Pre-Harvest steps?

Hey everyone, I'm fast approaching my first harvest and I'm realizing now just how much I still don't know.

I've been trying to read/watch step-by-steps to get an idea of how exactly to go about chopping, but I'm seeing a few other things I didn't eve know about.

One person said they split the main stem 10 days before chopping. They said it promotes THC production. Is this something you do every time? I've never heard of it before..

What's your preference with the number of hours of total dark before chop? Do you do any?

Feel like I got out of the woods and into a briar patch haha any and all advise/tips/personal input is appreciated.

Try to keep it simple the chopping part is easy. You probably want to do it in a few steps cutting the top mature colas first, let the bottom stuff finish up for a couple more days if it needs it. The hard part is the drying and curing process if done right you will have some pretty good tasting smoke (flavour gets better with age). If done wrong you can flush all your time and hard work down the toilet. Probably the single most important process of your whole growing experience so do your homework and get your jars cleaned and ready. Plenty of info out there on how to do this process correctly just go slow pay attention and good luck

Could have went another week, indicated by the brown fuzz sticking up, but still looks dank
I've still only cut down the first cola now. I was going for a 48 hr dark period before the next chop, so I can still turn the lights back on.

The one I cut down was the tallest by far (I super cropped the rest). Being so close to the light, one leaf had started to get an amber twinge to it so I wanted to get at least that one down. I wouldn't have any issues keeping the rest going. Especially since I'm going for couch-lock lol

And thanks for the compliment :D I'm very happy with her

Little things make the harvest go well. Long dry, long cure.

A few harvest tips: Decent pruners and needle point scissors, powder free gloves, trim tray. Somewhere dark to hang your plant and something to hang it from, either whole or broken down into branches (depending on your climate. Im in spring so I hang the whole plant for a week then brake down into sections and hang on coat hangers for another week or so.). Air tight jars. Small hygrometers for the jars and Boveda packs for aging.

10/10 thank you!

I've got most of it already, and they will be drying the same tent they grew in (2x4x5). I've been keeping a log of the temp and rH. That's between 55%-65% with the temp hovering around 60F (15.5C). Has some weird spikes at night that I can't figure out (the hygrometer I have in the tent will record highs and lows), but aside from that whenever I check it's on point.

I checked the trics on more of the cola and they were looking extremely milky and most had noticeable amber. I've got two others in week 6 of veg that need attention though, so I decided to go ahead and chop her for the sake of quality control.

Thanks to everybody for all the help. Now the real fun begins lol

The first cola is drying nicely. I kept some sugar leaves on it to make sure it didn't dry too quickly. A few more days and they'll be ready to jar. The tent has had an rH between 57 and 63 (with random spikes in the low 70s...can't figure out why..they only last about twentyish minutes once or twice a day tops) and the temp is between 60F (15.5C) and 65F (18.3C).

Humidity spikes in the flower room? Would it be at lights off? If so its the plants transpiring. The lights not on so its not evaporating as fast as it would with the lights on.
