Noobie dumbski 12/12 question

Eeezy now!

Was just reading about how in our wee closets grows, were trying to replicate nature, especially when it comes to flowering an 12/12 light cycles...

Im sure its been tested and the fact that nobody mentions it suggests it doesnt work, but if the 12/12 emulates Autumn, and flowering goes on for 8 - 10 weeks, why wouldnt adjusting the darkness/light ratios to end flowering with say 10/14 work?

Surely somebodys tried this?

Also, this is bugging me senseless, wtf is 240??? I see it all over various forums and i havent a clue what it refers to...

I am sure you could do that, but 12/12 works flawlessly. It wouldn't make any sense to play around with the light schedule just to try and come closer to getting a more "realistic" nature feel.

24/0 is what 240 means 24 on/ 0 off

Some plants may end early, but they would not yeild the same QUANTIY.

so might be useful for finishing off sativas, ive heard some 14 week flowering horror stories...

Lol, I am a dumbski, what i meant was 420, streetrider its there under your name again, wtf does it mean???

u need all the dark time for buds to grow but need less than 13 hrs light to flower so thats y 12/12 works the best hope this helps

A well done Sativa grow is well worth the wait! They can be a pain to finish proper, but when you get it right. Bet some of the best smoke ever to travel your lungs.

I was just thinking if you increased the darkness gradually through flowering youd be stimulating the plants survival instincts (and flower production) more than keeping it 12/12 for 8 - 10 weeks which on the face of it isnt natural, is it?

Well I believe that 12-12 works perfectly. But think of in terms of growth. Since you want to cut to maybe 10 on and 14 off I believe overall growth will suffer since 12-12 is perfect to induce flowering responses.

Each strain is a little different, but 12/12 is a great general rule. You can play around with your strain of choice, but you will normally be just fine at 12/12.
