Purpollo 13 Breeding Project Report

This report is something I began thinking about going into this project. It is a basic report about the IBL Pakistan Chitral Kush as well as some breeding information and information about Apollo 13. Credit will be given where credit is due and I may or may not include pics so if you smoked an Indy, you might wanna skip this.
The biggest deal in creating an F1 Hybrid is selection, without a doubt. In my project, I have a Green Pheno PCK Male that I have been getting pollen from. I am curious to know if there will still be purple phenos in the F1. As far as the Apollo 13 goes, it is a clone only. The first one I have is pretty solid, it has been veggin for 2 months and it looks solid. It had to battle off some mild mold and, with the help of hundreds of lady bugs, a small outbreak of spider mites. So it knows the ropes. I have grown about 30 or 40 of these over the last 6 months and I have to tell ya, they are always identical in growth pattern, resign development, bud formation, bud size and density.
I am very interested in doing a Back Cross with the F1 Male and the Apollo 13, even if there is no purple in em. That way, I should be able to use an Apollo13 BX male to pollenate the PPC female. I have this in clone stock now, but later I will grow some seeds from the PPC x PCK Green Male as well as ordering more seed packs from CBG.
So I feel like I can see this project in full now. I may have problems getting Purpollo 13 to actually be Purple… that one is a cross your fingers thing at this point until I hear something from the guys at ICMag.com. If they do, that will save a lot of time on this project so that I can get a feel-up on the Purpollo… I want to grow many PCK females from seed to make sure I have a couple of different phenos to experiment with, especially the green and the other purples that are more red.
The first line of stable Pakistan Chitral Kush was first introduced into the market sometime around December 2009 to maybe January. CannaBioGen had used it as a breeding tool since the early nineties. It was a Land Race Strain (LRS) that was also an Inbreed Line (IBL) growing in the Chitral Region of the Pakistan side of the Kush mountains. CBG took the plants to Spain, where they used selection to isolate and propagate the most desired ones based on growth patterns, colors, and bouquet, as well as flowering time and the usual desired traits. They used this plant to come up with one of their flagship crosses, “Sandstorm” which is said to be about 70% PPC and a Male from Morocco. Pure Indica.
CBG is the only company that produces these seeds commercially, because they stabilized it for nearly a decade, they deserve full credit for this awesome Pure Indica IBL. They have authorized Ace Seed Co the ability to distribute PCK seeds, and they do. Anyone else selling them, as far as I know (as far as I believe by Stoner Code and the Golden Rule Logic) they are doing the Bean World a disservice. Even F1’s have to be distributed properly in the underground until the name and character of that F1 is legend. Then, and only then, should you attempt to make and sell your F1 seeds because you are just using two strains that someone else worked to make something you knew would kick ass. It has to pass the test.
In the case of Purpollo 13, the story of Apollo 13 is funny because the Brother’s Grimm Breeder Soul who invented it found the mother in a Jack Herer bud. He had three seeds from that bud and they all produced plants covered in crystals. He named them Princess and Genius we know for sure. Princess was the mother of the very famous Cinderella back crosses of P75, the original BX of Princess. So this was an accidental find. It will never be known if the Jack Herer bud he found them in was self-pollinated or cross pollinated. It makes more sense that it was an F2 Jack Herer perhaps pollinated by a nearby male JH plant, seeing how all three seeds produced somewhat different plants with different growth patterns and effects. He didn’t bang those out and a week later, have a website online cranking out thousands of seeds a month… the description from back in the day said there were only 500 seeds of the Apollo 13 made by Brother’s Grimm for distribution.
1. Brothers Grimm are responsible for the famous Cindy99 and a few other killer hybrids and they were big on back crossing to there mother plants to improve stability by “Cubing” a clone only strain. Apollo-13 is Genius x p-75 the 75 indicates that 75% of the desired traits will be determined by the male that has been back crossed twice already.
This is how it works it simple terms. You have a clone only female cannabis plant youd like to have seeds of. These seeds will produce plants that display 50% of the females traits and 50% of the males. You pollinate her with a male plant keeping a copy or clone of the original mother alive. This is an outcross and these seeds are grown out and the best male is selected based on desired traits. This male is then used to again pollinate the original mother plant. The seeds of this breeding will produce seeds that display 75% attributes of the mother plant. This process is continued twice more until the strain is cubed and in theory 99% of what the mother was. Now the science is much more complicated than this but this is a good lamens explanation of cubing.

Looks like the bomb oldschool genetics to me. After all the research so far, I realize that it might take a year or two to find the right combo to give me the Sativa Dom Cerebral blast off while being purple and having some growth patterns blend between the two, possibly making the Apollo 13 branches a little thicker and firmer. While experimenting with back crosses, I will continue to buy seeds and work with them. I plan on buying some Apollo 13 BX seeds from TGA as well as some more PCK’s from CBG and I might even try to bring the Sandstorm into my experiment. I hope to find some awesomeness in the F1’s and the back cross should be exceptional. I am going to also continue to study up on these strains and crosses made from them.
