Glad ya liked it, here is a topping tute

LST is kinda an individual thing as you train the plant the way you want, simply tie branches down a little bit at a time till you get em to where you want em, there is no set way it's a matter of what you envision as working best for your garden

Don,

If your looking at ordering online the place I buy from is HTGsupply (www.htgsupply.com). They carry most of the common nutes brands (though I don't think they carry Jacks) and the prices are slightly less then you would pay at a hydro store or garden shop where I live. Only thing is that shipping charges add up quick, so you want to order everything you need at once or you'll end up paying just as much as you would if you had driven to the hydro shop yourself.

Doog,

Don't I have to have at least a couple tie dyed t-shirts to meet the uniform requirements for my age group? I'm good on old faded out blue jeans, and I've even got a headband or two left over from the 70's, but I haven't had a tie dye shirt in more then 20 years. Without that or an old Led Zeppelin concert shirt how is anyone supposed to identify me? :P

If I was going perpetual I would set up 4 flowering areas/rooms with 4 plants each and one veg/mother area/room which I would set up as a shelf system

If your going to do the add and take away from one area as was described earlier I would advise having 2 lights so you can adjust for the unlevel canapy

either way works, just have to pre-plan the setup and events to create a positive flowing schedule

I also want to point out for any noob's just reading the current postings that every new grower that has read ALL of this thread has healthy plants growing, growers that have failed are now doing well.

If you are a new grower having problems getting your grow on this thread WILL give you a foundation for sucess

Oh yeah in soil, or soil-less, thread is not about hydro

Riddle,

Hmm,

I hadn't thought about the need to have different sets of lights for different ages of flowering, but it makes sense. I had this concept that involved getting some wally world 4 bulb ballasts, putting some decent bulbs in them and hanging them as side lights on 2-3 sides of the grow area ,and just hanging 1-2 HID's overhead. My thought was that the side lighting would compensate for the fact that the over head lights were hung quite a bit higher then normal.

I wish there were more data on how well grows go when using different types of lighting during different periods(not different spectrums). I'm going to have to get a floursecent ballast and bulbs to do cloning under, and i've already got the 400w and 600w that can easily handle 4 plants each, but that still leaves a couple positions that I'll need to get lighting for. I'd really prefer not to add any more HID's since my rooms haven't be rewired to handle heavy power loads, but I'm not sure you can grow them under CFL's/T8's for 2/3 of their life and then switch them to HID's for the last 1/3 without creating problems. I'm also not sure if switching them to the HID's at that point will really make much of a difference in the harvest or quality of the herb either.

thanks riddle i dont know how i didnt find UB's thread on topping i read it and know how to do it properly im going to start growing under cfls soon so i will probably start a journal here ill let you guys know

hey guys i plan to start a grow journal soon within a month when i move and get settled, ive decided to grow 4 bagseeds at the same time under cfls in my closet i plan to lst one fim another and top another one and let the last one do its thing to see what i should use in the future, im going to use ub's germination technique because it seems the most logical ill keep you guys posted on when ill be starting it

No experience with hydro flood & drain? Sorry, perhaps others will chime in, where is Shrubs??? when we need him :bigjoint:
F + D! FTW!!.

Nice, dependable, controllable, hydroponics. Ahhh...:weed:

As far as F/D nutes go there are lots of options. Dynagro works pretty well and its not that expensive. GH FloraNova 1 part nutes work well too but they are sludgy. Mix well.

The thing to remember is it is still just basic plant nutrition. Shoot for a NPK of 3-1-2 in veg and 1-3-2 in bloom. Go easy on the PK boosters (like koolbloom) as too much P will cause all kinds of problems.

Feed veg nutes or 50/50 veg/bloom mix till week 4 of flower, the plants NEED the extra N for the stretch.

Good luck! :weed:

 I'm sure I've got an old Pink Floyd tie-dye around here somewhere

I can't believe I got to the end of the 106 pages. Between this and the many tangents I was led into it took 2 and a half days. Great info between you and UB. I used Mel Franks book the first time and kept it. I have grown 3 crops but it was 6 or 7 years ago. I used Overgrow.org last time for research, and used this site since last year for my grow room set up. I'm using a different site to grow and I have completed 90% of my new grow room.
Got a ? or two for you. Does anyone have any opinions on a strain that helps with spasticity?(I have Multiple Sclerosis) I have seen MJ helping me immensely. Some different strains have helped more than others. I am about to get my clones started in a week or two. My light hood for my flowering chamber is almost done. I have a 400w MH (veg), and two 150w HPS(flowering). I'm starting with 6 clones. Royal Kush, Lemon Skunk, Grand Daddy Purple, Hash Plant X Haze, NY White Rhino, and an unknown strain from Oregon. My flowering chamber is 6.5 sq. ft. and I'm planning on 8-10 plants in it. I'm thinking of the strains heavier in Indica will be better for my medical condition. It seems to relax the spasticity. I'm thinking of adding Blue Mystic when I can get the clone or two in a few weeks. I'll use soil, and stay as organic as I can. (but not set in stone as I already agreed with you and UB on plants knowing the difference.) I have a mother and clone area so I will get mothers (2-3) going. Thanks for all your work on this thread.

Thanks Am I and Kreigs, your compliments mean alot to a noob like me.

Hey Normal, I seen that closet monster growing in the 50 gal container. How many colas did you say, 48 I believe.:o
Cant wait to see what happens with it. Do you have a thread going for that one?

Kriegs, my fellow Michigander,(although I still call it home, Have not lived there in over 20 yrs).I been watching your journal and the girls look good.:weed: Your rite, they took the hell off when you upcanned em. I am subscribed and cant wait to see what the results are.

no sadly enough i didn't expect much out of it so i never made a thread about my closet monster but truthfully i think the stress on them is going to be too much for them Ive already had to kill 2 males and one hermi and i have another one i fear about to go hermi on me also..if im lucky i might have one left when its done thank god i got clones going lol .. oh well even if it totaly fails least it was fun .. and isnt that what its all about really... :bigjoint:

Public Service Announcement : smoking yourself retarded and experimenting on your plants = HUGE fun !! :-P

And some fresh soil goes even farther. I just upcanned my superskunks 2 weeks into flower, a supposed no-no but they had clearly stripped the old soil and it was just going to be a constant dance from there.

Good job, bigman -- they look really nice now!
lol they don't call them Super Skunk for nothing i be that far into flower you pissing them skunks off had your whole house tore up with the stink lol
all i have to do is pet my skunks a little and you almost cant breath in the room bongsmilie

Thank you for reading the whole thing! Glad you liked it, did not mind the work that went into it cause it was fun :bigjoint:

Can't say as to specific strains but agree that mostly indica would be right, I'd say the Northern Lights Special I just harvested might be good for it? def good for pain as it numbs things bongsmilie

Now that I have learned to be a little patient with the girls it has turned out to be fun.:hump: At first all I did was stress over everything that was going on with them. I can not believed they are still living. I thought smoking bud was my favorite past time, now it's more about growing it, although I can't wait to be able to light up with the wife and enjoy the end result's.

Here is a couple picks of my other girl. :mrgreen:This girl grew sideways for a awhile and then took a turn for the sky. Thats why she is at the edge of the pot. Did not do any triming to this girl but check out the mini canopy going at the base of her. I think she is still streching too.

I posted some pics of my new grow room if you can check it out. I made a really cool remote ballast for dual 150w HPS flowering chamber.

I'm thinking 3 gallon square pots for flowering, with a soil mix, adding bone & blood meal, perlite, dolomite lime, vermiculite. I'll feed with Fish Emulsion and a 0-10-10 Bloom fert.
