Day 1.1 Intro/Germination

Hey Guys.....This is my first grow and am looking forward to seeing what I learn through this process. It has been legal to grow in my state now for a bit and I don't know why it has taken me so long to get started!

I am gonna start with just one plant, the critical widow (CW), and see where I go from there. My medium will be coco and I plan on using some general hydroponics flora series and some cal mag (trying to stay simple here.) I will be growing in a 4'x2'x5' tent and using a marshydro 600w led.

I have a lot of thoughts on what I want to do with this guy, but at the end of the day I just really want to get a bud producing plant and see what I learn along the way. So I have an open mind and am open to any ideas or critiques or thoughts you may have.

Germination: Began tonight by soaking the seed in a glass of purified water. Once the seed cracks I will put it in a wet bounty towel inside of a zip-lock bag.

Definitely post your lighting for us!

Also, if I may be so forward. Let's get down to the dirty.

Total budget?
Stealthy or Serious about growing?

One lonely seed :(

I would like to stay under $500ish. I need to be stealthy. My end goal is to maybe rock two tents and roll out enough supply for some smoke for me and a few close friends. But I really want to try to focus on growing good quality genetics and learn how to turn it into good quality smoke, with yields being moderately important. At some point I would like to take my growing further, yes. Baby steps though. Can I be stealthy and serious?

500$?!

You are gonna get a pound per plant with that kinda money, if you are able to give it the space.

how much space we able to work with here? how much power bill can you raise?

Space is a bit of an issue and I can not raise the power bill significantly. It is my Dad's house and he passed away and I am fixing it up a bit and selling it. The electric bill is paid by the estate so I can't really go hog wild (at least with no guilt, we are not wealthy). But once the house is sold I will be moving and than have a better idea. For the time being there will be people coming and going, but I got this one 2x4x5 tent. I can probably, with some work, stealthy fit 2 more spaces (i am thinking a 3x3 and maybe something a touch bigger.).

Because it is legal here I have not problem discretely growing trees. However, because it is legal here and because I will have people coming and going I would like to keep it to the legal limits, which is 6 plants.

Grow 2 plants, both in 7 gallon pots. Grow them to 12" then top them, take the new growth and bend them sideways to make all nodes into new tops. Once ur branches cover half of r tent, flip it to 12/12, give it 200w-400w of light. ceramic or LED is ur best bet with a 4-6" exhaust inline fan at least 240, preferably 360cfm+ on it, expect half a pound+ every 3-4 months

i would want a new internode every 1/4 inch -1/2" (sorry dont know metric), if they arent coming along that often, look into Fimming. Fim the node at the end and u will have many more nodes appear more often.

Unless you've got fem seeds, you'll need more than double what you plan to keep. If you want two plants, I'd sprout at least 6 seeds. Keep the best females. Start thinking about controlling smell now. My plants started smelling beautiful at 3 weeks, not just the grow room, either. The whole house.

Oh, I've got a carbon filter now. The point I failed to make is that it can come on fast. I wasn't expecting it until flowering. It's a big expense, too. I think I've got about $450 into ventilation/filtration.

Fem seeds sir.

So we got these little guys to germinate using the ole' paper towel trick

. put 'em in some coco and are chillin' under some clamp lights(6500k cfls) watered with PH @ 5.8.

Also should add that I decided to germinate and plant a White Widow to go along side the Critical Widow.

Congratulations on the taproot!

I personally would have grown that taproot a bit longer, but hey that's just my preference. You made sure to point the taproot straight down into the dirt right? Not trying to insult your intelligence I just dont remember how experienced you are.

Most of the time you would be correct to insult my intelligence. However, on this occasion, I think i did the right thing. Tap root down. Barely under the coco.

I hear ya about growing the tap root a bit longer, I am inpatient and didn't like looking at paper towels. If I screw it up, there will be more seeds and new grows and hopefully the sun will come up in the morning and set in the evening. I hope.

keep an eye on the seed, I find that if u bury it too shallow in coco the taproot growing will actually push the seed out of the coco. If the taproot gets exposed underneath the grow lights, the seed is dead. You will probably have to rebury it under coco tomorrow. Keep a very close eye on it, make that taproot go down into the coco until its offshoots anchor it down. Thats the big risk you ran by planting it a tad early.

you are still OK though. Still hope for monster buds.

Sidebar- Is that 100% coco in that pot? or did you add perlite or vermiculite?

I don' use gwe. NVR have. That site doesn't make or break you as a grower.

You definitely need to add perlite or something to help with drainage. And that tap root was just fine that. People plant seeds straight to dirt with no crack or taproot.
