Damn man... I missed your bday. Hope it was good. :) Plants are looking nice. $250, that will be an adventure lol. Me and my buddy did a super cheap grow... used wardrobe boxes from home depot. They are extra strong and have a bar at the top you can hang the light on. Might be worth checking out.

Happy Birthday!
No worries mane. It's just another day for me. Usually I have terrible luck on my bday, yesterday was no different. Just different form. Today was solid though. I'm trying to plan to have a few old friends get together in a week or so. That's what I'm gonna to consider my bday. hahah. I feel like I'm rescheduling that shit.

That's a good look on the wardrobe boxes. I didn't even think of that. I'm trying to think how much cooling he is really going to need with a few CFLs or a 250 HPS. I wouldn't think it would be much but in a tight space. I'll get it sketched out. I told him he needs to figure out where he's putting it first.....hahaha.

I'm gonna go snap some pics, maybe I'll get em up tonight, if not tomorrow morning.

I like the progress so far but I feel like because of the size of the T5 footprint I'm getting a little stretching between the nodes. I'm getting kinda anxious to just take a couple of the smaller ones out and take the T5 out as well so I can flip on the HPS. Then let those little ones sit under the T5 as either back-ups or one(s) I give to my friend. Patience should and probably will prevail though. I keep rotating the smaller ones directly under the light and the large ones on the perimeter as they can bend to the light easier. I also realize this also may be why I'm getting the stretching mentioned previously. They are starting to like more frequent and larger quantities of water & nutes for that matter.

The Deep Psychosis is kinda disappointing me atm just because collectively it's noticeably behind the other strains. The Sour Cherry and Qrazy Quake are putting work in. I can only imagine what's going to happen once the HPS comes to play in the garden. hahahah.

I feel like I spend more time with my plants than I do going out and meeting new people (I did just move to a new city and don't have but a handful of people I know). Well enough with that shit....on with the showwwww. Now presenting the stars of the showwwwowowwowwwwwww....

I kinda figured that might be the cause of it. But didn't want to assume anything being this is my first time out. Now I just need to do some research on the main-lining thread to see when to my first crop/prune.

It's been a minutes since I've your name around here man. How you been?

coco, 600w cooltube and breeders boutique strains, we have a lot in common.

i'm subbed to see how you do, multi straining on a first grow can be tough, if you get this right you can do anything.

how long do you plan to veg them?

are you going to clone them before you flower?

Good to have you aboard. arrrrgggg. hahah. I haven't really slept yet, please excuse the terrible humor.

I have always been of the school of thought to challenge yourself. So multi-straining seemed like a good way to test that. I think I'll be fine if I just "listen" to my plants. I haven't really set a specific amount of time I plan to veg em but if I had to guess I'd say another month. It also has a lot to do with wanting to try main-lining as well. Whether or not I do is up for negotiation (between me and myself...hah). If not I would say two weeks under the HPS then flip. I'm at a crossroads on when to take clones. I would ideally like to not have to keep 20 fucking clones around if half are going to be male. I know I can take the clones in flower after they show sex but I'm not sure what all the cons are in doing that. So I guess you could say I'm just winging it sorta with mild thought sprinkled in. hahah.

here is what i would do, please bear in mind you are your own person lol.

let them get around 12" tall, then cut the top off each one, keep that as a clone and label them. flower sooner rather than later, you will be shocked how much some strains stretch when grown from seed, there is always one or two that end up too tall and they take up all the light. you can always prop the small ones up on upturned buckets/pots to keep an even canopy.

also i would have that hps burning now, they can handle it and will simply grow a lot faster.

you really don't have enough room to mainline your plants in that tent, it will be over crowded and will encourage pm and budrot in late flower.
always have the taller plants at the outside and the smaller ones inside (it seems like you already have judging by the pics).

you are doing good so far, keep it up.

Yeah watching the baby is getting more fun and more demanding, shell be 17 months on the 21st. The cons on taking clones in flower is that it takes up to 6 weeks for the cuts to revert back into veg and start growing normally.

Buddy you're about the have your hands full. Kids are more fun as you feel like they can begin to understand you more. They grow up fast too mane.
That bit about the flower clones seems familiar now that you say it west. Maybe I just said fuck it when reading it because I was going to have to wait until the tent freed up some space anyways. idk. shit. the logic ceases to come to me now.

