i don't like lowes, it's like home depot for preppies. i see contractors at home depot, i see Skip and Flip at lowes, in sandals, khaki shorts, and button down shirts.......and they charge more for most of the stuff i buy regularly. their perlite is 50% more than home depots, they don't sell any peat that i like....their cashiers are ugly, or guys, or both......
Worse half the time they don't have what you need and when you ask they give you the look. Heading out, after checking my list and my parts stores one more time to Home Depot! The only thing I prefer from Lowes are their blue buckets.

Fuck Lowes, never have had a good experience there, mainly because the employees are mental deficients. I mix my own soil, needed components and the garden shop I usually go to was out. Head to Lowes and I'm checking out the all the different potting soil mixes, there was at least 23 diff types all on pallets. I don't want pre-fertilized or amended, I do that at home and make specific batches for specific uses. So I move from spot to spot reading the ingredients. I notice an employee watching me, doesn't come over and ask if I need help(I don't), just watches. Soon he goes to another employee they talk and both watch me. A bit later some kind of assist manager comes into the garden section and both employees talk to him. Finally the AM comes over, closely shadowed by the other 2 and asks what i'm doing. Now if this was occurring at 11pm outside a bar or at the ATM I'd suspect I'm gonna get mugged. I tell the dude what I'm doing and looking for, he seems annoyed and tells me to just pick one and make my purchase. I laugh and tell him to bring the store manager over cuz I don't want just a bag, I want a pallet and that these lazy shitbirds are going to have some work to do. He does, I tell the whole saga to the manager, stressing the lack of communication and whatever bizarre imaginary scenario the employees talked themselves into that lead to this discussion. He is pissed; and I declined to purchase anything and walked out. Dude was chewing out all 3 as I left. I then went to HD and got my shit

Fuck Lowe's. I use a local owned store.

Everytime I go to Lowe's I ask for something, get told they don't carry it, find it myself and then show the person and call them lazy and stupid.
Had the same thing happen to my wife last night at a local hardware
The salesman told her they don't carry 50 packs of nitrile gloves
I told her where they were and had her show him LOL

It all depends on the quality of the employee I guess

you should have come back and parked your loaded truck outside the garden department, went and asked for the same manager, and shown him the load, just to make sure he knew what he just lost

Ouch, I've seen what both of them charge and it's crazy!
I find the best deals in co-ops or landscaping wholesalers who also sell retail.

Hell I just bought 4 cu ft of large perlite from the local landscaping wholesale place for $17 out the door. :hump:
They also sell worm castings for $10/cu ft. :hump::hump:

And there's a co-op about 20 miles from here that sells FFOF for $13.50 + tax for the big bag (1.5 cu ft). :hump::hump::hump:

It pays to shop around. :eyesmoke:

i have to go 30 miles up the interstate to get to a "normal" place. the whole county i live in is based on tourism, and while we have both lowes and home depot, they both kind of suck for prices compared to the stores 30 miles away in knoxville. the co-op here has some decent stuff, but not even close to everything.
