Yesterday was Day 0 for what I hope to be a perpetual grow. I got 10 Chronic Haze clones on 12/17/2010 and transplanted 7 of them to 5x5 pots, and 3 of them went right into #2 smart pots. They began veg'ing on 12/18. On 12/31, after about 12 days of 18/6, CH#8 went into the flower box for a transition day of ~15 hours daylight before it's first night of 12/12.

I still have 1 plant in flower that will be harvested within a week, one random Afghan that was Germ'd on 11/17, topped on 12/13, and transitioned to the flower box on 12/18. I wanted to veg her longer but I had such a large gap in my flower box due to so many previous males, and needed the room in veg for the clones when I got them. She hasn't shown balls yet, nor pistils, but I can see what I am confident is a calyx at this point.

Also in the flower box is a Kannabia Power Skunk in a 18oz party cup, that I am trying to take 12/12 from seed. It was put in water on 12/23, germ'd on x-mas day and put into a root riot. On 12/29 it was above the root riot enough it got put into the party cup and spent 15 hours under the T5 before going to bed for 12/12 in the flower box. It has been slowly moved up from ground level to increase the lumens.

The plan from here is to move one clone into flower every 10 days and after 60 days hopefully throw CH#8 into darkness for 72 hours to finish, before harvesting. I can fit 7 or 8 in the flower box if I need to let it go 70 days instead. I am also making plans to build a flower box about double the size.

The clones are going to start getting a bit big before long and will have to be topped and/or trained to control some of the height possibly. I have a friend that is a caregiver and he is hopefully going to be trading me some seeds for a few of my clones, so he can do some cross-breeding. I am afraid of what the veg box will look like in 50 days when there are 6 in flower and 4 still in veg.

I thought I wanted to try and use all clones for perpetual but I think it may be easier for me to control my plant numbers, and not have to deal with rooting clones, if I try to use mostly fem'd seeds. I may try to clone still, but either way I need to get rid of some of these clones before they become too big in veg for me to flower.

Pics from the garden today, Day 1 of the perpetual grow: :hump:

I ask a question over on bauks thread that this one answered, for the most part, still interested to see the solution to your "vegging plants getting to big before its time to move them to flower room" problem. cause when I try to work out the pre pet in my head I run into the same thing: what to do w/ the vegging plants that get to big for the veg box? the only solution I see is starting fewer at a time and staggering the starts just like the flowering ones?
anyway, can't wait to see this grow get really rolling!

Ideally you want the plants in veg all staggered, just like they are staggered in flower. I happened across someone with clones and it was cheaper for me to take 10 of them, than it would have been to only take 6 or 7 of them. I figured I could use the 6 or 7 best ones and get rid of the weaker ones or the ones that become too big.

I think the first two clones that go to flower will not get topped, but I am going to have to start topping some of the taller ones in veg that are single cola, soon (some are shorter, with 2 smaller stems, and may not need to be topped). They are all starting to really take off now after their 2nd feeding. I will wait until after my friend takes a few clones off my hands later this week, before I top them. I want to keep my finished plants below 40" - 42" so I dont want them getting any bigger than 15" - 18" in veg. I am expecting a good bit of stretch with this sativa dominant chronic haze strain.

.......
Nothing major to report in the garden other than the clones are all starting to take off now, after their 2nd feeding and subsequent watering. The one in flower is 9 - 10" and the ones in veg are all 6 - 8".

The Kannabia Power Skunk is doing OK, considering she has been on 12/12 in a party cup since she stood up from the root riot plug.

I soaked a Nirvana Wonder Woman seed the same day I put CH8 into flower and it cracked open yesterday, and got put into the root riot plug on the heating pad. It will stay under the dark cover until it fully rights itself out of the root riot hole. Then I can remove the cover and transplant it into a 5x5 pot. Hopefully I get rid of a couple of these clones this week or my veg box is gonna quickly become a jungle.

Pics of the harvest from Beth, yesterday morning. She was the black sheep of the flower room. She was so tall early on in veg that I topped her at the first node, which was a rookie mistake. Her 2 new main stems took off like crazy.

Her is a pic of her in veg from 10/09/10 after being topped.

She got moved into flower on 10/18/10. She is the one in the bottom/front left corner.

By 11/03/10 she was taller than the rest of my canopy and still stretching a lot. I decided to do a bit of hi-stress training.

Here she is the next day, turned back to the light.