That actually makes more sense this go around now that I really think about it. I have too many plants of an undetermined sex to be trying to mainline in the tent. So I'm with you on that note. Next go around I only plan on running 4 at a time. Okay maybe 5 but you get the idea...hah. The HPS not being on had mostly to do with my schedule for work and the schedule the lights come on at. I didn't want to be botch the dark period. Now that the weekend is here I will probably switch it over after the lights go out. You're right I have already been keeping the larger ones on the outsides. I always thought you were supposed to take clones from the lowest branches? Thanks for the tips.

So what you're saying is I'm not doing too bad for a rookie.....hahah.

i always use the tops as clones, with side branches they grow in a u shape so when they root you will have clones that have a lean on them before it's even got a bud on.

i was saying you are doing good so far, rookie or not. you have a long way to go with this grow though, stay on it.

so are you running a cooltube with no reflector and are you going to have the plants growing around them or are you just gonna do a regular horizontal set-up?

you should look at dst's thread if you are planning a vertical grow you will learn a lot off him.

Do you usually put the clones directly into coco with or without rooting gel? I don't have rooting hormone/gel so that's why I was thinking of taking the lower branchs (as I was under the impression that contained a greater amount of hormones). Thanks for saying so. I know I got a ways to go. It's just good to know I'm on track, ya know? I'm going to be running, starting 3 pm today or tomorrow (I have family coming to town today), a vertical cooltube with no reflector.

Do you know the name of DST's thread?

i use root riot plugs (rapid rooters) and clonex gel, never tried any other way so can't say wether it would work or not, the main thing is to be patient and leave them alone, i think you would need a propagator to keep the humidty up too.

it's a long read mate but there is a lot in there to show you how to make the most of your space.

honestly speaking i don't think it is efficient to only run one light in a vertical set up, you want to make the most of the height in your growspace, that is the whole idea of vert growing.

when you are growing around the bulb you are missing a large space where you could have plants you only make up for this lost space when you have 2 or more layers of plants.

Thanks for the link. I really don't mind the long read. I'm sure I can learn some tips on space utilization. This grow for me is kinda a jump off point from what I'd like to do, but keeping within the tent that I have. My basic idea is to have plants around the perimeter with the HPS dropped in the middle. Surrounding the light would be a screen (welded wire fence). I want to make sure I keep the plants far enough back from the cooltube so they don't get burned. I'll tweak the original idea I have a dozen times before I actually figure out the most efficient use of the space (hah). The tent isn't all that large (31" x 31" x 71"H) and I have to deal with a heat issue as well. The height is probably the only inefficient use of the space I will have. Not to say that's a good thing but like I said I'll make tweaks to it here and there as needed. I really do appreciate the tips man and the pointing out of possible/realized flaws in my idea. It helps me create a better grow. That's why I like some of the people on here. Helpful and knowledgable.

I was reading up a week or so ago about how some people don't use any cloning gel. Just water the coco well with really mild nutes, or use coco pucks. There reported success with it, but I think I may try a couple different ways just to see what provides the easiest and best result. I feel like I'm doing a lot of feeling out on what may/maynot work best for my situation on this grow. I have a heating pad that I used to propagate the seeds with. Used a couple of wash clothes because the heating pad got a bit hot on its own. I have a dome but I dont think it will fit clones so I may need to modify something for the clones. or buy new is always an option.

Have you checked out my Grow 2 in my sig. That was a fun one and might give you an idea or two. And yeah man DST has some good stuff buried in that thread.

EDIT: And put a link to your journal in your sig bro. Peeps will be able to find it easier.

I got it added to my sig. I think. I guess I'm about to find out. hah. The plants are looking good. I think tomorrow is the day to get the show on the road. Switch to HPS?

Well the decision has been made. I will be flipping the HPS on tomorrow. I'm going to remove a couple of the smaller ones and leave them under the T5. Maybe practice the main-lining on those. Gonna have to rearrange the plant setup to allow enough room for everything. I will also need to figure out my screen soon too. And top some of these bad boys (hopefully girls) soon and use them for clones. Labeling will be a must since I still have no idea on the sex of the plants.

Interestingly enough (on a personal note) my parents came to visit me and I showed them my setup. While the stigma of mj is still in their heads, they still thought my setup and me growing was kinda cool. It's nice to know I can be so open with them.

Well it's off to shoot some pool at the bar. Gotta get out in this new city to explore my options. I'm single after all. Here's some pics......fuck this numbering shit, I feel too lazy...hah
