Good stuff! Kind of depressing but John Oliver was pretty much spot on. .An article that I read that discussed the outrages of the public forfeiture laws quoted one Florida officer as saying that the reason they stopped and searched cars that were driving the speed limit was because "it indicated that the driver has something to hide". Then they would confiscate cars, money and property of these people -- a high percentage of whom where black. The public forfeiture laws are one outcome of the war on drugs. Other effects of the war on drugs are corruption, illegal stops and searches, the list goes on and on. We've got to get rid of these laws and we've got to get rid of our ridiculous war on drugs.
The protests that started in Ferguson and NY over police brutality, I think are only beginning. We've got turn out in numbers to shake the establishment up and give visibility to the issue before there will be any changes. Turn out to support the non-violent protesters
And agree -- the scumbag officers that beat, steal or lie about it to cover up for another officer -- lock em up and and throw the key away.
