Wanted to make some candies, was going to use iso honey oil, question though should I decarb then make the oil, or make the oil then decarb??

Most people use a double boiler type and heat the iso watching co2 bubbles form and escape. When no more of those bubbles are forming its done. This method is a bit more precise than baking weed in the oven and not really knowing when its finished or if it is....

To minimize loss, mix candies in the same container you double boil it in, go for the precision method mentioned above. It takes about 30min after reaching full temp for the bubbles to stop.

Edit: use pyrex or metal and it helps to lean it on its side and allow the oil to pool in a corner.

I've been using hot oil bath to decarb the oil I make. Using a 6 cup Pyrex measuring cup, it's made for higher temps. It works well. I find the oil gets around the same temp as the bath. So a digital therm. Is def reccmd. I then add mct oil & lecithin, after cools then put into dropper for easy dossage.

It can be done both ways really depending on your setup, knowledge, intent on use and preferred methods. And how you are extracting is also crucial and good to know (ISO, BHO, CO2, etc.).

You can decarb prior to extraction if doing and ISO extract AND not cooking with it (not applying heat) i.e. tinctures or no bake applications and treats, candies, chocolates, gummies etc.
You can decarb after extraction if by chance you are extracting using BHO or CO2 and keeping some for dabs and then some for edibles. Decarbing wax/shatter is as easy as a glass pyrex pot and a heating plate/electric griddle.

Keeping to just your honey oil question, if stinking up your kitchen doesnt matter, decarb it in the oven at a specified temp (THC or CDB) and then extract with the ISO/Alcohol. If decarbing after the fact you will spend more time and effort getting there then stinking up your kitchen for an hour or so. Th

I've been doing a decarb before making the iso extract. I've had great success with decarbing after iso wash. Using a heat tempered Pyrex measuring cup inside an oil bath. I use a infrared therm, keeping the oil bath around 225f, this is also great for purging out any residual alcohol & water. I find doing a oven bake for the bio mass 245f for 30min & then the hot oil bath post extraction around 15min or so, works very well. Tincture & topical alike. Time to get your healing on.
