Is there any correlation to when a plants starts actively pumping out resin compared to when it will be "ready?"

I am on day 35-ish of flower and just now starting to see real resin production. The buds are almost as tall as a lighter and fatter. My first crop didnt see resin production really accumulate until week 7 or 8 of 12/12 (cfl grow).

I assume this would vary from strain to strain, even IF it exists. Have you ever noticed a pattern?

What is the relationship between the amount of early trichome production and where the buds finish when ripened fully? I know I am fishing a bit here, but I am curious to hear your response.
FDD, just wanted to give this query a bump. Have an opinion?

it all varies. :peace::joint::joint:
man FDD you are an amazingknowledge bank...

another amazingly informative thread that helps a noob getting ready for their first harvest..

i had 12 plants growing till 2 days ago when i harvested a Church plant at 52 days flowering. i didn't harvest because i couldn't wait, i harvested bc this plant is the only one in my garden that has powdery mildew and its is very little and only on a few leaves. however i wasn't chancing anything so i chopped her.

anyway i will be sure to let the others all go for at least another couple weeks and i have noticed they are starting to really look "ready".

thanks again for the info guys :joint:

hahahahahah it does hahahah I done that, but stoped doing it as I dont like the idea of smoking my piss!
urine is amonia is nitrogen. pick up a book some time.
My current science project plant is 5 inches tall and three feet around with so many bud sites that I would need an accountant to keep them numbers and it is just a baby. I make my own fertilizer.
do not use piss if it is heavy in salts.
try a 5:1 or 10:1 water to piss ratio. throw in a tad of vinegar and coffee grounds and fish emulsion and a tad of Epsom salt and they will break down at different rates of decomposition while adding various nutrients in a time control manner.
You may wish to consider store bought nuts for your budding phase, or have your shit together like me.
here is an example of my organic work:
Nitrogen

* 2 parts blood meal
* 3 parts fish meal

Phosporous

* 3 parts bone meal
* 6 parts rock phosphate or colloidal phosphate

Potassium

* 1 part kelp meal
* 6 parts greensand

or more examples out of context

More Organic Fertilizer Mixes

2 - 3.5 - 2.5

* 1 part bone meal
* 3 parts alfalfa hay
* 2 parts greensand

2 - 4 - 2

* 4 parts coffee grounds
* 1 part bone meal
* 1 part wood ashes

okay i googled and found this thread and man... I been hearing so much lately about overripe and well thanks for this because i i wanted to feel like "this plant is done." But didn't want to go over 11 weeks. F'it i let it go till it looks done to me...I am new but in no rush... still a ton of white hairs and i don't have a scope but now i am 110% sure you can know with out one. They did it 100 years ago with it..why can't i do it now......crapshootmybutt,lol

After my first harvest I realised I didn't cut any clones so started to re-veg em. There were a couple small buds that just weren't ready so I left em on just to see what would happen, there was no real couch lock or headache just kinda seemed the quality of the high was gone. I will not be doing that again. It might have just been because they were so immature when I set em back to 24/0. I don't know if that's helpful at all just thought is throw it out there.

hey there everyone. i know this thread is a really old thread.
i need to point out, that ive been looking through the internet like crazy for info on this topic, because everyone nowadays seems to be saying to harvest with cloudy/clear triches to get cerabral.
it just didnt make sense to me, because we look so hard to find the right genetics, in order to get the type of high we want, why start playing around with harvest time in order to control the high. isnt that the whole reason we buy the genetics that we buy, in order to grow the bud its full potenetial and the get the correct high.
well reading all this really helped me out.

as far as the topic of just knowing by looking at the bud, when its ready, it would really help if some folks could post a picture one next to the other comparing a bud that "LOOKS RIPE" with a bud thats close to ripe, but doesnt look ready. that would help us newbs to understand this concept...

To understand it correctly, you have to look beyond what it is you see with the naked eye. While its true that a plant ready to harvest will take on a certain finished look, your true indicator will always be the trichs viewed with a scope.

im using a 60x loupe.
and i see the triches well.my main question is, that theres two main different opinions regarding when the triches are considered at the full potential
theres group 1: which are saying its best to harvest at 75% amber. and the plant is at its fullest potential
groupe 2: seem to be saying that harvest at 50/50 cloudy/clear, and a little bit of amber, in order to get max potential. and any more amber than that causes body high, and tiredness etc.

group 1 claim that full potential is acheived at 75% amber, and the high will be according to ur genetics. whatever the genetics are, at 75% they will be the most pronounced. so if its a focused cerebral sativa, at 75% itll be the most focused and awake possible.

group 2 say that in order to get focused/awake high, to harvest at 50/50 cloudy/clear, and in order to get sleepy couchlock, harvest at 50% amber or more.

do u see the two big contradictions here????
