Well marijuana likes light airy soil.
The roots will be able to weave there way through the soil getting bigger and bigger.
A plant planted straight into the ground has to deal with some seriously compact dirt so roots can’t penatrate as easily as a pot.
Yes you can dig a hole and fill it with a good medium to grow in, however after about 3 shovels full trying to dig a 10g hole, I bet you’ll just use a bucket or pot lol.
All so called professionals grow in 100 gallon pots all the way up to 1000 gallon for the exact reasons I just mentioned.

This is for one of my friends
They had to be mobile so when company came over they could be moved out of site. It will be her first time growing. It's a mixture of amended soil that i've had composting since November. It also a DIY SIP container with a 30L plus rez. All she has to do is fill the pipe until water comes out the side of the container. I told her I would do all the feedings and compost teas when needed.
I do have plants in the ground at other friends too

fyi...there is a blight that grows on apple trees and in turn passes it off to cedar tress....
which in turn passes it back to the apple tree...
Problem is it will also transfer to mj plants as well..if they are close by...
it will show as circular scabs on the sucker leaves of mj plants...and there is no real way to
prevent it..... short of cutting down one or other species of tree....

I noticed the phenotypes are all over the map. I popped 5 seeds and some are more Blueberry, others more Cheese smelling and different growth types as well. It's harvest day today and it's pretty sticky!

How are those autopots? How long do you find they can go without a top off? Im looking to get some so I can leave town for more than a week at a time.
Its possible to do if you have good res... I went on a weeks vacation every year. YES it was tense not being able to look but you can now a day with cams and phone apps.. lol At least you will know when the pump stopped working
ps you never want the roots to sit in water although the WICK pots can keep them alive but they will suffer.

I'm still in veg and I think if you fill them you won't need to fill for 2-4 weeks, bloom I'm thinking 10-14 days but I don't know for sure yet.

Autopots run off a gravity fed double float valve. There is a .2mm channel from the auto valve to the pot. The valve only opens when the air bubble breaks on the inside valve.Its possible to do if you have good res... I went on a weeks vacation every year. This is not a wicking system, it uses a float valve to close a 1/4" line when the water level is full. The valve stays closed until the small channel dries up enough for the inner float to drop all the way down. This opens the line back up.
I have airdomes in the pots but I need an air pump for my tent. I was running the airdomes inside the producer box. If anyone gets autopots I would caution you to avoid moving them around. The auto valve is pressed onto a T shaped fittings. I noticed one of my autovalves popped up and ended up nearly draining my res.