Unfortunately it seemed to be a bit too stressful so I removed the metal brace in 4 - 7 days. I tried using string to keep it down but eventually I gave up. The pics below are from 11/15/10.

And finally the harvest pics, after 73 or 74 days of 12/12 and 40 hours of darkness. Wet weight with stems was about 310g.

awesome pics man. bet the smoke was killer! appreciate ur response to my question. I was talking to another guy about it today and kinda worked it out as we discussed it (staggering ur veg just like ur flower) can't wait to get past a few hurdles and get going w/ one of my own soon.

This makes things interesting. I just found out that these clones are from a 'Chronic' plant, not a 'Chronic Haze'. It is the older version of the strain from Serious Seeds. I think I will be topping some of them regardless, and trying to clone the tops for future rounds in the perpetual system, in case some of these in veg get too big for my box and have to be culled.

My Wonder Woman seed poked her head up today but had the seed casing stuck to it, so I had to peel that off. I put the lid back on for another 12 - 36 hours before I am gonna let her see the T5's.

I need to get rid of some of these clones or my veg box is gonna be ridiculous. This morning the one in flower is at 10" and most of the ones in veg are near 8". They are all growing so fast it is hard to recognize them sometimes when I open the garden in the morning.

I dont know if I should post-pone the perpetual system and just throw all these babies into flower now; or if I should try to clone the tops from some, and cull those mothers, to thin my veg room and use the clones later in the perpetual system. I really hate the thought of having to cull such healthy clones. I think if I rig together a raised floor for the flower box I could fit almost all of them into flower SOG style.

I can get some more height in my veg room by moving the 400mh to the left one stair riser, and put the T5 to the right, but I really dont want my veg plants to get bigger than 15" - 18". :-?

Harvest Update:

Beth:

She had been hanging for 4-1/2 days last night and was getting rather crispy. The stems were just starting to crack so I wanted to jar them up. The last batch got a bit too dry.

I trimmed them off the main stems this time and put them in jars late last night. It weighed 85g. They were rather moist when I burped them this morning so I dumped them out for a while and will jar them back up later.

Cassie:
She went into the dark last night. She looks terrible from the potassium (and other) deficiencies. I am going to cut her main stem and hang the whole plant with all the leaves, tonight or tomorrow. I was just reading a bit about drowning the plants the last few days (will try on future harvests) to help begin the fermentation process, as well as hanging the entire plant with all it's leaves to help slow the drying process and help begin fermentation.

Here she is for here last time in the flower box:

Kannabia Power Skunk (KPS) Party Cup Update:

She is now 14 days since she germ'd on 12/25. 9 days under 12/12.

Nirvana Wonder Woman (NWoW) Update:

She shed the last of her casing yesterday morning and got transplanted to a 5x5 pot of pro mix and water and put under the T5's.

Chronic Clone #8 (CH8) Update: 7 Days 12/12

She is a solid 11" and stretching like crazy. She got week 3 veg nutes yesterday, along with all the other Chronic siblings.

Cold Floors:

Yesterday I shoved all the veg plants into the flower box temporarily while I added a ghetto floor liner by cutting up some old dining table leaf protectors, to insulate the veg room from the cold concrete floor. I am going to chop up the actual wooden leaves to build a makeshift raised floor for the flower box this weekend.

Veg Clones:

A couple of the clones seem to be having some sort of deficiency/toxicity that looks a bit like rust spots. I am not sure if it is a Ph issue or a nutes issue, but it is probably time for me to get a good digital Ph meter and start testing soil, runoff, etc.

I decided I am going to try some super-cropping to control the height in my veg room once I get rid of some of these to my friend tomorrow. I decided to give it a first try on the clone with the worst spotted leaves.

Here is the garden yesterday morning, overflowing from the veg box.

I did some LST/CCOB yesterday on a couple of the Chronic babies that had 2 branches already. I now wish I had waited for them to get a bit bigger before the training. I will have to keep training them around the pot now as they veg and the bottom colas may get a bit taller than I want by the time the main stems finish getting trained around.

I super-cropped another one also, because the other was responding so well from yesterday. The 2nd one I super-cropped a bit too hard, I think. I split the stem pretty good, and decided to add some duct tape to it today for extra reinforcement.

I fired up the bubble/spray cloner and took 2 cuttings from my afghan that was 20 days into flower and 2 from the CH#8 that was 8 days into 12/12.

