so a detective called my phone

Keep having reasons not to talk to him. NEVER SHOW UP TO THE POLICE STATION TO TALK OR THEY'LL SAY YOU CAME AT YOUR OWN WILL AND TURNED YOURSELF IN. FK THEM. MY BEST FRIEND GOT OFF A CASE WHEN EVERY1 ELSE GOT TIME SIMPLY CAUSE HE WASNT HOME WHEN THEY RAIDED AND HE NEVER TURNED HIMSELF IN. THEY COULDNT PUT EVIDENCE ON HIM AND DIDDNT HAVE HIM TO TALK TO IN PERSON SO THEY DROPPED IT
The in-person thing...exactly, if they take the time to call you, chances are you are not a prime suspect in some Hoover-esque plot.

Sorry for getting it right folks.

And I will just put you in the crowd of people that think a detective is going to take the time to call you and discuss your grow op. Seriously folks, no law enforcement is going to call you if they are going to bust you...get fucking smart. If you are going to get busted, do you really think they would call you and warn you? It doesnt help to be paranoid when you are just being stupid by avoiding the detective, do you really want them to come looking for you? Wake up. Get real. Stop thinking like a criminal.

If they wanted to bring you in they will, simple. They are not going to call you.
You boggle my mind and don't know shit. A cop would bother to call precisely because he doesn't have enough to bust you on. It might not even be about a grow op, he could think you are involved in something completely unrelated. His calling, or showing up at your door, or ANY potential interaction between you and a cop CANNOT be good for you. You CANNOT use ANYTHING you say to the police as evidence for your case, it can ONLY be used against you. You have NO reason to talk to the cop, innocent or guilty. If you have exculpatory evidence for anything you actually are guilty of you saying it to the cop doesnt mean shit, it will stand on it's own merit after the fact.

I personally know a couple people in jail who would not be had they not talked to the detective. How did they end up in jail? THEIR FUCKING MOUTHS. They thought it would make them look guilty if they didn't talk to the cops. They got put away ONLY for evidence they gave up. Evidence they had no reason to give up. Evidence they voluntarily gave to the police by speaking with them, both via the phone and in person.

I highly suggest you watch the videos in my signature.

Dude...you are seriously fucking paranoid! Your friends werent smart enough to figure out when a cop is really fucking on to them...sorry they had to pay the price, that really fucking sucks. But for some of us we know that by the time a cop has your phone number you need to be really fucking careful. They weren't, plain and simple.

Once again you miss the point completely. It's not about being paranoid, its about taking a risk UNNECESSARILY. It was an unnecessary risk on their part, AND on the ops part. ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD CAN COME FROM TALKING WITH THE POLICE. In this specific case the cop would have moved on, or probed deeper to find out why the op called. Either way his alibi will stand on it's own merit after the fact. He doesn't need to prove anything to the cop.

On the off chance that they were calling about something unrelated, and the op didn't know, and they asked a simple innocent seeming question like where he was at some time, and he answers thinking he is clearing himself of something, but really he just placed himself in proximity to somewhere. Perhaps an unrelated crime happened where he was, and this placed him there. That scenario has happened many times before. Even a single incident of this nature EVER occurring should be enough to convince you that it is foolish to talk with the police, PERIOD.

I don't understand how you can say "by the time a cop has your phone number you need to be really fucking careful" and simultaneously say it's paranoid to not voluntarily call the cops.

You are absolutely wrong dude, I don't even understand how this is a matter of debate anymore. You seriously need to watch the videos in my signature and brush up on your rights. You should have a lawyer call the police back to see what it's about.

Dude...the cop had a very minor interest in this guy. He was taking an unnecessary risk by avoiding him, that looks really fucking stupid for someone with nothing to hide - which is exactly the vibe you want emanating from you. Someone else here said it good when they said if someone in this game cant talk to the cops without incriminating themselves then they shouldnt be here in the first place - well I totally agree.

You are paranoid and if you are ever in Tweexican's shoes, you will probably make a bunch of brash decisions and give yourself an ulcer. Your whole defense is based off of fear dude. Just read what you are saying, you basically are setting yourself up to look like you have everything to hide if you have your attorney call back for you. You cant keep thinking "maybe its this, maybe its that, maybe I am fucked, oh my god I am done for..." In this instance the dude had absolutely nothing to worry about, and yet people here are basically telling him to enjoy prison, its fucked up and stupid to stress someone out like that. All i was trying to get across was the need to be reasonable.

Well I think you are an absolute fool. It's not a stupid risk, and it doesn't "look really fucking stupid for someone with nothing to hide", it looks "like someone exercising their constitutional rights". If you are innocent you have all the reasons in the world NOT to talk to the police. I feel like you still don't understand that anything you say CAN and WILL be used against you, NOTHING you say will be used FOR you. Legally it cannot be used for you, ONLY against you. Innocent or guilty you have absolutely no reason to talk to the police.

I hope for your sake you never have an encounter with the police and if you do I hope it goes well.

I hope everyone else will just avoid unnecessary encounters with the police in the first place before you stick your foot in your mouth, even accidentally. If you do speak with the police you should have an attorney present.

I also want to point out HE DID HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE. He is growing dope illegally for gods sake. Everything I said applies to innocent people with absolutely nothing to hide. The fact that he does have lots to hide is even more reason not to speak with police. No reason to chance anything when you do not have to.
