Hanna combo pen, problems

just bought a Hanna combo pen a couple days ago for my DWC tank (new to hydro)

you would THINK it would come already calibrated ..... well it doesnt but everytime i try to calibrate it it just says 7.01 USE and "cal" flashes and it never calibrates or switchs to 4.01

heres the shit part , i already adjusted my tank to 6.5 before i realized it was WAY off

in the buffer solution the 7.01 reads 8.6 and the 4.01 reads 7.2

dont know what to do i keep trying and trying to get it to calibrate but after 8 min it auto shuts off. i did some searchs and did everything from letting the probe soak in water for an hour to letting it sit in PH down for 5 min yada yada yada with no luck ?

any suggestions ?

PS its bran new meter 2 days old , and it calibrated ppm at .5 1382 with no problem took like 5 secs

Bring it back to the store where you bought it.

If bought used, call the manufacturer.

They'll walk you through it.

Good luck :)

Its possible...

And you followed directions eh?

well the instruction are vague at best but i youtubed and read some up on it and got it figured out. it just wont calibrate

tester in buffer solution : way off 7.0

ok got it swapped out today for a new tester , hydro store gave me some flack about it and made me buy new buffer solutions but what ever i got a working PH tester now

thanks CG ;)

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone who comes across it with the same calibration problems there is an easy fix. 1. let the meter soak in 7.01 - 7.0 buffer solution for 1/2 hour. Take the batteries out for 5 minutes. Put batteries back in, and recalibrate. Sometimes the calibration gets far enough off that it won't recognize the buffer solution and it won't calibrate, or people have re-used the same calibration solution and contaminated it throwing off the calibration far enough that the meter won't recognize a non contaminated buffer solution. Sometimes from the factory it is just off. Either way, This is how you fix that.
