Grow #2, Searching for Gold
Hey Everybody
Starting my 2nd grow, super stoked about it. Some of you guys have been outstanding support, my 1st grow proved that. Well anyway, with the grow-fever and all, couldn't stand to wait any longer.....so here we go

Grow 2, searching for gold

Strain Selection:
I searched around seedbanks, forums, strain/grow/smoke reports and had one hell of a time trying to determine what strain to go with next. On my 1st grow I lost track of the 4 strains, white widow, carnival, big bud and kandahar, I germinated, but ended up w/6 feminized plants. I had a fairly good harvest for my first time out, but the bud does not vary that much in taste, smell and high. I thought I surely ended up w/2 strains, but some days, I think it's all of 1 strain. I germinated each strain 3 times with a possibility of 12 plants, ended up w/6 plants. Mathical odds are at least 2 strains out of 4 had to make it. Sooo I sent an email to the seedbank where I bought the seeds. They stated that during that time of the year, they had a troubled employee, he may have screwed w/my order. Well needless to say, I may have gotten screwed. I'm still working w/them on this matter, more about this later. BTW ordered Grow #2 seeds somewhere else.

Grow #2 feminized strain selection is:

Red Dragon, 90% sativa, 10% indica, 23% thc
Columbian Gold, 75% sativa, 25% indica, 20% thc
Critical Kali Mist, 80% sativa, 20% indica, 21% thc
Mazar x White Rhino, 60% indica, 40% sativa, 20% thc
Unknown feminized freebees

Note: Columbian Gold I plan to keep as a main strain, if I am successful in growing it. When I was in my early 20's I was able to buy an oz of it now and then, it ran $40 bucks for gold, compared to $20 bucks for regular weed, seeds, stems and all. When I got my hands on CG, all bud, no seeds, great taste and a great buzz.

Upgrades for Grow #2:

I found a false wall on the back side of my grow closet, I removed it. I picked up an extra foot in depth. Also because I use the large spiral CFLs w/clamp fixtures, I had built a wooden ribbing for the closet, now I can place my lights everywhere, up/down and around. I am installing 2 or 3 wall mount fixtues w/2 cfls each for my back wall. The entire closet interior will be lit, top, side, back and below. Photos in a few

Aero-Hydro upgrades:
Going with a little different grow-box set-up, each grow-box will hold 6 feminized plants, I'll be using 2 growboxes on this grow. The dimensions are 32 inches X 19 inches X 7 inches deep, painted flat black so light can not penatrate into the box. Each grow-box will have six 3 inch grow baskets.

Lighting upgrades:
Back wall-mount dual cfls, 2700 k range. Flowering stage plan to use up to 50% 6500k range, instead of 25% as I did on the 1st grow, I believe it helps fatten up those colas.

Grow procedure upgrade:
This grow I am going to prune away the undergrow. I want my gals to get all the nutes I can give-em, besides I ended w/alot of it on my first grow. I did not top my plants either on my 1st run, this time I will. I plan to re-generate my 2nd grow, see what comes of that as well. Have an area of 8ft x 10ft x 10ft maybe moving my flowering stage of the grow to this area, using the other as seedling/vegetation area. Can't decide w/that one yet, get back to ya on that one as well..

Germination Date:
Coming Soon to a Grow Closet near you

Just got the beans, man I'm super pleased. Came in a CD holder, got 2 free beans, Blue Widow and Royal Haze. Got the room for them, so here we go........................

