sry again i have no advise lol. but ya sketchup can be a bit confusing. Have you tried downloading the pre made stuff? file>3d models> get models. you can do a search then, and practically anything has been made in a 3d model on there. Including bongs lol...cars...houses you name it. Im sure they even have trash cans made already too. I use it to make 2d views and then re sketch them in flash for vector animations....nice trash can though!

Thank ya both. Planning on going to the store shortly to get some more sockets and maybe my bulbs. I think im going to just go 12/12 from seed first time out in it.

i had this same idea in the past just never followed through with making it....my idea was to get a couple of glass tubes 4"-6" in dia,and mount 125w cfls (mogul base) in the cool tubes. would get the glass tubes custom cut to the size of the inside of the top of the can to slide in almost flush with the top of the can..most glass shops can do this for under $10-$15.then mount the tubes to the lid with brackets...have a fan sucking in and blowing out on each end of the cooltube.set the lid down, line up the fans to holes cut out of the top of the can the same size as the fans/tube. would be easy to get to your plants, just lift lid lights and all out. and it would also solve your heat issues almost all of the heat is being contained in the tubes with fresh air blowing over them as hot air is being pulled out.and since most of your fans will be suspended in the air, not much noise pollution.i had also planned on lining the whole inside with panda film (black/white) that would reflect the light inside around like crazy being in a round area and the black side of the poly would keep all light from the inside getting out...and even if your can is black, light will bleed though it.a giant glowing trash can is noticeable from the outside (IR) as much as it is on the inside.but other then that i was going to def make a screen in there....can be as easy as drilling a few holes and tying some string/thread woven in and out of the holes on the inside.

and i did manage to find time to build a smaller version of this idea...and the plant in this is still alive and 2 weeks into flower...is about 3 foot tall now.was transplanted of course.
but this was 2 fruit punch jugs cut and taped together...the inside is lined with aluminum tape then duct tape on the outside.this is also the scrog i wanted to do in a can...but on a much smaller scale...but you get the idea.

Yea definitely something worth playing with but tbh that sounds like WAAAY too much BS for my purposes atm. Later on down the road il probably go big and then il set up something sweet on a large scale but atm this is just something to supply me with pain meds and a good nights sleep. That said I have been thinking about the lighting issue. Going with 26W or 23W or whatever I can get around there is going to give me 1200-1600 lumens per bulb for an approx of 12,000-16,000 total. Obviously I want to shoot for 16,000 but I believe its going to end up with me just eating it and only going with 8 bulbs instead of 10 because of the mounting issue previously mentioned for the last 2 sockets. I may be able to fit in 2 more with a Y split or something but I dont know yet. If I have the time and money I think later I may be able to double or possibly even triple the lighting in the can. Thought about painting the inside also and I think im going to. I know I definitely want to at least paint the lid so I have some kind of hood. And as for air flow I figure im going to get 40-60 CF/M of air exchange through the container and that coupled with the exhaust being close to the lights and the cyclone shape of the can over all I think heat wont be an issue. Obviously its going to prove me wrong just because I said something but I can get a nasty CO2 system set up in no time if I cant get the temps down low enough to run without it.

the best lumen bang for the cfl buck i've seen are GE's 26w soft white(2700k) - 1750 lumens
walmart sells an off name brand that looks identical in specs and construction
i use a single PC fan for 3 of them, temps are well under control
at 12000 lumens, you're talking about 7 of those, and 2 PC fans ought to take care of that heat
not trying to boost these cfl's, just that i've cooled them with PC fans, so i have a feel how much cooling you should need

O yea man boosting them or not experience is experience. Only fools argue with it. Im hoping I can push at least 13,000 lumens out of it if possible. Id not only be happy there but I think thatd be good enough not to worry about up grading it too much which would give me time to come up with fixes for other problems.

Just pretty much finished for today. Only can afford to go with 8 lights but I did manage to get 2 of the 1750 lumen bulbs today and between now and monday il be getting the other 6. About 95% asleep atm so excuse any massive typos. Got 4 of the sockets mounted and I got most of the dirt mixed up so hopefully il have it finished and running temp diagnostics etc on it by tomorrow afternoon. Anyway...munchies and I have an early day tomorrow peace...

Paints drying now. Wasnt exactly an optimal paint job in terms of quality or soil safety (forgot to paint before I put it in so I pimped out a trash bag to help me) but im 100% sure itll work for reflectng light and 99% sure it wont hurt my plants. Now all I have left to do is find 2 more PC fans, Get my ventilation installed, And get the rest of my bulbs.

Okay well I could only muster up 2 extra 10W CFL's for heat testing. With 72W between 4 bulbs I let them run for a few minutes until the lid started going from warm to hot and then cut the ventilation on and it cooled the lid back down (and obviously the lights lol) in about 7 minutes.

Edit: forgot to add: Keep an eye out for my grow journal gotta get some seeds and the rest of my lights and im ready to go.
