ok im at page 6 and you might have answered these already but i dont want to forget... hehe

can you reuse the perlite? and if you can do YOU reuse it?

can you show us a pic of what the roots look like after the harvest. it seems odd that they can take that many days of stagnant water.

thanks again for the great info AZ, peace

you CAN use the perlite over
i'd suggest sterilizing it first just to make sure you aren't spreading any harmful pathogens... soak it h202 mix or something to do the trick for you...

next time i transplant in smaller cups i'll try to remember to take a pic... and we're chopping a plant on friday so i'll try to get pics of a flowered plants root system:blsmoke:

ya, a root pic would be great.
its amazing how the roots can still absorb oxygen in the res and not get waterlogged.
when you water your system how do you know when to water?
b4 you water, you still want some solution to be in the res right?
when i water, can i pour it down in one spot? or should i try and pour it all over the top, to try and distribute the water over a lager area????
when you heavy feed, do you know how many ppms you are using, and when your using plain water you are phing it?

instead of making one big hole, could i make a bunch of smaller holes, so the
perlite wont fall through on. this way i wouldnt have to put a screen there.
also does the bigger hole on the bigger containers serve any other purpose other than draining water? could you use a bunch of 1/8" holes on a, idk say 10 gal containter?

sorry for the silly questions. your results seem to be amazing with the HB system. im so glad i learned about it.

you guys are great btw!!! i was going to rep you both, but i need to spread some love around.

peace out :blsmoke:

tard i can answer those questions in regard to my own op... not even me and az do it the same so know there can be all sorts of variations...

i know when to water by lifting my containers and judge by their weight... too light and they need watering... decent weight they can go another day... heavy they can go 2 more days...

tbh, i'm not sure quite how much water is left when i water... you want to get around to it before all the water comletely dreis cuz your plants will start drooping like crazy and stop growing....

i generally try to cover as much perlite as i can when watering... but if i'm in a hurry i'll just do it quickly in one spot... perlites wicking properties will help disperse water and get to even the top of the perlite as long as the res is big enough...

i've never once checked my ppm or ph.... =]=]=] if you're having problems though, that might be a good place to check...

the holes must be big enough to not get clogged by perlite... i've had that happen... and the water wasn't able to drain, basically just drowing my plants in a cup of water... haha... but a pencil sized hole usually does me good...

your questions aren't silly...

your questions aren't silly...
thanks bro, for the answers.
the reason why i say they are silly is because to an experienced hand(you guys) they are common knowledge/no brainer, but to a noob on the subject(me) they are not.

ill rep you guys as soon as i RIU will let me :D

do you have a grow thread i can read we tard?
naw, not right now. im better at telling ppl how to grow than actually growing myself(ive done a lot of reading about MJ, but still plenty to learn)... hehe

im growing under a 400w hps with 10 girls ATM. i have some WW, ice, and thai sativa. right now im having problems with my soilless mix with compaction problems- its getting pretty hard :(. they are growing in 2 gal grow bags.

im about 60 days into 12/12 and the plants are really coating on the trichs and are looking and smelling real nice. im going to give the WW and ice another week or so to let the seeds(im doing a little breeding:hump:) get "overly" mature- plus my trichs are ~60% clear ~30% cloudy and ~10% amber so they can go a little longer.

i have some clones that i took about 2 weeks into flowering and they are still kinda reverting back to vegg- getting better though. the sativa clones i took never really went into flower so they are outgrowing the others.
the reason why i took clones 2 weeks into flower is because the clones i took prior all got stem rot and died from an overly moist soilless mix medium- wont do that again.

sorry for the hijack, but thats my 411 on growing ATM.

Can't you just kind of knead the grow bags to loosen up the mix? Or will that mess with the roots too much? sorry, double hijack:mrgreen:

I have one plant in hempy going right now and six in a high perlite/soil mix. The hempy is a couple of weeks behind the others, I'm waiting for the roots to hit the bottom of a twenty ounce cup and hope it'll really take off. Then I'll be putting it into a 3 gallon all perlite bucket. I'm really excited to be experimenting while doing something more traditional at the same time. Usually I go all mad scientist with everything and the watch the train go off the tracks with mild horror! I love that hempy takes the anxiety out of watering though. Just look for a little dribble lol.

with the grow bags... yeah if you knead the dirt/rootball it'll pull all the smaller roots apart and set back your plant a few days or week or so... if not completlely killing it...

not quite... more like:

make worse or make worser:blsmoke::joint:
exactly! thats what i figured also. best to leave it alone.

have you guys checked out natmoons "airbasket plant" with the air pump hooked up underneath his soil in a sponge? he said that he almost eliminated soil (in my case it would be soilless mix) compaction. his airbasket plant is huge for being under a 400watter.

Im not following this too good I guess. I saw the first pictures that didnt really make sens then a few others that basically show a fllod setup using perlite instead of hydroton to surround the pot or buckets? whats the difference bewteen this and a regular fllod table with pots then filled with hydroton ?

what didn't make sense the pics with the buckets showing where the hole goes then shots of plants from that bucket..or the pics from the buckets that are bogged ontop of each other..with still the hole cut in the side of the bottem....the first container is the veg container the second is the flower..its just one of many ways to use theis system...again very very user specfic...peace az

Just wasnt much info just liek3 giant pics at different stages??