I also traded away 4 of my tallest chronics for a handful of misc reg seeds to finally thin down my veg room. A few mystery seeds, Ice, Kalifornia Orange Kush, and Medi-Kush cross w/ Kali Orange.

I plan to LST the other single cola plant I have left, to control the veg canopy. The 2 dual stem ones I already LST'd will get a bit of a CCOB treatment as they continue to veg/stretch. One of them needs to get moved to veg tomorrow and I think it will be the one I super-cropped 2 days ago. That should give me some time to train these other ones and let the cracked stem of the super-crop gone bad heal.

Here is the veg box at the end of the day. 5 Chronics: 2 CCOB'd, 2 Super-Cropped, and 1 single cola to LST today. 1 Nirvana Wonder Woman (8 days old), and 4 cuttings.

More updates later after I do some more LST and scab together a raised floor for my flower box.

Today I made a raised floor for the flower box out of some old table leafs.

I also made some more 3.5ga DIY Air-Pails (thanks hobbes) and re-potted CH#6 into my first version I made some time ago.

I also did some LST on CH#5 in it's #2 smart pot.

Here is a pic of the last harvest, from my first grow, after 3 days of darkness and 1 day hanging.

10 Days flowering for the first Chronic Clone CH#8 and time to move in the one that got transplanted yesterday. I am going to leave it untied for the first 5 - 10 days of flower so it can stretch along the main stems before I tie it down to far around the edge of the pail. Hopefully the stretch will help fill out the rim and it will cut down on some of the stretch for the bottom/flimsy stems.

I transplanted the other 2 clones, with 2 main stems, to the air-pails I made yesterday. I didn't tie these ones down either, so they could hopefully do most of their new growth for a few days at the tips. I will then start tying it down/around the pail every few days, and let the tips grow back up some. I am hoping this controls the height/stretch on the bottom stems (which now think they are main stems, if the main tip is taken too low). I am also planning to add some plant cages later, hopefully before any of the LST/CCOB plants get too far into stretch.

I also made a new bubble cloner today, but (tomorrow, I realize) I need to get a bigger air pump and redo it a little bit better.

rasputin71

Well-Known Member
I fired up the bubble cloner today and realized I need a bigger pump for the 2 air stones, need to wrap it all in foil tape to block the light, and need a couple more holes in it.

I also went to the grow store for some goodies. They didnt have my 3.5ga pails so I got some 2.5ga 'R.H. Tubs'. I am using some pet-resistant window screen this time instead of aluminum. I also bought a couple in-between bit sizes. This pot has one row of 2" holes, and 1 row of 1-3/4" holes, covered with 2 layers of the plastic mesh.

I grabbed a new roughneck tub from Ace and a dual outlet air pump from the grow shop. I made 8 holes in top, 2 holes in the side for air tubing, and wrapped it up in foil tape. I broke one of the 6" strip stones taking it off the old tubing so I replaced it with a heavy duty 2" round stone I was using in the spray cloner.

Later I transplanted CH#5 to the 2.5ga pail (on a slight angle to help with LST later), rained in 2 gals of water and then ran thru 1/2ga of veg nutes.

Flower box update:

Afghan [Francine]: 24 Days of 12/12, 56 Days from germ. Supposedly a 55 day strain for flower, but she took a long time to show pistils.

Kannabia Power Skunk [Gina]: 13 days of 12/12, 19 days from Germ

Chronic Clone CH#8 [Heidi]: 11 days of 12/12 (veg'd for 13 days). Has doubled in size from <8" to 16"+.

Chronic Clone CH#6 [Isabel]: 1 day of 12/12 (veg'd for 23 days).

No, I have not. I was just lookin for short flowering strains. 70 sounds about right, from seed. I am already planning to stretch out my 'once every 10 days' plan to 'once every 12 days' instead. This should allow me 72 days to flower for the ones I grow from seed and keep a max of 6 plants flowering.

I will post an update later tonight, or tomorrow (more likely).

I think I am gonna need to go get some plant support cages or grow-thru cages/screens, for when these LST plants start stretching. Hopefully I can find them at lowes or home depot, in the middle of winter. They are just gonna turn into massive/wide bushes if I dont find some way to keep them stretching up, instead of out. Especially the 3 that are still vegging for a couple weeks. They are gonna be huge when flowered after 50 or 60 days of veg.....

I will post some updated pics later today or tomorrow. I was gonna post them last night but decided to get drunk instead. :hump:
