hello new here

about to set up a new grow after taking a few years off. I intend to stick with hempy as that is where I have found my most success but it seems I can't locate the nutrients I used a few years ago

can someone give me some recommendations on good nutrients? I use to buy in a 3 pack that served all three stages of the plants life and would buy cal mag etc on the side but now I am unsure of the best to try

thanks for your time

If I am reading it right, I would not reuse the liquid once it has passed thru the coco, have had issues with that before.

Osmocote plus outdoor/indoor 15-9-12. apply directly to medium at beginning of grow; assess needs when you flip to flower and reapply by top-dressing. Temperature dependent release; below 65 degrees or so and rate of release slows down significantly.

I have been pondering the same Franken-Bucket myself crossing a Hempy with DWC (this will be my 2nd run first was dwc 13 zips dry with a 600w and 4x4tent) seems to me there isn't a whole lot going around about it this way other than Scotty from the Dude Grows Show and a few other stragglers but this ver i think is solid because if you under estimate and something goes wrong, you don't have to use the bottom feeder or the airline hose at all and just revert back to normal Hempy mode. I dont expect to be running airlines all the time but its a nice feature to have. Anyone running a Hempy like this or any ver that have any advice for me?
My version is
Hydroton on Bottom
Coco inbetween then more Hydroton on top.
Bottom feeding pvc + airline and Stones at bottom for when needed.

Not sure to whom your post is directed, but that looks like an interesting hybrid. seems more dwc than hempy though--what's the part that you see as hempyish?

be easy,

Seems to be a very well known way to run that I originally remember hearing last feb when I was on my 1st ever run at 43 yo in a 4x4 tent DWC 600w listening to the dude grows show, scotty runs them. I did ok on first run. 12 oz dry 4 plants now im trying coco hempy bucket 5 gals bottome feeding tube with Hydroton rocks and air hookup option on the bottom instead of perlite. Sprinkled perlite on top dont like the discoloring at all. So far so good but i ordered 3 5 gal maxx yield air pots on ebay for $30 so i think that is interesting.

I'm doing a coco/perlite hempy mix,

If I plan to veg for 2 months, what size bucket should I use? I have 2.5 gallons and 5 gallon buckets on hand

Happy New Years Hempy Fans!!!
My 2016 was a total disaster with only one plant finishing. I'm hoping for better results for 2017.
Here's the total result of my 2016, Purple Heroin which was very sick but finished, low yield but the smoke was way above average.

After a bunch of cleaning and many new components I'm hoping for a better grow. Current grow is 2 Purple Heroins that are clones that were taken in late sept from my friends outdoor grow, the plants were 7 to 8 wks into flower and I had little hope they would root but they did, then they just kind of set in park for almost a month while they went back into veg stage.
The other pair are Bay 11 hermie fem seeds. They aren't from the hermie plant so we'll see what happens.

Hey Watt. We have seen your better efforts bro. Those new
plants look super vegged....they ought to rock.

I had a mite battle over the summer that might be trying to linger.
We will see when things heat back up.

Good luck!

Well everything is still growing with no sign of the death disease. The one Bay 11 closest to the heater has shown some signs of wilt on the side facing the heater. tweaked the air flow in the room a bit and it's looking better now. I had flipped the lights just prior to the previous post, but didn't get it right, I left the last 45 min of the 16hr lights on period in the run position :wall:. So 11 hrs on 4 1/4 off 3/4 hr on then 8 off will leave the plant in the veg mode. Therefore if you want to save some $ on your electric you can veg with just 12 hrs of lights on. It's tested and proven.
Here's the update, day 19 of real 10.5 / 11.5 this was middle of last wk.

I am struggling getting runoff out of my hempys. The coco seems to hold the water so well that it will not get to bottom for like 30 minutes so I either just have to go by weight and not worry about run off or wait forever to see if I get runoff then add more water and wait again which just takes to long. I almost like the idea of a bottom feed to do bottom and top feeding. Add to bottom first to get runnof then add whatever to top as well. May have to do that next time.
I did get oil drain pans for $3 which work well for 5 gallon buckets. I also realized that bottom portion should be painted to prevent light from getting thru:

I just did the same thing. I found oil pans at the dollar store, way better than flimsy crap at garden center. I just set up coco hempys too. I was thinking of watering each at 2x reservoir capacity every 4 days and working down to every 3rd or second. I am thinking with hempys you need to measure input vs output

Measuring input vs output is more work. It already takes me way to long to water as it is.

My oil drain pans:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/FloTool-Heavy-Duty-Oil-Lube-and-Drain-Pan-7qt/16911596
cannot hold a gallon of extra water with the 5g buckets in them which is why I cannot just dump a ton of water in them along with I dont want to waste more than I need to.

I had planned to build a shelf to have plants on, then I could setup a drainage system but did not get to that yet. I had also thought of putting legs on the bottom of the buckets to elevate out of tray which would allow more room for drainage water.

Currently the oil drain pans can maybe hold a quart or two which is fine so long as I am there to vacuum it out once it starts. But adding 2 gallons seems excessive unless they are like empty empty which they are not after 4 days.

With COB LEDs I do not get the heat and evaporation that an HID setup might create. All my plants are also using different amounts each time. Along with that I have a hard time getting in there to water them to begin with. I changed the setup of the room, cut the light in half so I can now move around but it is still really tight and have to use a funnel with a tube to get to the back ones.

I may go in there next time with a scale and weigh each one and water until drain to get better idea of the weight needed. I had always thought some sort of cheap load cell or scale under each would be cool but obviously would not work.

See i am thinking 2gallons each is about right. This is howi have mine setup. I have some smaller white bins i can use for individual collection from the dollar store. Or just cut off recycling plastic to corect height. I cut the holes smaller than my tubing until it was a bitch to put in.
