At first I thought they were bleached calyxs but they showed up on the tips of lower buds too, so that doesnt make sense. Also they continued to grow, get frostier and eventually turned pink from anthocyanins. I am noticing it on a few ladies in the next batch now also. I have never heard of hash tips but after googling it, that seems to fit the bill thank you for clueing me in, will get more pics up.

It is hash tips! :)

I never got them in the old HPS days. But since I switched over to LED last year, certain strains seem to do that almost every time, especially the tips that are closest to the light. It happens every run on my plushberry, which gets very frosty usually.

It's just bleaching, hash tips don't exist, that was propaganda manufactured by Hydroponics Hut to sell LED lights.
Maybe the term was coined by them, but the article I read wasn't from a LED light company.

And from personal experience, I would definitely not call it simply bleached. I've looked at my "hash tip" under magnification, and its trichome upon trichome upon trichome, not bleached leaf matter. And I never got these when I used HPS in the past. Its specific to using LED lights, for me.

It seems to be something other than the typical bleaching. The white tufts are alive and growing with healthy white pistils during the swell. It is only occurring on the tops of certain varieties and there is plenty of healthy growth that is closer to the lights than the white parts. The Ace of Spades was getting blasted by the COBs and there were no hash tips or bleaching.

Note it is only happening to the calyxs and not the leaves

It was an article in Skunk magazine, from 2010, correct?
A magazine that was given gifts, and lights by Hydroponics Hut, in order to influence their opinion.
I was already growing with LED's when this malarkey was getting shoveled the first time.
Please do me a favor, read through the responses in that forum to that post, because within pages, the idea of hash tips gets dismissed. That was 2010, it's 2014 now, and they're still not real.

What we saw above is a lack of chlorophyll in the tip of the bud, because it can't be produced there, due to the intensity of the light. That is known as bleaching.

Hash Tips have been defined in two different ways over the years.
1. Bleaching occurs, but when the pistils turn dark, they contrast against the white buds more than usual. People then claim that the darkened pistils, are so covered with trichs, they've become hash while still on the plant. This was the original definition of hash tips.
2. Bleaching occurs, but people claim that the white buds are due to the trichs covering the plant matter, to the point where the green is no longer visible.

We've had people on here claim up and down that they get hash tips every time they grow.
When pressed for pictures, or any proof, said members disappear.
Hash tips are as real as Santa Claus, trust me.

I never got that white growth under hid. I know it's possible..but I never got it. First grow with pro source..got them..on only a 90w 1w UFO. Got them again on next led..glh spectra 180.

When I built my light with 80w extra deep red with 240w white..I thought...I'm gonna get white tips everywhere! Only one tiny spot inches from led.

Next grow I put in 40w extra blues. I thought...okay now I'm gonna get tons of white growth for sure! It must be the blues doing that! zero white growth.

All i can think now is not enough broadband white causes that. I also notice when there's not enough white, bud size seems to hit a maximum. Dense, frosty, but not big. So obviously, I think, one color...probably more so red speeding photosynthesis is over saturated...when there's not enough "normal" white light to fill in the blanks.

I've seen a few grows with a red and blue base that made big buds...but very few and far between.

Long winded on that one..white tips used to bug the shit out of me.

What broadband whites are you using Pos? I only know of one company making broadband whites and their diodes suck for growing. And for the record I haven't seen a white tip since I put CREE bulbs in my grow. They're not broadband but do have a pretty healthy dose of green in there. Maybe it's the green?

I'll definitely take some pictures when I get to that stage, if it occurs this run. I don't find it happens on all strains, only ones known for heavy trichome production, like the plushberry.

And, hell, I'm not going to bet the bank on "hash tips" being anything...I'm just going by observation, and "hash tips" is a convenient way to say what I've observed. Not my term, by any mean. It could very well be excessive bleaching, but I've never seen it happen with HPS and I sometimes ran plants incredibly close to bulbs.

With LED, I always try to establish a consistent-ish canopy, so I don't have plants right up under the light.
