... but I got high!

It's been a while since I've updated. My life got alot busier last week, but the smaller of my two plants showed itself ready for harvest last Tuesday evening (5 days ago). For a harvest report see my next post.

For now, I'd like to talk about the larger plant that is taking its sweet time to mature. This is the plant I mistakenly thought was more ready a few weeks ago. This is also the plant that I took the bulk of my early harvest from (23.5 grams). It has been suggested that harvesting a sativa dominant plant in sections slows the maturation process. The reason I took so much from this plant is that I thought I was going to lose it to a pH imbalance in week 6.

This plant has been flushed for 3 weeks at this point, with its last drink of water being 8 days ago. I took the pictures below yesterday. This was day 64 of flowering. My wife took one look and said 3 - 4 more days. I don't think she is far off. The buds are falling over due to their weight. I've haphazardly tied them up by tying them to one another. Enjoy the pics, I'm going to go enjoy some harvest!:blsmoke::peace:

Last Tuesday evening I harvested one of my plants after 60 days of flowering. The calyxes swole almost looking seeded and the pistils turned brown (80 - 90% of them). The trichs were about 60% amber and 40% milky with a smattering of clear trichs. The plant harvested was the smaller of the two plants, but in the last two weeks outpaced its sister in terms of maturity.

I couldn't get a decent picture of the harvest before they were dry. I had to dry it all over the house, and didn't really have place to hang all of it. The bud you see that is the length of the sewing machine finished at 11.8 grams. The total dry harvest from that plant was 47.3 grams. If you add this to the early harvest (that I wish I didn't have to do); you get 70.8 grams. Now that I have a gauge by which to judge, I'm going to guess 50 or so grams come off the plant yet to be harvested. The top alone is more than twice what the top on this one is. That would put me over 4 ounces :blsmoke:!!! Needless to say, I'd be happy with that.

So I havested and manicured last Tuesday. I dried them in the hall closet(s)during the night. My grow closet had been running at 78 degrees and 37% humidity during the day. So I hung them on the dark side of the black/white poly during the day. The airflow is so much better in the grow closet, and just as dark as the hall closets. This greatly aided in drying them. They dried alternating days in the grow closet and nights in the hall closet(s) for 5 days. Today I took them down, manicured them a bit more and placed them in glass jars. You can see two of the jars are 3/4 full in the background.

I have alot of work to do this week, but I'm going to try and take the time during one of my breaks to post what I learned, what I did wrong, what I would do again etc. I'm pretty pleased with this grow, but I'm 100% certain I could do better with the same resources. :peace::blsmoke:

Of all that I have harvested, only about 10 grams was dried and cured properly before smoking. It is a smooth but heavy smoke that combines a piney smell with a slight citrus taste. The high from the early harvest was very heady with lots of giggles. This most recent harvest (just dried so far, curing now) is much more powerful; but still maintains the cerebral high with plenty of smiles.

However, if one was inclined to smoke a little much, it can become difficult to keep from staring into space and wondering where the time went. I find it to be an introspective high when alone, but a nice social buzz when smoked in moderation. My wife is not as heavy of a smoker as I, and she recently admitted to me that she has a period of 5 - 10 minutes after smoking that she "has a hard time keeping it together." She has always been a bit 'noid after smoking, so this is to be expected. The friends I've shared it with are blown away by the potency, and a buzz that is different from what we typically come across in our area.

I should also add that I suffer with chronic joint pain for which chronic is also the medicine of choice for me. This strain is not as effective as the more indica strains of good that are much more commonly for sale in this region. While being less narcotic, the pain relief is adequate for my purposes. Plus, the amazing cerebral buzz I get tends to make me forget I'm hurting anyway.

awesome grow. you get my first post on this site.
i just want to know what kind of dirt you used and what/if any nutes you would feed it.

I used Miracle Grow potting soil. It has nutes in it that are supposed to last for 90 days. The nutrient level of this soil did get quite depleted the last 3 weeks of the grow, but that is not really a bad thing. Next time I will be adding some sort of diluted blooming nute during flowering. Welcome to site and thanks for stopping by the grow tallnasty!

I harvested the other plant last night after 67 days of flowering. The trichs were 60% milky, 30% amber, and 10% clear. I would have let it go another couple of days, but it was bone dry and I didn't want to give any more water. Also, I mentioned that I am blasted this week as far as my schedule goes right now. This definitely played a minor role in the decision to harvest now. I'll put an update this weekend with the final yield. I'll also try to post a few pics when I get the chance.

and this was done with just CFLs, right? either way congrats - your bud looks tasty.

If this is all CFL grow - i will be pointing folks to it for proof that CFLs can get you some tasty looking bud!

Yes email, it was done 100% with CFL's. Once dried, if you put these buds next to some you bought from dealer around here; there would be little to clue you in that these are grown under CFLs. EDIT: Except of course they are more potent, a gram is actually gram, and they are way more fresh.

I will probably do one more grow with CFLs and experiment with cloning as well as some other techniques. I'd like to put something together that would get about 8 - 10 ounces with only minor light and supply additions. I've got some ideas, but they will have to wait. I've got family visiting this summer, otherwise I would start it now. Regardless of the success with CFLs, when I move in 11 months my next house will likely have a HID setup. I just need a place to set it up properly.

Thanks for stopping by email!
