someone anyone tell me is this crap true.....a guy just told me that 3-400 watters does not equal 2-600 watters in an 8x6 space???!!! um like wtf!!!??? why not?? anybody feel you can yeild more with 3-400's ...all good opinions seriously welcome

600w bulbs are the most efficient they produce more lumens per watt than any other bulb.

if you have 3x400w bulbs you might be able to get them closer to the plants as they create less heat, but they lack the penetration that a 600w has.

400's still have almost as good of a lumen watt ratio as 600's do. they get 150 lumen/watt and 400's get 125 lumen/watt. anything beyond 600w's you lose the lumen watt ratio.
the only upside to 400's i see is the ability to have 3 bulbs instead of two
that means you can add in a different spectrum.
Personally i'd run an MH 400w in the middle with 2x 400w HPS's on either side, doing a rectangular grow, if i were to use 400's. I could also take the 400w mh out and use it to veg
but 600's are most likely the better choice

ok....when i hear lack penetration i think about cfl's .......so what your saying is 2-600 watters will do better in an 8x6 as far as covering the area and the yeild than 3-400 watters will???

an 8x6 needs 4x 600w in my opinion. whether 3x400w will out yield 2x600w in an 8x6 i have no clue sorry

i said that to say ...in an 8x6 using 900 actual cfl watts ive gotten a pound dry off 30 plants with a 5 week veg 9 week flower.....so 4-600's should be like growing outdoors...lol

anything is possible if you put your mind to it. the best yield i ever had from a 600w light was 800g dry, that was in a 4x4 tent though and if you have more room around the plants they will simply get bigger.

i had an 8x4 tent with 26 2ft tall plants in, the strain was critical+ by dinafem, there aren't many strains that you could get so much production from.

Three 400 watts will give you more light coverage than 2-600 watts.

600 watts are more efficient and will give you better energy to light and penetration.

The 3-400 watt bulbs will create as much heat as 2-600s. 1200 watts is 1200 watts. And the 400s may actually produce a bit more heat. But in a 6x8 area its a toss up. IMO neither combination is going to give good coverage of the entire foot print of that space.

now thats something i need to start doing.....trimming from the bottom...cause those bottom branches are useless to me....when did you do all the lower trimming?

400 watt HPS = 54,000 lumens. 600 watt HPS = 90,000 lumens.

54,000 x 3 = 162,000 lumens
90,000 x 2 = 180,000 lumens

Numbers dont lie. 2x 600 is better then 3x 400....

sometimes i do it as the plants grow, sometimes i let them flower for a couple weeks then trim, i think it is better done as the plant grows. this grow is a couple years old but i think they weren't trimmed until the 2/3rd week of flower. no light made it through the solid 15" canopy so better to be rid of that lower shit.

Only thing is plants do not grow on lumens. The Par light difference between a 400 and 600 of the same bulb is almost nill. The 600 wins on penetration only. And if you are only growing 2 ft tall plants the 400 will be plenty of penetration. So many ways too look at it. I wouldnt use total lumens as one the main determining factor...