Hey
I checked on the 2 freebie strains, Blue Widow and Royal Haze. Blue Widow is genotype: Blueberry x White Widow and Royal Haze genotype: Haze x ( Skunk x Northern Lights ). Those 2 should be an interesting to grow. Right now I have 11 strains I can work with plus a few more on their way, but if they don't arrive this week, oh well. Gonna geminate this Sunday :hump:

Hey man what size net pots do you use?
I use 3 inch net pods or grow-baskets as I call them, w/clay pepples and of course rockwool. Had one hell of a time finding a 2-3/4" wood hole cutter to make my holes for the pods.
My new grow-boxes are only 7 inches deep, longer tho, so I can easily place/hold 6 feminized plants/grow-box. This grow I plan to trim down each plant so that all I have/need to take of is the plants primary colas, at the same time keeping a couple good branches real healthy so I can re-generate each plant. With alittle luck I'll be placing the regenerated gals in flowering within 4-5 weeks again after harvest. After my 2nd grow's harvested, need to do the dry/trim process, then it will be a stoner week of sampling 4-6 new strains around 10 days after the cut. At that point I'll know what strain or strains I want to keep growing so when I do grow #2's re-harvest, I will continue re-generating the main stay strains and a final cut on those I don't need, fill them in w/ another set of new strains. That's the plan at the moment.

Also I have not yet germinated, it's this Sunday 4shur. Ministry of Cannabis claimed that they sent me some seeds back around the 2nd of Sept. No signs of them so far, not holding my breathe. I told myself to wait another week, so I am/did and that day is up this Saturday. Right now I'm holding 11 different strains, I have regular Bubble Delicious, feminized White Widow, Blue Widow, Royal Haze, Red Dragon, Critical Kali Mist, Mazar x White Rhino, Columbian Gold, Carnival, Big Bud and Kandahar.
Eventually I'll clone via mother plants. But due to my health, sometimes I have take it easy, takes longer for me to get started some days. But you know what? When I had my 1st grow up and running, I never felt better physically, mentally, emotionally and dealt w/ little to no depression. It was all due to the grow, w/o a doubt. When your homebound 70% of the day, always in pain, my 1st grow lifted my spirits each day. Every morning and afternoon I'd perform my aero-hydro maintenance, checking the gals, ph, lighting, ect..ect... Since after my 1st harvest, all I have done is brood, mope, moan & bitch in and around the house. My wife asked me 3 times/day " When are you germinating again? " She is fed up w/me. Need to grow

Haha I know man theres just something extremely relaxing about growing these plants, and thanks for answering my wuestion, did you use same size grow baskets on your last grow, i used 6 inch but felt that the roots couldn't reach all sides of the basket it was one or the other, your roots on your last grow were much better than mine. Do you use h202 also?

I am on a budget so this run I'm going to start w/ 100% distilled water, then wean off of it, I hope. At $.89 per gallon, 12-14 gallons per week, 19 weeks last grow $237.00 bucks
I hope to do 1/3rd that cost w/tap water and distilled water combined. Gonna keep w/ Gen. Hydro. Flora for my nutes again.

Seems whenever I get ready to germinate, it gets pushed back. I did not like the way my new grow-boxes drained back to the solution box. Last grow I battled with this off and on. I have my grow-boxes tipped slightly so they don't fill it up with nutes in the grow-boxes. I hope 7 inches of grow depth for the roots are enough, I'll be pissed if they get rootbound. My 1st grow-boxes were 4 times deeper than these. My new boxes are longer and hold 6 plants w/plenty of space to bush out. Also I motified my micro sprayers a bit, they work perfectly.

I have properly tagged each strain to the rockwool cube, grow-baskets and grow-holes located on each grow-box. This time I'll know which plant is what strain. Also I purchased a water filter set-up for our home tap water. I spent alot of money on distilled water on my last grow. I hope to use a mix of distilled water and tap water on this run. Also got a new 1 gallon wet-vac. Last grow I used the solution pump to drain as well as hand scooped the remaining water/nutes out of the solution box each week during my dump/rinse. That was always fun. Now I can do it alot easier, cleaner and faster.

