Ok, at least i know im not the only one. The guage came with the press so no extra dough spent there. I like having it, and i do kinda the same as you farmer j and do about a ton to warm up then increase a ton or so every so often as well.
Just trying to see if i can keep it from seeping out. Still though, isthereone nylon washer in there or 2?
I agree with Gb ......the gauge isn't an absolute. You get a feel for it as he said.
And yes there is a thing as TOO much pressure. His explanation is right on.

If I use both hands it becomes strenuous(: Eh Hippy ;)
One squish with the weight of both arms and a bit of force is about it really.

I use cheap parchment and know that it rips @ anything higher 6 1/2 tons, so for me the gauge just tells me when to stop bumping it higher. Plus I prefer to watch the gauge closer than I watch the clock, you can see the pressure bleeding as the rosin flows. I don't bump up pressure much, maybe a 1/4 ton or less every 15-20 seconds. So no, it's not an absolute, but keeps me from wasting rosin over ripping parchment paper, and saves a little $ by not buying the expensive stuff.

I haven't found much difference in the various parchments I've tried. I think I have 4 different type tight now. One is a bit thinner It seems.

Speaking of rosin pressing I used up all my rosin chips for butter today.
I used 7 pounds of butter

Apparently soy or sunflower Lecithin helps the THC to bind to the fat better.

I'll be trying it tomorrow.

Niiice. Just a heads up, you can find soy lecithin at bulk barn along with coconut oil. Saves money on big batches
:bigjoint:

Edit: They also sell geletin, flavoring concentrates and molds if you want to make gummies or candies
