with regardfs to growing in a hempy bucket outdoors, can you use normal organic soil nutes such as fish emulsion?

how long does the taproot take to get down to the bottom of say a 10 gallon container if started as seed in the medium? so basically how long does it take before you dont have to water daily

yes you can use fish emulsion...i would suggest starting the plant ina smaller container then transplanting into the 10gal...outdoors it would be awhile befor you wouldn't have to water daily....peace az

Someone needs to put this in the DIY and the newbie section. THIS is the best way for a first timer, people keep saying DWC but you have to stay on top of that. And no pumps or anything , i wish i would have seen this post sooner!
Same here! I'm doing DWC after being a strict Ebb&Flo grower, I hoped for high yield and ease of use. But here on my first day of flowering, I am running into PH issues and cursing the whole process.

I have several clones that will be ready in a day or two, so now instead of starting another DWC tub of clones in my flower room; I'm going to give Hempy Buckets a go.

sounds like a go...what size buckets to you plan on using...peace az
Hey Az,
I finally finished reading the whole thread and I know I will be paying for it tomorrow, sure I will be yawning all day at work... LOL

I have loads of buckets in varying sizes from past hydro projects, good thing I never throw anything away.

Currently I am doing DWC in 3 gal and 5 gal buckets, I like growing monster plants – normally 4 - 5 feet or more in height, so I thought I would start with the 3 gal size and see how that goes.

So far I have only a couple of questions ( I’m sure more will follow )

Currently I germinate and clone in rockwool cubes and wondered if I should change that medium? If rockwool is okay, I may switch over my current setup since I'm only just starting day 2 of flowering. I have actually been thinking of switching to Oasis cubes. Or would Jiffy cubes be better?

Thanks so much for starting this thread!!!

WWW you wont be sorry..I took 4 seedlings out of my AG and put them in HB's and they are looking great and i dont know what sam is talking about with the cons I am not very far into it, but I dont use anymore nutes than I would if I were topping of a dwc or other hydro setup, and my maintanance is nothing I water once a day takes 5 minutes.... I have a dwc going now also and I spend a hell of alot more time messin with it......

if you plan on going organic with this with the fish poo... i'd recommend making teas before watering... organic nutes aren't *immediately*availible to plants like hyrdo nutes are... it takes a system of beneficial bacteria to convert the organic material into the raw N P K and micronutes that plants need...

if you do plan to do some organics... have a resevoir, an air pump and bubble stone, and bubble your nute tank for atleast 24 hours before applying to medium... fish poo stinks, so 1 tblsp of molasses really helps cut back on the smell... as well as providing micro nutes for your plants and carbs for that micro heard of bacteria i already mentioned, they eat the shit up and multiply.... so also look into mychorrizae innoculations.... some fulvic and humic acids are also important to increase the proficiency of the nutes you'll be using...

best of luck

yeah I have found that I have to water everyday too but eh Im always messin in my garden so its no big deal to me to water everyday and to me I have found a new freedom....not having to worry about when to water...just do it til i have a bit of runoff and thats it....takes the management out of it when your 1 person managing multiple cycles of life...

i just wanted to add to this... another reason you MUST bubble your water and WAIT atleast 24 hours before adding your organics to TAP water (disregard this if using RO water or anything that isn't chlorinated... i.e. rainwater) this will allow for enough of the chlorine to evaporate off...

otherwise the chlorine will kill those beneficial bacteria and thus make your organic feeding much less effective...

you must also stay away from H202... as it will def. kill off all the bene's as well...

if i think of more i'll add it to this thread

How about combining Hempy and SOG, let's say a small size closet with 4 clones(I asume you have a mother plant), 2 weeks apart from each other on 1 gallon containers cutting off the botton 3rd of the branches flowering only main colas, it would be an 8" circle per plant and about 1/2 oz harvest per plant every two weeks......
I have a small cabinet wich I plan to use as a veg box for a mother plant and clones....
My girl and I smoke about 1oz every 2 months so I think it would be a good plan but.....what do you guys think?

I have a clone hempy style already and it's doing great so hempy grow it is.....all the way!!!!

I made a modified system based off hempy buckets.

Basically i am growing with a perlite/vercumlite mixture , in an actual gardening pot.( drainage holes and all)

I found that the medium drained so well i couldnt keep up. and my moisture metre wouldn't work in the medium for some reason.

So i put the pot in a larger bucket type thing and when i water i keep watering till it drains out holes and into bucket and fills it up creating the same type resovoir as a hempy bucket.

Must admit though i thought of this before reading about hempy buckets. But next grow i will be doing it the hempy way from the start.

My plant was suffering due to the underwatering , but after i did this she bounced back like scoliosis.