IMO doing the dump/rinse each week contributed partially to a great 1st grow/harvest. I do plan to get an R/O system, carbon filter and more CFLs down the road, but the wife took my wallet for now. However my upgraded grow system is now perfect. Also this new other area, I'm still planning to use it, needed to put on hold for now. The cost is only some plywood, paint, 2x4s, 2x2s and minor electrical and duct work. I can flower an estmated 36-42 plants in the new area. If this shithole state I reside in gets off their dead lame asses and votes yeah for the legalization of medical marijuana, I would like to be one of many suppliers to the local dispensories. Wishful thinking I know, but what is a man, if a man does not better himself.

Right now, w/o any more further delays, germination will occur no later than this upcoming Sunday. Officially my 1st day of my 1st week will be this Sunday, 09-26-10. Only 3 weeks off from my original plan of starting 09-05-10. This way everything starts on the 1st day of the week.

Germinate Date: 09-26-10

Seeds/Strain germinated: 3 seeds each of Columbian Gold, 3 seeds each Red Dragon, 2 seeds each of Critical Kali Mist, 2 seeds each of Mazar x White Rhino, 1 seed each of Blue Widow and Royal Haze. I have 10 regular Bubblelicious seeds on hand as back-up. The plan is to germinate them to replace any other strains that did not make it to seedling. My goal is to grow/harvest at least 12 plants...

Strain Discriptions:

Columbian Gold, or known as Skunk No. 1 was the first true stabilized hybrid to enter the Dutch Cannabis greenhouses. Sacred Seeds created it in the late 1970s from Afghani Indica, "Acapulco Gold" Mexican Sativa and Columbian Gold Sativa.
For the first time this strain provided growers with the good taste and high of a Sativa coupled with the quick heavy flowering of an indica. Having been successfully stabilized, Skunk No. 1 has been widely used as a breeding parent for most of todays leading "skunk" and many other strains. It is very easy to grow and has always been seen as a standard against which others can be measured.
It produces dense buds varying in colour from light green to golden with a very high yield. It is easy to manicure due to its high bud-to-leaf ratio. It has a sweet smell and taste with a cerebral high.

Critical Kali Mist, Hybrid obtained from the inversion of female plants like Shantibabas Critical + and Kali Mist, giving us sativa plants adapted to indoors with a pure Kali taste but considerably shortening its flowering period thats to its Critical genetic. This Plant will remind you od the Kali Mist metallic and incense flavours but with the Critical yield. Critically Mist-ical!!

Mazar x White Rhino,
We crossed the legendary Mazar il Sharif, known because of its great resin production, with White Rhino. In this hybrid, the part of the Afghani gives the plant a medical characteristic that is increased with the cross with a F1 White Rhino, a plant that has a heritage of Afghani, Brazilian and Indian and a very relaxing indica effect. Ideal for just sitting and meditate. Very white plants covered with resin with a high content in cannabinoids and very resistant to funghi. A good mother for medicinal use because of its high THC value.

Red Dragon, The parentage of this line is exotic – a West Himalayan Kush crossed with a true breeding Brazilian sativa. (Utopia Haze)
These buds have a distinct and immediate, exotic sativa high, but is followed minutes later by a wonderful undertow of a solid Kush stone that lasts and lasts. Finished buds have a taste and smell of sweet guava fruit.

Blue Widow, This Fl hybrid of Blueberry and White Widow has been created to give flavour, taste and colour. The intense sweet&sour taste of White Widow and the forest berry aroma of Blueberry, when mixed, create a blend offruity sweets that smells like chewing gum. Due to its Blueberry heritage, in low outdoor temperatures this plant displays autumnal colours, turning from blue to purple and even reddish colours when the temperature drops even further. It also grows somewhat taller than pure White Widow, displaying larger internodal distance as well.
It is a good producer offat purple buds totally coated with trichomes, with a fruit chewing gum taste and a nice strength.

Royale Haze, The quality sativas are the ones that produce clear psychoactive effects, without the feeling of sleepiness or tiredness. The presence of THCTHCV, a compound that makes the stimulant effect of THC stronger, and the absence of CBD, are both responsible of making the effect quite long, it can endure several hours, all without a feeling of lethargy or tiredness.

