Old Grower..New Beginning

Good Day, fellow growers.

First thing I see when I enter the grow journal area is that sticky telling everyone to ask for permission before posting in a thread. FEEL FREE TO POST IN MY JOURNAL. We all learn by sharing. Don't hesitate.

I've been waiting my whole adult life for this. Ohio has finally passed legal weed along with a grow your own clause which doesn't require a license and allows 6 plants per adult in house or max of 12. I had been watching the progress of issue 2 for most of the year.
As I waited for the process to unfold I started doing research on growing. Moreso a catch up on all things new in growing indoors. I have experience but it has been a while and the world of indoor gardening has blown up since so many states allow home grown weed. In my day it was hot, bulky, hid and mh rigs. 18% THC strains were as high as you could get and LEDs were just purple lamps folks were just starting to experiment with.

Finally throwing this gig all together. My last indoor grow was in 07. So, here we go. I'll be growing in two tent. 4x4 and 4x8. Fems n Regs in 4x4 in dwc, and Automatics in one half of the 4x8, promix hd myco.

Fems
Paradise Seed...LA Amnesia
Garden of Green...Chemdawg Millionaire Guava
G13 Labs...Gigabud

Autos
I49 Seed...Devil Xxl
420Fastbuds...Mixed bag of autos

25w fish tank heater
Hitop 110gph air pump w air stones
2 6" net pots w geolite clay
3gal fabric pots and trays as needed
Promix hd myco
1" cubes rock wool...slab
Heavy duty plug bar 2
2...6" clip on fans
46"x46" wood frame with metal 2"x3" screening for scrog
Govee Remote temperature/hygrometer Govee Smart humidifier
YinMik ph,ppm,ec tester

Tps Nutes......
Tps One
Tps Signal
Tps CalMag
Planet Earth Silica
SaferGro PH down
Worm castings

*Tent upgrades already
11/14 One 4x4 is already erected and rigged. However I came across some grow tents on a auction. Lol purchased 3 for $230 new open box type stuff. 2 4x2 tents and a huge 4x8. I've decided to keep the larger tent along with my other 4x4. I'll be gifting the two smaller tents to my adult children. Time for them to learn how to grow.
Once I get this mess setup it will form a large L shape in my dining room. I plan on using one side of the large tent for growing some automatic strains and the other for starting seed, clones, storage of nutes, promix, ect. The single 4x4 is light sealed and will host feminized and regular seed grows.

That's about all of it I believe. It's been a pure joy gathering all of this stuff, reading a lot of material to get caught up and knowing in the back of my mind...this is now legal. Peace of Mind makes for a happy gardener.

I'm going to continue this journal to get caught up to current day. Been keeping notes as Ive progressed.

Started all this in early November. I could not wait. Shame on me..

Feminized Beans
11/9 seeded rockwool cubes after overnight soak in 5.6 plain old tap water...don't judge..lol Placed in humidity dome in a warm spot.
11/13 all seeds emerged..placed into 6" netpots.
(I'd planned on two plants but all three came up from this old seed. So I will run two plants in one cup...sounds kinda dirty aye?

This lil LA Amnesia started off life kinda distorted. Was not sure if it was genetic or my error. I kept her alive and am happy to say she's coming around.

Looks great man! A lot of people balk at tps products because of the cost. Tell ya what, I use tps one, silica, bloom and signal in my rdwc and soil grows and havent had one problem, not one definciency, nothing but green goodness and haven't looked back since. Looking forward to following your grows!

Oh my, thank you for that. I love hearing good news on something I've not used before. I've read the nutes can run hot if ya follow their charts. I kinda messed up n fed these fems 700 on their second week. I see no signs of burn so I'm ramping up this week..lol. I wanted something I
could use in hydro and peat. What a encouraging post..thank you very much. Beautiful grow btw. I plan on visiting your threads soon.

Automatic Strains

This has been a while new ballgame for me. I've never cracked a automatic seed in my life. Nor a feminized seed until lately. But let's chat about these autos.
I've found a lot to read on them before I started. Begining in a 3gallon pot after tails crack in a paper towel is kinda alien to me but I did it anyway. Why go against others experience? Just follow the program..lol.
I've managed to get all 4 Devil Xxl to come up and they are doing well. 2 mixed beans have emerged and 3 more should show up today.

It's my understanding that these autos can not be treated like a photo girl. They have that Rudy weed in there so being a weed they don't require much food to survive. That's kinda hard to wrap your head around but again..go with the program..lol.

They appear to be content so far.

Tweaking the Grow Space

Seems like a never ending thing but eventually I plan on getting there. My ventilation is one single 6" visosun blower w filter. Its mounted inside my 4x8 and extracts both tents. Temps are great so far. Planning on adding a 480w lamp in the 4x4 and moving the 400w into the 4x8 with the 300w. Confused yet? Lol
Just in case this bigger lamp produces more heat (which it prob will). I've placed a cool 6" glorified computer fan in the duct to help vent the heat. Love this little plastic fan. Lightweight and a great speed controller.

Lots of firsts for me on this grow. Never grown in a tent before. Loving it so far.

I think I've got a good environment setup for the ladies. They appear content and I hope to keep them that way.

You might want to consider putting fans and filters outside the tent at some point, dont under estimate how much they stretch the first few weeks of flower. Space can run out real fast! Are you plumbing the spent air outside the lung room? The used air can get real dank..

Took me a while to get my set up working efficiently but heres how I got it laid out. Each tent with its own fan and filter outside the tents, connected to a T fitting and piped outside

Ya know, I've smashed ideas in my head for a awhile now. Like I mentioned before. I've never grown in a tent. There's a lot of first happening here lately..lol.
When I got the 4x4 and hooked up that blower I thought I was going to collapse. I believe in neg pressure but that was ridiculous. After I bought the 4x8 and threw it in there and did what I explained above .
I plan on using the big tent for autos only. The 4x4 will Scrog so height issues shouldn't be a problem. I'm guessing the autos won't stretch as big as photos but if they do get leggy I have plenty of headspace. If they get to unruly I'll take pliers to them..lol Crush, crush, bend..lol

Attached is a helpful graphic about what makes up a grow environment. It's a screenshot from a video by Dr. Bruce Bugbee, a cannabis researcher and professor at Univ. of Utah.

Two things that aren't mentioned (much) in your write up are info re. your lights and I don't see a mention of your purchase of a light meter. That's common with new growers — the focus for growers tends to be on fertilizers.

I would strongly recommend that you get a Uni-T Bluetooth lux meter. Without a way to measure the amount of light on your grow, it's impossible to know how much light you're feeding your plants. "feeding" is the key word because, though most discussions are about which pretty bottle is going to let you grow killer weed, plants use light to make food whereas "nutrients" are more akin to vitamins.

Parameters of Growth.png

"if they do get leggy" - plants that aren't giving enough light get "leggy". It's one of the classic indicators.

Give your plants plenty of light and you'll get good results. The plant in the photo is a photoperiod ChemDog that was fed with a standard dry nutrient mix and given good light.

I'm using a phone app for a light meter so far. Good eye catching that. Thanks. I'll upgrade to a better one once I recover from all this startup expense.

So I go in the big tent to water the 4 auto devils Xxl I've let sit for a week now. The pots are light so it's time for a drink. Then I noticed this.
IMG_20231203_123957649_HDR.jpg
This is a mixed bean from 420fastbuds. I swear there was only one bean in there. How the hell I get two plants in one seed????? I've never had this happen..lol. 5 beans, 6 plants??? I'm scratching my head here.
