This grow (my first) will take place in a small closet measuring 5'x4'x9'.

Used paper towel method to germinate 3 bag seeds.

19 Feb 2010- Put germinated seeds into Aerogarden.

Using Distilled water with PH around 6.

26 Feb 2010- Added 1 small AG Nute tab.

8 March 2010- Flushed res and added new water. From here on out I will flush weekly. Roots are really developed and I'm thinking 3 plants may be way too much. Just hoping for 1 female at this point.

9 March 2010- Added 1 large AG Nute tab.

Note: I ordered Foxfarm Nutes this day as well. Have read great things about them.

10 March 2010- Opened door to closet and enjoyed a very nice minty odor. Decided I'll need some odor control soon....so ordered a 4" inline fan and a carbon filter. Also ordered a variable speed control in order to fine tune the loudness of my fan.

11 March 2010- Camera broke...but will take photos from here on out with my cell phone. Not best quaility....but best I can do for now.

I think I may be having a slight heat problem as one of the plants has a few leaves curling upwards at the edges. (see photo). Any thoughts?

not a bad idea for the first time. the only problem with the aero garden is its size. you won't be able to get a large yield from it. make sure you can adjust the lighting on it to for slowering because some of them only have one option for light time.

I forgot to mention.....I plan on vegging till they are around 12 or so inches in height. My model AG will allow a 24 inch light height.....but I also have no problems removing the light hood and finishing with a HPS should it become necessary.

As for the Lighting.....I have already bypassed the AG light timer with a figure 8 power cord from Radio Shack and have that hooked up to a timer (currently set on a 18/6 light cycle).

I understand my yield may be somewhat small.....but if I like this way of growing...and so far it's been very easy...I may get a second AG and vary the grow cycle to keep a personal supply.

DAY 21- Vegging

I'm still waiting to hear from some of you guys that have experience as to what might be curling the one plants leaves upwards (see photo)? I sure would appreciate some guidance. I'm having fun with this grow....but I'd feel better knowing I had a few experts to guide me through any tough patches. It's strange that the other 2 plants are so healthy....maybe just a bad plant?

Anyway.....I went out and added an airstone with a Whisper quiet pump. My Aerogarden Elite 6 came with a really small airstone....and it just seemed inadequate.

I also bought a temp/humidity gauge that keeps the high and lows....so I can better track that.

I'm in the process of setting up a larger grow area.....small walk-in closet....and will transfer to that when I get my inline fan and carbon filter set up in there along with the extra CFL lights etc. Should have that all ready to go this time next week! I'll take photos of the room as I set it up.

Again....please check out the photo attached. I'm concerned about that curling on the one plants leaves. I'd really appreciate any and all help I can get.

DAY 23- Vegging

Still no experts to tell me what caused the leaf curling on the one plant. I'm going to assume that it was a nute problem I guess and keep pressing on.

My largest girly (I hope) is 10.5 inches tall. All three are bushing out very nicely.

I think I need to start thinking of getting these into a flower cycle soon! Next couple of days maybe.

I've read where you want to give them 24 hours of darkness before starting the 12/12. I've also read that is not required at all. What are your opinions?

DAY 24- Vegging (12/12 tomorrow!)

These babys really grew quickly. The tallest of the 3 is about 11 inches....and the shortest is 9".

I've decided to put them on a 12/12 starting tomorrow morning.

I'll post more pictures as the budding starts. Be really nice to get a girl out of the three......fingers crossed.

hey man looks good for first, few things ,on the leaves, make sure your humity in the room is from 60-70 precent and your water temp around 70 deg the plant is trying to dissipate moisture but can not at the rate it wants check your liminting factors hum, temp, water temp, PPM it could be a nut problem but does not really look like it, you should switch them to flowering the should grow about another 2-3 feet depending on gens. one more thing if you are thinking about expanding and like hydro you should try bubbleponics its very cheap to home make and easy. about 40 for the setup flowers 6 or veg 12. keep posted very intersted on how yours goes.

FLOWERING- DAY 1 (DAYS SINCE GERMINATION- 25)

jonesy420- Thanks for the input. My water temp is right at 71-72.....but my humidity is between 40 and 50%. A little lower than the 60-70% you recommend. I'll try putting another bowl of water under the plants and see if that doesn't get the humidity up a bit. If that doesn't work would you recommend a humidifier? Thanks very much for your input!

SICC- Welcome to my 1st grow! It's reassuring to know you'll be watching and correcting my noobness as it occurs. I've read through your grows and seen some of the great advice you've given others on their first grows. Great to have you watching!