Bubblelicious, Bubblelicious was developed in the Midwest, U.S.A., then brought to the Netherlands in the 1990s to be further refined. Its plants grow vigorously and finish flowering in about 9 to 11 weeks. Bubblelicious is highly resinous and extra sweet. Certain phenotypes will actually display a distinct pink bubblegum scent and flavour.

Lighting Schedule:
Seedling stage, three 85watt/350watt, 6500 k, 4200 lumens, on 24/day

Vegetation stage, six 85watt/350watt, 6500k, 4200 lumen, on 18 hours/off 6 hours/day

Flowering stage, for 2 weeks, ten 105watt/400watt, 2700k, 5000 lumen, 12 on/12 off

Flowering stage, for 6 weeks, ten 105watt/400watt, 2700k, 5000 lumen, and four 185watt/350watt, 6500 k, 4200 lumens, mixed spectrum, 10 on/14 off

Flowering/ripening stage, same mixed spectrum set-up, 8 on/16 off

48 hours prior of harvest, no lights at all during the 48 hours.
Any body that has read my 1st grow journal or threads dealing with CFL lighting to grow knows I'm a big believer on using CFLs to grow Grade A bud

Solution pump schedule:
Seedling stage, on 1 minute/off 5 minutes, 12 times per hour, 24 hours/day

Vegetation stage, on 1 minute/off 10 minutes, 6 times per hour, 24 hours per day

Flowering/ripening stage, on 1 minute/off 10 minutes, 6 times per hour, 24 hours/day

Nutrients:
General Hydroponics Flora Grow, Flora Bloom, Flora Micro, Calmg+ when needed
I'll be using 50% distilled water, 50% filtered tap water.

Goals during vegetation/flowering stage:
Keep the gals trimmed back on this grow. I like to get between 4-6 main colas/plant. Last time I ended up w/alot of undergrow buds, which was fine, but on this grow, nothing but top colas. On my 1st grow when I cut the plants main stem near the base of the grow, there was a shitload of newly developt little branches. I assume that would be the starting point or the top of the re-generation of the plant, yes? Wonder if I can also cut away the older part of the root system, leaving 16-20 inches of the newer root to start the re-grow. After the cut I would like to transfer the plants to a clean growbox before re-generating. Cross that bridge when I get there.

Man my 1st grow was hell of alot easier, especially germinating these new strains this run. Can't get any of my Red Dragon to pop, just scuffed those 4 seeds and re-germinated. Also germinated my last Critical Kali Mist, Columbian Gold and Mazar x White Rhino seed. I have 2 Columbian Gold in their perspective grow-pods, the 1 Blue Widow, 1 Royal Haze, 1 Critical Kali Mist and 1 Mazar x White Rhino, 1 Columbian Gold are still rooting in the dome pan. Purchased/installed a 500 gpm nutes solution pump, my 265 gpm just can't handle both grow-boxes and micro sprayers. I have lost 1 Mazar x WR and 1 Critical KM, not sure if the Royal Haze is going to make it. Had to tie her up.

Just seems I did better when I knew less.

Latest update, 10-07-10
As it stands, grow-box 1 is full, all 6 grow-pods have a plant in them. Grow-box 1 consist of 3 Columbian Gold, 1 Critical Kali Mist, 1 Mazar x White Rhino, 1 Blue Widow

Have 1 Red Dragon that popped after 17 days in germination and another Mazar x WR in the dome. Still waiting to germinate are 3 Red Dragons and 1 Columbian Gold. If there is a no show, going to germinate 5 regular BubbleDelicious seeds from 2005. I'll be risking a chance of a male plant or two, hope not. But if it happens, move em somewhere or destroy the males.

