hps vs hps

sometimes i do it as the plants grow, sometimes i let them flower for a couple weeks then trim, i think it is better done as the plant grows. this grow is a couple years old but i think they weren't trimmed until the 2/3rd week of flower. no light made it through the solid 15" canopy so better to be rid of that lower shit.
so im guessing you didnt have to top them???

some strains need to be topped in my experience, some don't need it, these are part of the latter group.

im feeling like 3 400 watters would cover more space and better yeild than 2- 600's.....but im gonna stand strong saying 3-400 watters will yeild twice as much in a 8x6 space than 900 watts of cfl....so ill wait to see what it will be with the 400's

2x 600W will both provide more lumens, increasing the efficiency of your electricity use, and will provide higher light penetration. 600W are the most efficient HPS bulbs.

The only reason you should use anything other than 600W or 1000W is if your grow is very small.

anything is possible if you put your mind to it. the best yield i ever had from a 600w light was 800g dry, that was in a 4x4 tent though and if you have more room around the plants they will simply get bigger.
Okay, let's talk about this for a second! That comes out to 1.33 grams per watt, are you shitting me? I'm not exactly calling "Bull Shit" on this one, but I would like to hear what kind of Top Hat and Cane you used to produce that.

Grams per watt isn't really relevant to anything at all until you add a third variable. Time.

Veg for 6 months and that 600W will suddenly yield a ton of g/watt. But the low g/watt Sea of Green next door will harvest 3-4 times in that same time and probably end up with more weight.

waybaked.....what um stuck on is the length of my table wich is 7 0r 8 feet in length and 5 feet in width...6 or 7 feet from table to ceiling......ok i want to put 40 girls in 10 litre pots in that grow space...i mean all the pots will fit.....ok now im tryna get a better view on wether 3 400's would cover that space and provide at least 3 ounces per plant or will i only get that number with 2 600's???

There are a lot of variables that will make a lot more difference than the choice between 2x 600 and 3x 400.

If 3x 400W is significantly easier for you to set-up and use, then by all means do it, just use the reduced heat to bring your lights closer to your plants.

If they're about equal in difficulty of use, then go with 2x 600W because it will result in better coverage.

From the start, though, if your grow floorspace is 8' x 5' = 40 sq. ft. then 1200W will only result in 30 watts per sq. ft. A minimum of 40-50 watts per sq. ft is recommended for Cannabis. It will work, but yield can be expected to be diminished.

If your only choices are 3x 400W or 2x 600W, however, I would have 2x 600W each covering a roughly 5' x 4' area.

thanks....how many plants in a 5x4 with 10litre pots could fit max with good yeilds?? under 2 600's
Fill the canopy.

You can use less plants and train them for a full, even canopy, or you can use more plants...

It also depends on what strain you are growing, if it tends to grow single-cola type, it's better to have a sea of plants; if it's very bushy and branchy; I'd grow a handful of monster bushes.

i havnt read beyond this comment but wanna chime in here...
i personally have a 8 x 6 1/2 room and run 3 1000w and avg yield off 6 plants is 2lbs. i ran 5 600w a few years ago and only averaged 1 and a half lbs. i personally thought that spreading out the lights a bit more with the 5 hoods would do better coverage of space...but uhh huhh...the higher discharge of light out of the 1000's straight up smokes the smaller bulbs, hands down. i wouldnt believe it myself if i hadnt done it and seen it with my own 2 eyes. just trying to save u the $$ of wanting to upgrade to 1000's later down the road because the are 100% the way to go with larger spaces like that :)

sounds good but i know 4 sure i wont be running 3000 watts for 6 plants (HUGE LIGHT BILL!!!)...man ive did those numbers with 900 watts of cfl 15 to 18 plants in a smaller closet ...thats why im about to upgrade and waybaked help me choose..im gonna go with 2 600's and see what it does ....i just know everybody keeps supporttin hps so im guessing ill yield a hellava lot more than the cfls did regardless....thats all im hoping!!

3000 watts for 6 plants .....really??????? i mean really???? seriously really????
ya really. they are not small plants by any means and they are all not on the same cycle. now that i read my above posting it sounds and looks kind of weird to me too..oops. i cycle 2-4 plants in to flower every 2-3 weeks and harvest 2-3 at the same time...so for a couple weeks there might be 8-10 ladies in there untill i get the finished ones down. one week out of the month i shut one of the hoods off when i have new shorter 5 footers in there...when they hit their strech (bout a week-10 days) i fire the 3rd hood back up because once the ladies stretch and fan out, the extra light is much needed. wash rince and repeat
