No you are not, not without ensuring compliance with health and safety, food hygiene, etc, legislation. The second you go from cooking a snack for some mates to charging in some manner or providing a regular supply on demand you go from "private" to "business" as you are providing goods and/or a service, whether that is done for profit, gain, reward or some "superior purpose" is immaterial, you are still providing goods and/or a service and therefore fall under assorted regulations. Plenty examples of people falling foul of such things, as seen at assorted things like village/school fêtes as an example where petty council officials get assorted products pulled because compliance with assorted regs cannot be proven.

And since growth, supply, distribution and sales of MJ in the UK, IF it becomes legalised, will mean licencing along the lines of at least the same level as alcohol, and the second any money or goods changes hands in exchange for your home brew you are technically liable for duty, vat, etc, before you go down that line, then any sales of home grown MJ will be illegal unless regs on sales, etc, are adhered to. That's a LOT of paperwork for no reward, and will have to be reflected in your "cost price".

Of course, as long as you keep it on the QT then it's unlikely that anyone would bother you, especially when not making a profit. A few close friends who know how to keep quiet, never going to be an issue. Start getting a name in wider circles as someone who does good, cheap, weed, you're inviting trouble, and not necessarily from only plod.

Never sell your weed cheap, unless it is hay.

Well, he's talking about "cost price", as in no profit, so that's going to be cheaper than market.

If it isn't, there's something iffy.

I mean, cost is one of the biggest reasons for growing, it is to me anyway.

Here in Florida we have a {free} permit that is required to sale any produce you grow. I trucked farmed for years, selling melons, peas and peppers at farmer's markets. I could sell any fresh produce, but couldn't sell pepper sauce since it was processed.

Yeah ! That’s challenging. I remember going to VancouverBC back in 2009 and looking around for pot shops and they were very underground. Your president is leagalizing it i Thought?

Here there's similar, and another thing that changes the rules instantly is the second you sell something pre-packed.

But, as I say, there's a difference between fruit and what would still be a controlled substance. You couldn't, for example, sell alcohol from your little enterprise, and that's the minimum level of control there would be on marijuana, so we should stop thinking about how we can all sell assorted things from home but start thinking more along the lines of whether we can legally sell substances such as alcohol without being licenced or paying any sort of taxes in any way.

Yes the federal government is but Ontario, as of now, is only allowing provincial outlets. Other Provinces will have control of how it’s distributed. I got my first commercial storefront pot in Vancouver while out there on a business trip, some of the best I’ve ever smoked in a long time lol.

Yes, it is going to be legalized but things will get worse, not better. Right now the dispensaries are NOT underground - they are all over the place, out in the open. In my small city of 90,000 people, there are about a dozen to choose from. On top of that, there are LOTS of Canadian mail-order dispensaries.

Once things are legalized, many of these dispensaries will be shut down due to being denied licenses, and they will be subject to much more strict penalties/jail time than in the past. Only the big corporate "weed chains" will be able to operate. That's what many people are predicting.

Cannabis legalization can take many forms - in Canada it appears to just be prohibition 2.0 - government cartel.

But at least I will be able to grow 4 plants under 1m tall for personal use.

i would have an 4 x 8 tent, and scrog two at a time as big as i could get the bastards, let em veg for 3 or 4 months, just have another one ready to go when you harvest one, just keep em under a meter....they may be three meters wide, but they're slightly less than one meter tall....

My tent is only 20" x 36" but that is my basic plan. I am not a heavy user, so after a few grows I suspect I will have a significant surplus of a wide variety.

Depending on the hoops I have to jump through for a permit (or whatever it is going to be), I might just not bother at all. Why be on "a list" if you don't have to be?

I am leaning towards that myself.

I figure once personal growing is legal here, the risk of not having a permit will be minimal.

What list? I agree not to be on a list but there is none for the 4 plant grow. Also I was under the impression the 3m thing was quashed?