On to the grow-

After about 12 hours of darkness (last night) my timer popped my lights on for the first day of 12/12 flowering cycle at 6am this morning. This allows me to take care of business in the morning before work....and gives me an hour or so in the evening before the lights go off.

What surprises me so far on my first grow is the smell these babys are putting off for as young as they are. I get an odd whiff sometimes when I pass by the closed closet door.....but it really gets good when I first open the door in the morning. So tasty! I can't even imagine how stinky these beauties will be when they start to bud out. At this point I'm really glad I invested in an inline fan and a carbon scrubber.....now I just need to get the energy to set it up!

Tomorrow I'll do a res flush and start my girls on some Foxfarm nutes (they've been on the AG tablets up till now and have done fine...I'll be interested to see how these highly acclaimed Foxfarm nutes do). I seem to remember a recent grow journal on here that spelled out the amounts per gallon that worked the best.....I'll probably look that up and do the same. I'll have numbers for you tomorrow.

Again....thanks for the input! Updated grow pics coming on my next post!

FLOWERING- DAY 2 (DAYS SINCE GERMINATION- 26)

Did the weekly res flush today.
The girl's leaves seemed a bit on the crisp size. Could it be shock from going from 18/6 to 12/12 I wonder? Other than that they seem very healthy.

Started the Foxfarm nutes today. I'm going with what worked in another AG grow on this board. Seemed to have worked for him.....so here goes!

I went with:
2 Teaspoons Tger Bloom
2 Teaspoons Big Bloom
1/2 Large AG Nute tablet.

I broke the AG nute tab into a powder and then added it to a gallon of room-temperature distilled water. Added the Foxfarm nuts. Shook it all up. PH balanced the gallon and added it to the freshly flushed res.....

Now I wait. We'll see how it goes.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

FLOWERING- DAY 4 (DAYS SINCE GERMINATION- 28 )

SICC- As usual.....you were right. After the first day droopy-ness.....the girls seem to really have taken to the 12/12. It's amazing how they know when it's time to get their work on. 2 inches of top growth in 2 days.......I'll be lucky if this plant doesn't go over 5 feet.

ent931- No idea of the strain. Got the seed out of bag a friend had. They are some crazy looking leaves though!

Meditate- I'm keeping my lights about 2-4 inches from the tops.....no burning that way. I did some LST early on...but to be honest....this thing looks like it'll out-grow my hood pretty quick. I wish I would have started 12/12 earlier. Just in that last 2 days I have 2 inches of top growth....and she's getting bushier by the hour! Luckily I have some CFLs in my drawer.....and will be setting them up this weekend to cover the whole plant.

The grow.....

Besides the info above not much to report besides the smell is really getting noticable now outside the closet area. I am setting up my exhaust fan and carbon filter this weekend.......so that should help.
The growth has really taken off in all aspects.....height and bushy-wise. Hard to say if it was the change to 12/12, the Foxfarm nuts, or both. Next time I veg I'll be using Foxfarm from the git-go.

Pics next post.

FLOWERING- DAY 7 (DAYS SINCE GERMINATION- 31 )

Wow! It's been a week of flowering! Time flys.

So far I have not been able to determine the sexes of my babies....but because I'm an optimist......I'm going to assume they are all ladies.....until they prove otherwise.

Growth has been amazing! I've had to raise the hood twice this week. My big girl is about 24 inces tall already.....and has the bushiness to go with it. Really has been a growth explosion since they went to the 12/12.

They are really going through the water too. I figure about 1/2 gallon every other day is what they are drinking now. Work makes you thirsty I suppose....and they've been working hard!

Today I flushed out the res. I've been trying to do this more frequently....but it seems like I'm getting it done about once a week.

Like last time I pre-mixed a gallon of distilled water with:

2 teaspoons Tiger Bloom
2 teaspoons Big Bloom
1 large AG tablet

Of course after I mixed the gallon I PH tested and settled for a PH of around 6.

I went with a large AG nute tablet instead of 1/2 tablet like last time. The girls are much bigger than they were a week ago and showed a slight Nitogen deficiency on the lower leaves. I think that's normal in the flowering stage.....but I don't think it's normal till the buds begin forming (correct me if I'm wrong). So I added an extra 1/2 AG tablet......we'll see where that takes us.

I also added 4 CFL's. Two placed on each side. They are getting pretty bushy.....and I want to make sure they have enough light to stay healthy.

All in all things are going very well so far for my 1st grow......I am getting anxious to confirm their sexes.......

Been flowering for a week now.....should be any day now I'll be able to tell right?
