i run mine vacpump on a continuous vac with a griddle at 135 which makes the bottom of my chamber right at 130 (which is the magic number), i have left it for 36hours on some strains , my better stuff only takes 4 to 12 hours, but i run the shit out of my pumps, get the warranty at HF it is worth it.

oh and nice rig, i like the line work

since my last post I've come to realize that not all strains will wax up. the lower the quality of the starting material the less likely waxing is to occur. all strains can be extracted into shatter however.
not true.

I used a half oz of very very shitty bud... waxes up in like 1.5 days.

then I made oil with 7g of kief and 7g of nice bud.. took a week at 110F to wax up.

Ceramic heating tiles work great for this.

Another trick...

Use sand as your heat conductor, fuck water, water and oil do not like one another.

The introduction of steam is detrimental to the extraction.

Get a deep dish griddle and a bag of” reptile sand”(it conducts heat very well)
Empty sand into griddle, and bury your chamber into the sand., pack sand all around your chamber.
Do not start pulling vac until your oil temp is around 110°
Do not exceed 135°*important*

Edit: one could also use a heat gun or hair dryer, to reduce viscosity for vacuum refining

how would water/steam effect oil thats in an air tight chamber???

I can understand when youre purging the butane... but while vacuuming too????

My 2.5 Cfm single stage vacuum pump maxes out at 28.5 hg (I'm barely above sea level). Is this high enough to achieve honeycomb? I keep my oil temp around 115 f.

yes it is enough. it will just take longer.. possibly upwards or 3 or more days if you want it really dry wax. not that a full vacuum would be any faster, but sounds like youre pulling a 98% vacuum or so which is plenty for BHO, especially at 115F. any higher temp at that vacuum and the THC starts to boil of... at a 99.9% vacuum THC boils off at something crazy low like 10 or 15F!!!

what if you run it at lower temps will it still wax up like 93 degrees

I think so, it will just take foreverrrr.

I think normal temps without heat average around 80F, and I think ive waxed oils up before with no added heat... just set it and forget it.

the color and flavor seem nicer at lower temps but yeah forever is an understatement

once the edges start to wax, which takes forever, the center should follow fairly shortly after... 4 or up to 12 hours roughly depending on amount of oil, vacuum pressure, heat, strain, amount of butane used, etc..

but pay attention to the edges, they will start first. once the center waxes, its pretty much done and wont dry up much more than that.

I wouldnt say its anything significant... reminds me of stopping to fuel up on a long drive.. same concept. takes a little while to get back up to speed (full vacuum) plus the time wasted spent with no vacuum, otherwise once youre at full vac, within 5 or 10 mins it should be the same conditions as before you cracked it I would think.

not the answer i was looking for. This has taken me to a new level of patience i never knew i had. I have 4 kids and a wife of 21 years thought i had that patience thing down

no I dont think it depends on the amount of butane. there is so many variables. ive had wax up in 8 hours, also had it take 8 days, literally.

what answer were you looking for, I basically said that opening the chamber to check barely effects it or adds onto the time lol.

why do you want wax so bad? its hard to handle on the dabber, takes days and days and days, and tastes like shit.

I would stop at a nice, easy to work with, tasty shatter that is fully purged and call it done. or winterize it for a super shatter :)

bump the heat up 10 degrees and watch the edges, they eventually will start drying and waxing. is your oil even active (ie: moving and bubbling still) or is it thick and rock solid in the chamber?

heres a bunch of wax shots in sequence that might help you out a little bit.

that response was to the jury is still out but no not moving and it's closer to the middle where it first started waxing still oily looking but hasn't moved in quite a while but i'm at hour 48 1/2 and now starting to see changes more and more. I do keep it shatter for me but people seem to want wax don't ask me the shatter i make is fully touchable sits on my desk for days never changes I love it but I'm new to the making of hash so just trying to understand and make the best product that people desire
