Good video. But YouTube isn a reputable source for me. However I can test my flower if I want to locally, and though it would be quite expensive. Fun project non the less.

I see where you’re coming from though, that’s larf you’re talking about, and that’s why plants need to be lollipoped imo. If you’re into making has and shit like that fly away and leave the sucker branches. But I only smoke joints pretty much and just want pure solid bud.
Exactly. I have all the evidence I need it’s worth it, so I’ll continue defoliating. Other dude who said “cool story” to me can do his own thing too. Who cares what others do?!

I've actually avoided commenting but this thread keeps popping up, so I'll give my 2 cents. It may be a bit all over but I'm baked :bigjoint:

I defoliate, but that's because I have to... I flower in an 80x80 cm tent under a scrog net and after trying 1, 2, 3 and 4 plants in there I found 4 gave my best yield and the shortest veg time.

Now, that's a lot of plants in that space. If I don't defoliate humidity goes through the roof, airflow is a nightmare, buds don't grow as vigorously, and my plants seem kinda sad. When I do defoliate em I have happy plants that produce nicely stacked dense buds.

Like I said, I've tried fewer plants and I didn't need to defoliate but this honestly gives me the best results. I'm not saying defoliation will magically increase yields, but it does have its uses and its place in the hobby

I’m kind of in the same boat. I did four plants in five gallon fabric pots on my first run and didn’t top nor start training until way later than recommended, so I ended up bending them over and running the tops along the perimeter of the pots and squeezing in branches wherever I could. It ended up bonsai-like and required constant defoliation to keep the lower buds from being completely covered in leaves. I got a good yield and zero larf, but they were in veg for a long time from the stress and overwatering. I ended up throwing one out from herming. I also got PM early on which made me start paying better attention to airflow, RH, etc.

I’m on my 2nd and 3rd runs and am topping and mainlining and removing lower growth after it’s evident the upper growth is thriving seems to be the best approach to avoid stunting, PM, etc. It’s been fun trying different methods on different plants to see what results I like. I was only in veg for like 40-50 days for run 2 and they’re beasts going into flower. It’s amazing at how much better I’m doing already. Love this hobby!

One thing I've picked up by reading threads like this one.

Newbies always talk about allowing light to get to the buds, by tucking the leaves below, or even removing the leaves. It's not like the plant knows what she is doing, right? Newbies know better! I guess that is what we call "bro-science."

Let me tell you, it's the leaf that needs the light. Then when the plant is finished with that leaf, it will die off. Maybe then the bud below it will need the direct light. You will get the best bud by growing a healthy plant, and not causing the plant any unnecessary stress. Every time we snip something, it causes stress, and the plant uses energy to repair itself. I want my plants to use their limited energy to produce fine bud.

Plants in general are in a slow motion war for canopy space. The buds are in a race for the sun and won't think twice about snuffing out a sister bud a branch over / under. Let alone a completely different plant. Most people here lollipop, which goes against "the plant knows better" argument.

Hmmm, I mentioned newbies and you respond.

You're correct, the war for canopy space is for the leaves.

So you master growers that never take a leaf off your plant only grow land race varieties outdoors then eh? I mean you wouldn't want to interfere in anyway in how nature intended. I mean, the plant knows best right?

And how come you only ever talk about light and never about rh, temps, plant per square foot or any of the other environmental impacts?

Ah well, I guess resistance to change is pretty common in your geriatric years ;)
