Oakland pot factories get final approval

Shit... that's more than enough for one smoker. What's the problem (as long as you're not looking to make a business out of it)?

You've got it so good right now unlike us here in Europe. I could not vote no to a deal like this. I mean how many people in California wanna grow just for themselves compared to those who wanna grow larger amounts for other people? Any idea on the ratio?
Growone is correct in the statement that many medical patients need more than what the initiative will allow for personal consumption. Many medical users use 1 oz of cannabis within a few days to 1 week. Only allowing 1 grow area of 5x5 per private property is absolutely not enough for those in medical need. As a medical patient, if the bill passes, I could grow only a portion of what is necessary for my medical needs. I would be forced to go out and spend insane amounts out of pocket for the varying qualities of large scale produced cannabis that would be available. My rights as a medical marijuana patient currently are much better than they would be after the proposed initiative because there is no limit to the amount of medicine a patient can have for personal comsumption now. The California Supreme court ruled that it is unconstitutional to put a limit on the amount of medicine a patient needs, therefore, at this time, there is no cap on the amount of plants or dried cannabis a patient can have. Though the laws on possession for a patient vary from county to county, this current system is much better for the citizens of this country who actually NEED cannabis.

This prop 19 is meant to control, regulate, and tax cannabis for the general public, the recureational users. It is not written to benefit patients at all, it actually moreso limits our rights which is enthically inconsistent.

when i make cannabutter i use 2 ounces of dried buds. good luck making cannabutter. unless you only want to make 1 stick at a time.

there is NO reason for the 1 ounce "limit". no reason at all. could someone explain why it is part of this bill?

You really think California will even be able to meet supply if they legalize it in Nov. Thats what this is all about. They guys want money and there's gonna be a huge market that needs to be supplied.

i doubt we can know how this was arrived at, my opinion is that it's a simple, small, round number that most people understand
1 oz, that's what many remember when when they bought weed years ago
the 5 x 5 space, about the size of a closet, the size of a closet grow, which a lot of people can relate to
now i know this has been discussed to death, but prop 19's stated intention is to not replace prop 215, but exist along aside of it

I'm voting NO for sure in november on 19. I'd much rather not have four huge pot gardens dispensing throughout the state. Thats a monopoly if I've ever heard of one. It is true that there will be a huge market to supply to if it is passed, but there will be a lot of people growing outside and inside (IMO, obviously) so there will be a lot more product anyway. I guess they are just jumping at the first chance of getting largescale potfarms into the system, but shit...

it appears that the pot factories are being built, prop 19 or not
they fall under MMJ guidelines, at least that's what the Oakland City Council seems to think
there must be some kind of 'whisper deal' with DEA
my guess is DEA may prefer large tightly controlled grows to small loosely controlled grows
and i doubt that DEA will much care if some small growers are bankrupted, actually they probably like that

Legalizing Cannabis will empty half of our prisons. and result in a substantial decrease in prosecutors, cops, parole officers, probation officers, and prison guards all of whom suck the life blood out of our economy with their exorbitant, overly inflated and undeserved salaries, benefits and pensions.

wrong.

our prisons are NOT full of people who had less than an ounce. less than an ounce is a simple ticket right now.

if this passes band you have over an ounce you will go to jail. this will not stop ANY arrests and it will NOT release any prisoners.

what about a person on probation or parole as an adult they are not allowed to consume marijuana unless they have a medical prescription. resulting in dirty piss tests and parole violations... filling up jails, prisons, and drug rehab programs that should be housing and re habilitating criminals and serious drug users.

1 ounce is the 'walking around' limit, that could cramp some folks style, but you'd think most could work with it
but the number imprisoned might not change too much for a strange reason
what happens when you make a safer car? people feel more safe, and then they start driving faster/riskier
for a given individual, they have some level of risk that they are comfortable with
lower the risk, they bump up the behavior

Are you speaking of the current laws or what the laws may be this November?

I thought that 1 oz Prop 19 limit was just that=the limit. No more than that. Am I mistaken?

Wow after reading more about prop 19 I am pretty dam pissed off! Richard lee is just like a dirty political leader it's sad I have taken some classes at his school in Oakland and the whole time he preaches "in the future cannabis will be sold at small boutique style places to purchase good quality cannabis" like a winery funny how he is in the process of building a 100,000 square foot ware house to mass produce cannabis. And he would say "prop 19 is here to protect every person who uses cannabis" looks like he is just a another snake in the grass saying one thing and turning around doing another just to be like Bill Gates of cannabis

Prop 19 gives the right to possess 1 ounce on your person, this is what you can walk around with and be legal
it also gives the right to a 5 x 5 foot grow area(minimum, counties could increase this) where you can grow what you can grow, i.e. pounds of weed
anything in your 5 x 5 is good
so by the rules it may be illegal to have say, 2 ounces outside of the grow area
but part of the big change is the presumption of legality
MJ smell from your house, neighbor sees you lighting up in your back yard, no longer cause for police to come by and harass you(or worse)

So some politicians would have it to hide behind...

It was never going to be a mom and pop botique business to deal in marijuana. The money to pay lobbiests and pay off politicians comes from the people with the big pockets and the ability to decide how the legislation is crafted.

you are wrong. sorry, ....

(i) Personally possess, process, share, or transport not more than one ounce of cannabis, solely for that individual’s personal consumption, and not for sale.

you do understand what posses means don't you? how about process?

if you get caught with any more than ONE ounce of dried bud ANYWHERE, at ANYTIME, you WILL be arrested.

there is considerable disagreement on this point, on many other threads and many other grow sites the interpretation is that the 5 x 5 growing area is not limited to a 1 oz limit
certainly, there would be some very strange(and unpleasant) consequences otherwise
the bill doesn't mention wet or dry weight for MJ, thus a over 1 oz wet plant in the grow space would be over the limits

EDIT:

took a few minutes to get this out of the bill
(b) living and harvested cannabis plants shall be assessed by square footage, not by weight in determining the amounts set forth in section 11300(a)

It's still more restrictive than what we have now. Under current law, there is no limit to how many plants you can grow or how much you can cultivate for personal consumption.
