if u cant do the time, dont do the crime. i myself, when i had the cops wanting to talk to me, nomatter what i did or didnt do..im on my way to the station.screw making them wait. they have a job to do just like the rest of us. problems arise when u go against the law not when u help. ive lived this culture for 20 plus years have family in law enforcement, so i get to ask ?s all day if i want

Well... I finally talked to the detective. Turns out the office building of my neurosurgeon got broken into recently. I called a few offices trying to get in at 8PM (literally 20 min after they locked the doors) to pickup a prescription my doctor had left taped outside his office. Someone saw me trying to get in the doors and decided to call the cops the next day, thinking someone was trying to break in. My number came up and he wanted to know. I told him the story, he laughed, and said goodbye.

I will say, thank you to everyone who offered up advice. For those of you who just ASSUMED I was some loose lipped amateur, you shouldn't automatically assume things... The biggest reason I was freaking out, is cuz no one knows... no one knows... how could "THEY" know if no one nkows?

The truth? No one still knows. Well, except all you assholes. :) I can handle that.

as it turns out, the detective i guess WAS pretty lazy. he pretty much just assumed that i had nothing to do with the previous robbery. I will say that the building didn't get broken into... nor did they have any evidence that I did anything. I just told him to call my doctor and ask if I was a patient. Technically I had just as much right to be there as anyone else.

In hindsight it was a good idea to waive your rights and not error on the side of caution then. Too bad all those people in prison won't get to read the good wisdom in this thread of how it works out and is no big deal sometimes.

equipment for growing chillis and toms is no issue i'd say;) only one way to put your mind at rest, ignoring them will make you look guilty of nothing at all!
Me and my one friend always refer to bud as 'chillies' when in public or talking on the phone. And I grow chillies outside in a veg garden to make all my trips to the gardening shops look legit.

I second this guys notion...No for real though, don't do their job and call them back if you're worried. Like Red's said if you're busted, you're busted and don't help them make it easy...It won't help you in the end like they'll try to make you think...No plants, No worries.
Thats not true in many cases they will let you continue to do what your doing while building a case.

You pay a lawyer to call them back. It is your right, and does not in any way legally imply guilt. It does however show you are an American who Knows his constitutional rights and has his own officer defending them for him.

And I will just put you in the crowd of people that think a detective is going to take the time to call you and discuss your grow op. Seriously folks, no law enforcement is going to call you if they are going to bust you...get fucking smart. If you are going to get busted, do you really think they would call you and warn you? It doesnt help to be paranoid when you are just being stupid by avoiding the detective, do you really want them to come looking for you? Wake up. Get real. Stop thinking like a criminal.

If they wanted to bring you in they will, simple. They are not going to call you.

I know enough to know that officers are always going to be looking out for their own interest, or the interest of their station, whereas it is the duty of the citizen to ensure he looks out for his own interest. Its not that you are doing anything wrong. Its not that they want to arrest or punish you for anything, its that they can. Police use tactics to get you to incriminate yourself EVEN IF YOU DID NOTHING WRONG. An arrest looks good on their career, and it would benefit them personally to arrest you even if they knew you did nothing wrong. Now most police are very good human beings. Like I said its not because they are out to get you, its because they can ruin your life if they need to even if you have done nothing wrong they can in effect trick you into not protecting your own rights. In the end I dont think the random stranger in the city is going to rob me if I hand them my wallet, I think they are probly mostly good people who will hold it and hand it back while I bend over to tie my shoe, but at the same time, i'm not handing any stranger my wallet as I bend over to tie my shoe, no matter how much I believe they are good honest people. It is up to all of us to use what we can to reasonably protect and look out for our own goods (and eachother of course, but just don't expect it from others). Use a lawyer, ESPECIALLY if you are innocent, if police come to contact you. Here in hawaii they tresspass on our properties with helecopters in order to CHECK if anybody is breaking the law, kinda a "We own you and your property" mentality.

Keep having reasons not to talk to him. NEVER SHOW UP TO THE POLICE STATION TO TALK OR THEY'LL SAY YOU CAME AT YOUR OWN WILL AND TURNED YOURSELF IN. FK THEM. MY BEST FRIEND GOT OFF A CASE WHEN EVERY1 ELSE GOT TIME SIMPLY CAUSE HE WASNT HOME WHEN THEY RAIDED AND HE NEVER TURNED HIMSELF IN. THEY COULDNT PUT EVIDENCE ON HIM AND DIDDNT HAVE HIM TO TALK TO IN PERSON SO THEY DROPPED IT

apparently a detective called me two days ago saying "this number" is connected to an investigation he's doing. he wants to know who the number is from.

i go home, clean my house (all equipment still there) and now I don't know what to do.

he's left two messages so far. just says he wants to talk to me. im guessing, if i was under investigation, I'd be "visited" by now...

help?

But if a police officer does ask you questions and you have an idea of what its about it and you arn't doing anything wrong then by all means be polite and talk the guy, he's just a nice guy doing his job as best he can in almost all cases. BUT if at any time you feel uncomfortable or like they are getting at something you don't quite understand, immediatly explain in a nice manner that you need to talk to your attorney as you promised your grandparents or your college professor that if you didnt' know the answer you would do that to ensure you can assist them as best you can and that you don't understand law enough to continue talking. Be helpful, but dont be stupid and trusting of anyone in the street regardless of what they do for a living.

Put it this way, if that officer who called you was no longer a police officer and not in his home state and couldn't play the "i'm a cop too" card, then HE would be smart enough to respond to a phone call like that by calling an attorney. HE WOULD DO THAT TOO because he knows how much can go wrong even to the innocent just for making it easier to make a conviction.
