Nice, looks tasty!
alright, that's it.

next person to pontificate on the taste or proper preparation of my duck for consumption is in for it.

i will hire a computer geek, track down your ip, find out where you live, use that to locate your mother, take her out to a nice lobster dinner and a performance at the local theater, and then NEVER CALL HER AGAIN.

This is SO weird! Someone I know just picked up two ducklings today who were hatched by a black chicken. When they got them home, the ducklings chased their black chicken around thinking it was their "mother", freaking the chicken out.

They are adorable! :)

i don't get it

she is sleeping under her mama right now with a nice heat lamp over them.

i am hoping to wake up to a second duck baby tomorrow.
I hope it hatches. Usually by this time they both should have hatched. :: crossing fingers ::

we read that they can hatch up to 24 hours apart.

there were three eggs at first, but our other chicken also went broody. we built her a cage and gave her an egg to lay on. the next morning, we found her egg buried in the hay and cold as a rock. the eggs can only go for 4 hours in the heat of the day without their mother's warmth, so that egg was dead.

if the other one doesn't hatch, so be it. not every seed will pop, not every egg will hatch.

although, if it does not hatch, we will go buy a sister for dandelion mcduck. they are social animals, so it is a must.

This thread makes me ridiculously happy and grinning, so fucking cute

In fact, if ducks weren't so hard to raise and need so much, I would get a pet duck. Named Baxter. :)

i built them a coop and they spend their days outside now. we move them in at night, but have been letting them stay outside for longer and longer lately.

they are getting big. they grow up quick.

the black duck you see is dandelion's adopted sister. the other egg was not fertilized and so never hatched. her sister's name is ninja, although i call it darkwing duck.

they have started swimming now.

I had a broody chicken hen. A friend gave be some Guinea eggs and I put them under her. She hatched them no problem, they were cute at first...then they got bigger and became to damn loud so I had to give them away...the ugly and loud fuckers.

It is not uncommon for one bread to hatch out another. I artificially incubate my birds, but nature is still a cool thing to watch.
