Hydroponic vs Soil

I think all the main points have been covered here already, so I'll just add one small point...

If we're talking about Hydro v Soil purely on yield per plant then I agree that the yield from mature plants is the same regardless of medium used. If we look at it over time however, I'd say Hydro wins, with indoor soil grows close behind

btw, I actually prefer the taste of hydro, maybe I'm strange :P

I have grown in both soil and hydro for a number of years now. Hydro will give you a faster crop rotation hands down. Still as far as a larger yield than soil I'm not so sure. If anything it's the skill of the grower and the strain your attempting to grow. I know many people who experts at growing in hydro and experts who use nothing but dirt. Honestly I think both methods are rewarding.

easy way to feed ur plants wen ur away is to get a 5 litre bottle, put a small hole in the lid, big enough to stick a smalll tube through it, run a tube round to each of ur plants and put a smal hole ova each pot and simply turn the bottle upside down, very cheap drip system, i just use a pump and a tank, much easier

well just adding to the thread
i started in soil and had bug problems right off the bat, but watering was never a problem and its wayyyyy cheaper than a "DECENT" hydro setup,
perfect for a first time. soil also jacked up my closet
however now using hydro its just less of a hassle. but we shouldnt fight
to each their own on how you grow. if it works well dont fix it but trying both is a good idea

hey all, i grow in soil wiv a hydro setup, soil in pots but wiv a nutrient tank, pump, drippers etc, its all about makin ur life as easy as possible, i do soil for the flavour alone, it beats hydro imvho, why water ur plants 1 at a time wen u can do all at once, my grow is 100% organic too, biobizz soil and biobizz nutes and some molasses in the last few weeks to add to the sweet sticky nugs lol, mixin both setups makes life so much easier, in soil u have no run off and only water once a day, hydro u have so much messin about wiv the feed programme that its hardly worth the bother for a week or 2 quicker grow, thats my view on it all anyways, hope this helps, peace

I totally agree with Garden Knowm. I am using dirt right now and I hate the watering, the mess, and the growth rate. The only good thing is the taste and if something goes wrong they dont all die. lol.

Airoponics I think is cheaper. You need a pump, maybe some hose/ pvc pipe, A nice big box or a few. Some baskets, sprayers and thats about it.

With dirt It cost me $10 a bag. That gives me about 10 plants only cause Im not using enough dirt in my pots. It should be 2 plants im sure. Anyways pots alone. $3-4 a pot and I need 300 of them. Those two factors alone, I could prolly build 2-3 airoponic systems of the same scale.

But you old guys just stick to your dirt and skunk buds. lol :bigjoint:

j/k im 31 so I guess im getting old too.

Yo widow maker, nice pics man, on your system shown in the pics, can you give me a list of everything your using in that setup, I wanna get something like that going, just need a list of everything I need by name quantity and size, I would appreciate it :)

I have grown in both and i bought the stealth hydro Bubbleponics kit. I know that during veg especially, i would have to raise my lights EVERY DAY! Once the roots hit the water and they get those VEG Nutes, watch out!
I think Hydro is fairly easy and i like concocting my next grow and methods for such.

They arent water lillies but everyone must agree that science has made all plant growing - better. Were not eating any veggies our ancestors did, they didnt have sweet corn or giant tomatoes or seedless grapes etc. there are ways to improve a plants qualities by maximizing the nutrients and environment in which it grows. I think Hydro is the perfection of vegtative and fruit growth.

I know that hydro grown veggies grow larger, and in less time, so i dont think its a huge leap to say hydro is a higher yielding method.

Hydro has its own connotations as well and i think commands a greater price. In my area it does. People ask for it by name .

I liked my dirt plants and its a great way to grow, but i like the HYDRO and i cant wait to go AERO!

Although quantity is a quality in its self, how well would the actual bud turn out? I know it would depend on the strain used and the way it was grown, but would the hydro be stronger then soil grown? To me personally, I don't care if I have an ounce while the next guy has a pound. If my ounce is some skunk and his is comparable to yard trimmings, then I would be happy with a smaller yield. Also, I've grown with soil. I had absolutely no problems with it. No pests, no stunted plants, or bad yields. It might depend upon how it's taken care of. Well that's not entirely true. The only problem was when my friend decided one day he wanted to "help" and killed a plant, but he's been forgiven.

Just because something grows faster does not mean it grows bigger, ecspecially in with the same amount of light and space.
Thank you for this post. It is a question I have had for a long time. I only grow in Coco peat and I find it much easier for the reasons you mentioned. I just don't have the time to make sure that a hydro system does not go wrong. I find that you pick up problems in the organic grow and you still have time to fix it before it even starts. If you know what I mean.

I also find the grow much more economical. I use far less nutes and I have to water less. You also dont have the issue of a nute taste in the bud.

i beleive as most of you agree that soil/organic grown weed tastes much better and yeild between the two are not very different. If your growing for personal use i rekon soil is definately the way to go. But if your planning on commercial/dealing i would say hydro is much more efficient.
Most soil grows iv smoked Taste EARTHY, Hydro taste so much better, Much cleaner smoke and taste than soil. I disagree that soil bud taste better,

Are you sure ? Hydro over soil for taste 100%. Only thing thats right in that paragraph is the fact that the light would of helped put more bud on. People that tend to grow in soil wont slag it and same for hydro. Fact is tho hydro taste whey better.

Iv'e never grown hydro. So i reccommend soil. :/
Thats what im saying in my last post mate, {People who grow in soil will say its better than hydro and vice versa. Iv tasted plenty of soil grows(even tho ppl's might be diff) they were 98% earthy taste, The ppl who grew them smoke there own bud, So id pressume they flush it the best they can, Hydro weed pisses over soil bud, If it dosnt why is most bud in the dam hydro ?

More people do it because its less mess and easier
(once you learn it) and because of not dealing with insects. I don't know what you mean by "Earthy"? But if it was grown in the earth i'm sure it should taste " Earthy".

Id agree soil is easier but how is it less mess lol ? By Earthy i mean it tastes and smells like earth. Im not saying every1s Hydro grows are better than soil, Bcuz ppl can screw up in \hydro worse than soil. But if you know what your doing Hydro bud taste alot better than soil grown.
