them, but I harvest when they look ready + 1 week.

Im in week 10 now (said 8 weeks) and i think it'll be another 2 or 3! Getting a bit itchy to harvest but its cool i can wait!

My trichs were at about 40% amber when I harvested two plants of unknown genetics at week 12 of flower. I was growing under 2700k CFL's.

The smoke, now dried and curing, produces an extreme couchlock that sends tingles down the backs of my legs and "sits" on my forehead hardcore.

I agree that trichs cannot be the only judge. But I also think they have relevancy. I have a scientific scope with a 4x, 10x, and 40x zoom. It has a 1/2 sqaure inch viewing window, so I can see ALOT of trichs at one time. At no time in my grow, and I checked all the time, did I have a large AMOUNT of amber trichs except at the end.

While its true that there were amber, cloudy, and clear all over throughout the grow, they did in fact turn so that there were very few clear (perhaps 10%), with the rest being an equal mix of cloudy/amber at the end.

I observed a noticable shift from weeks 8-12 for sure, watching clear trichs turn cloudy and or amber. I read this thread long ago and kept my mouth shut because I didnt have much to offer. However, I can say that the trichs said harvest week 11, but I waited a week longer and they did "look done."

Would I have thought they "looked done" sooner without the scope? Or later? I can't really be sure. So my conclusion is that while trichs are not a DEFINATE science, IMO, they both serve as an excellent guide and emperical data to confirm that they "are done."

your buds DO NOT go "bad"(????) if you wait to long. i know how long is too long and it's way longer than anything i've ever seen posted here. all that happens is you get a "stonier" high. you do want to get "stoned" don't you?

there is such a thing as over ripened buds if your in the midwest like me . 2005 i waited a week to long before the cold weather set in it off sets the high i got from that. its still a good high butit doesnt last like it should

I watched show on medical marijuana and they were talking to some scientists from somewhere in Europe and they said the CBN and the other chemicals that came in the last stages of growth helped the most with pain, hunger, nausea, and diarrhea . I can understand pulling a plant early if your outside and its going to mold or freeze or something but I agree with fdd on this its really hard to wait to long. It will just go thru spurts where it looks like its finished for a day or 2 and then you'll see a bunch of new buds pop up. Newbies never wait long enough , they are usually to lazy to do things right in the first place and then way to eager to reap the awards. But I will say that almost everyone makes this mistake in the beginning and longer they grow the longer they wait to harvast.

this thread has many interesting points, i wish there was a definitive answer on when to harvest.the u.s government needs to fund marijuana research!

Amen! Im with ya on that one. When to harvest comes with more time growing and learning the particular strain your growing.My 1st time the 1st plant was harvested a lil 2 early,but was an up/high.the 2nd plant yeilded way more, and was way more potent and couchy.So it kinda depends what you want,but they will fatten up a lot mor@ the very end like fdd said.they have a different look when there done. Like this

as i lay here withspliff in mouth, i almost cry for the afgoo we just harvested at 8 weeks, but smile for the many other plants we didn't touch.

this thread is what i needed to save our plants, even though we did kill one. that's ok, this will be the smoke for the next 2-3 weeks longer!!

totality of the circumstances?

taking in all factors to make a decision.

this is what the look is i'm sure. when everything, not just the trichs, are saying "do me now'

the best ive ever burned was OUTDOOR and it didnt get chopped until november up here in canada. must have went through a couple frosts because the plants were in pretty rough shape.

that shit was caked in crystals, every single hair was orange/brown, and there was zero mold.

far too often people are in a hurry and chop way too early.

i took a bud off an auto flowering strain to try and save traits well it did root but stayed in a state of perpetual flowering 24 hr light .this year i tried to pollinate no luck looked at trikes they were all amber the smoke was almost narcotic

I remember some shit called Apple Jack....soooo sticky you had to peel the joint off of your finger. I drool like Homer Simpson thinking of it.

i have 10 lowryder bluerider that i am germinating now. I am going to try this out -- harvest soem per the breeders pack recomendation, some per the amber faq on here and let soem of the others go to the end.

What i really want is 9 females to 1 male (wish me luck lol).

I've grown 5 crops of Lowryders now and I let them go for 3 months, not 6 or 8 weeks as they say.
Make a huge difference.
