Hello Greengenes707,
How much of a discount can we get with the code you mentioned?

WIth apache it's at600 or nothing imo. 1 for 1 with a 1K hps. It's the top of the food chain in production panels right now imo still. Use the code ATLGR27 for a discount.

But if just needing 1 little light then go a51.

I know the guys at Hioptix. They are nice and have a great product for the most part. I definitely have some constructive criticism on the design...but the components in it are all quality.

They know near nothing about growing plants. I had my PAR meter at the max yield show and blew their mind. They had good numbers in a general speaking...but was just some quick readings at some guestimated distances. The spread is my biggest question other than the vertical height needed for just the fixture alone...then clearance form a spot source like it it. Greenhouses for sure could get great use from it...passively cooled with those big ass radiators too. But controlled indoor environments are going to be a tough sell with the design.
They were a high bay design/light...that happens to work and they are transitioning. Similar to lighting sciences story...which is successful...and crazy enough so is hps.
Anyways... they are worth a look if they fit someones space/style. I could probably get more info from them if we need it.

EDIT:
They put this up recently...

I've learned a lot from this thread as well as others. All LED lights have china parts. That's why I went DIY it breaks I can fix it. No sending shit back and waiting for them to fix it. A quote from the movie Tommy Boy " A guarantee is good as the person giving it" don't be fooled with those overpriced LEDs with china parts. Here is where Area 51 lies while telling the truth

Yeah there's also Africa and India lol. But seriously the lies the lies that doesn't have to be. The lights work but they keep people in the dark so they can take money from them that's all. I don't like to be lied to do you?

It is possible that the xte series is made in usa. The cobs that you are buying from a chinese middleman are made in china.

Just contact A51 and ask him about his FAQ. Perhaps it's not worded as well as it could be (maybe they're made in a Cree-owned Taiwan or China factory?). Or, maybe they're really made in the US. You won't know until you ask.

Did you learn this at school? If so and you can find your old class mates, you could probably mount a successful class action law suit. The American dream baby!!!
:hump:

EDIT: Sorry American friends, I couldn't resist!

Does origin really matter

Matters more to me if it's made well and sold for a reasonable mark up. China is more than capable of producing quality stuff.. They have all the equipment..

Buy American first if possible of course..
Being originally from the UK, I grew up believing that where any form of technology is concerned, you always buy German first and Japanese second. I guess we're not quite as patriotic as you guys!

No here's why

The Durham Location is their headquarters and manufacturing is done in china. If the XTE's were made here it would be triple if not more the cost. I agree they are designed by America but manufactured in China. How hard is it not to believe that. And remember Levis? They use to be American made and now where are they made?

I feel it's a mistake for you to shine such a strong light on geography, without conceding the corporate cultural differences which usually exist between a typical local manufacturer and their facilities in the developing world and their multinational neighbours up the road. Having lived in developing countries, I know how true this is. There can be very different approaches to certain aspects of business, not least QC. I cannot attest to the specifics of Cree of any other individual company, but I'd rather buy a product from a Chinese factory owned by Cree or Apple than from a Chinese company I don't know from Adam. This may be a little prejudice of me I admit, but there are reasons for this quite commonly held prejudice, mainly, it has been earned through generations of shoddily built merchandise.

Yo Heavy I'm with you on it doesn't matter where it's made but as it's made right I'm for it. But I'm tired of the American lie, when you go to Mc Donald's and order a Big Mac it doesn't fucking look like the picture. Plus I remember when Big macs had their own size patty and now they use the same patty for they use on the regular cheese burger. The patty use to go to the edge of the bun.

If the diodes used in A51's lamps are manufactured in China, the FAQ should be changed. It's not clear if they're made in China because the wiki page you posted says they still use (and are expanding) their US manufacturing facility. (It says "plant" not headquarters, as in "office space.").

If they're made in China, I suggest the following :

The housing case, heat sinks, drivers and fans are made in China. The LEDs are American made[*], purchased and soldered under Area-51 supervision in the USA -- as is all assembly.

[*] Researched and developed in America, manufactured in American-owned and managed facilities in China to American standards.

To me, there is a distinction between "made" (which covers the entire product cycle) and "manufactured" (one specific part of being "made"). The former seems more generic, the latter more specific.

Would that be fair wording?

REALSTYLES,why don't you just give it a rest. I know you have a closed head injury with brain damage but thats not a excuse for your constant trolling, you just seem to like arguing and the subject doesn't seem to matter. Now your attacking one of the few LED panel companies that is open and communicates with our community.