Because 10-01-10 is my start date, I'm holding off until this weekend for my Dump/Rinse. I perfer to do that task on Saturday mornings, instead of weekdays. It's only a couple days longer this go around. Once completed, I'll do the D/R every 7 days. Also on this grow I'm using 50% filtered tap water, 50% distilled water. When I do the D/R, I always rinse my roots to prevent nute lock-out for 24 hours, then add my new batch of fertilizer and nutreints. It truely makes a difference in the grow.

I am so happy to be in the grow again. Never will I kill all my plants again for harvest. This time, having 6 different strains growing at the same time will not only be interesting, but if successful, I will have 7 strains to work with for pain, depression, nausea and other items w/my lymes disease. Really counting on this to work.

10-11-10, Germinated 5 regular Bubbledelicious seeds, 2 White Widow, 2 Carnival, Re-scuffed 3 Red Dragons, 1 Colubian Gold. This time I placed each strain into a glass/tempered tap water, cover, place on heating pad. Nothing today. Grow-box 1 has 3 Columbian Gold, 1 Blue Widow, 1 Critical Kali Mist, the dome has 1 Red Dragon, 2 Mazar x White Rhino, 1 Critical Kali Mist, these arw doing poorly. I have 7 available grow-pods. If I can get each strain to grow, that would make 8 strains on this grow

This is what I use and it will save you a lot of money in the long run. 0 ppm and a pH of 5.6 when finished distilling. That pH could vary depending on what type of water you have. My tap is like anywhere in between 650-950 ppm. I don't even let my dog drink the stuff.

Looks like you got a good setup. I'll hang around and see what happens. I'm interested in that Colombian Gold. That s**t brings back some good memories for me as well. I was looking into some Panama Red about a month ago and I found some CG while I was looking. I like the idea of growing out some classics. I'm about to grow out some NL#5, that's another oldie but a goody.

Peace

Currently I'm mixing distilled water w/filtered tap water. Seems to work. My gals are all real healthy so far. I lost the Critical Kali Mist, she was to nuted or burnt to pull thru. So now its down to ony four plants, only 2 strains. The 3 Gold and 1 Blue Widow. So I'm going to clone a few Blue and a few Gold to get my count up. Even considering getting some seeds again. I'm nicely setup w/equipment, lights and pumps. So this week going to order feminized Black Widow, The Church, White Rhino and Kali Mist strains.

Regarding the Columbian Gold, can't wait for that harvest. I still plan to continue to grow it as one of my stable stash....

The Blue Widow was a freebe w/I recieved my seeds. I have read that she is kickass all the way. Hard dense bud, slow to flower in the begining, then all hell breaks lose.
I am happy with the way she looks, darker green folage. They say there is no central stem, I need to look. Can't wait to clone off her, she is super healthy, so is the Gold.
Here is the info

"BlueBerry (female from British Columbia) x White Widow (Aloha male)
APPEARANCE: Very short plant, up to 80cm with short to medium internodes, no central stalk but rather many stems forming a bush almost as wide as tall. Fat indica dark green leaves turn more slender when flowering. Very consistent. Height, nodes and density are all very uniform.
Buds: Budding is slow at first, then it explodes with orange hairs forming thick, rock solid clusters covered in abundant shiny glands, all possessing an unmistakable blue hue to the tops. Good side branching will form dense solid buds with much resin everywhere, in between small thick leaves.
Taste/smell: Smelling like a strong house cleaner that tingles the nose, it is extremely tasty, with a sweet hashyberry flavor that explodes in the lungs.
High: Very strong, nice up, clear high, exhilarating, floaty, very visual buzz. It is more powerfull, and has a much better high than either BlueBerry or White Widow, but is not very heavy.
Yield: It is high, being an easy to grow plant. Budding is slow at first, but then explodes with thick solid clusters with orange hairs and a very high calyx to leaf ratio. The AK-47 is a good yielding plant inoors but the Blue Widow will out yield it - NCGA

Wow....
