hey everybody, this is my 1st post n i have been following hydro n advanced cultivation a great deal. now's the time to call on the pros out there for some advice.
i've got a 3x3x7 sealed up area of my closet all done up. im using clfs right now on the account that my 600w hps burn's up the area. my hood for my hps is a HYDROFARM hood that is missing the glass cover.
what i wanted to know is do i need a specially treated glass cover(tempered) or can i use simple lexan or plexiglass. Should i just downgrade to 400w?
Thanks for the help brothers

You NEED a tempered piece of glass. Go to your hydro store (or one that sells HydroFarm stuff) my hood didn't have glass either, but the local HS had it in stock.

You have what...63 sqft of grow chamber, so get a blower that will move some air, intake from outside, exhaust to outside, seal your hood and blow the hot air from that outside too. You can't move too much air!!!
:peace:

2 pc fans per bulb, one blowing the other sucking, all hotwired into the biggest 12v transformer u got...fans run between .12 and .2 milliamps and if your lucky you got one in your cupboard rated at 1000ma...BINGO everything cool for no pennies...garage/boot sales always good for old trannys

i have a big ass box fan blowing the hot air out the grow area...On level 1 the temps are 87-89...level 2 is 83-85

sounds like you need another fan blowing cool air in at the opposite end to where u suckout...

dude its all about blowing air over your bulb and sucking it out the other end....check my pics....my plants are only 3-4 inches from my hps with no burn....i suck cool air in and a fan blows it immediately over both bulbs towards my out...i got 2 ballasts in the room too and im runnin at 73 degrees currently...i really swear by pc case fans, you got to keep the air movin 24/7 in your room and they are sooooo quiet and sooo cheap to run

Thanks everybody, i figured i needed tempered glass but i wanted to see if could get away with a cheaper alternative. so i get it now... i need two fans for the light and another two fans for air and temp circulation..... I LOVE THIS SITE

u can use one exhaust for the light, one exhaust for the room and one intake fan for air circulation but the more fans the better just dont overkill

im trying to build somewhat of a custom DIY cooltuibe.
its for my 150 hps and i have a few quetiosn.

i want to make a box to keep the light in. i would ventilate it with an exaust and/or intake fan and there would be a plexiglass or other glass bottome so the light can be covered and put closer to the plants.

is it possible to get away with using plexiglass for the 150 or is this not a good idea?
how big of a fan should i use to vent a 150 watt hps? would a 100-130 cfm be enough?

i would appreciate some recomendations/comments/helpful advice..

as plexiglass heats it will soften and sag. they do make plexi thats suitable for higher temps. either look into that or use glass

Its much easier to cool the light than the room, you need to move more air to cool the room..

My set-up is a little different. I use a 4" 120cfm duct booster behind the light for exhaust. It vents straight outside through a window. The second fan is a 4 inch deal that looks like a computer fan but is 110v Its rating is actually 110 cfm but its close enough. I got two of them online. They are made by Orion fans, Model number QA109AP-11-1 TB

I think two of those might cool your light, it works for a 400w in a 18'x36" cabinet..

im sure you can use just the 1 exhaust fan just have to get a T piece fitting have your light exhaust on 1 end and the carbon filter and fan on the other end if you know what i mean??

What are your ambient temperature and are your plants showing any signs of discoloration?

For future reference, you will want to create your own thread. See https://www.rollitup.org/faq.php . This post was almost 2 years old, and dead. You will get much better results from starting a new post.

I'm just trying to help, hopefully I didn't come off rude, it was not my intention. :joint:
