hps vs hps

400 watt HPS = 54,000 lumens. 600 watt HPS = 90,000 lumens.

54,000 x 3 = 162,000 lumens
90,000 x 2 = 180,000 lumens

Numbers dont lie. 2x 600 is better then 3x 400....

End of your answers i hope, you are aware the lumen output varies by the bulb yes some 600's are 95k some are 85k, some 400's are 55k some are not meaning your math is false due to not having the proper variables represented. And also the quality of the bulb as well, you get what you pay for, if you go cheap expect to lose lumen output quicker then more expensive.. Theres variables into play here some ppl are not taking into consideration. Instead they spew out an answer in an attempt to try to get their rep and post count up... Gotta love the scene kids...

OP:
The answer is yes 2 600's can, if you do your research and stop listening to scene kids..

If you are growing lots of small plants the 400s will most likely be better and give you more footprint
some of the little sog style plants i see around produce colas that are smaller, than what a 250w hps would produce on a larger plant
so small plants do not need much light intensity
i use 600w myself as i tend to grow larger plants

peace

thanks....i was a little confused at first but i came to my senses and realized that wether i did 3 400 watters or 2 600 watters in an 8x6x5x6it would still give me way more yeild than 900 actual watts of cfl...at least i hope it will....um just now upgrading to hps

lol....jeffdogg maybe i shouldve just asked can i expect more yield using 2 600 watters in an 8x6x5x6 than i could using 900 actual cfl watts(a million bulbs and cords)

#1. Lumens aren't additive.

#2. Don't /end thread your own post, especially when you're that wrong.

What a failboat...

in your own opinion....what do you think the difference would be between 3 400watters and 900 watts worth of cfl's....huge difference or barely even noticeble in a 8x6x5x6?

Define 900 watts of CFL's. Are they the 20-26 watts bulbs? 125Watt ones?, all flower bulbs or some veg too? etc..? How is the coverage? Can you spread them around to get all around coverage while keeping them 1''-4'' away from the leaves?

its mixed i got like 5 0r 6 of the 68 watt equiv to 300 watt bulbs i got som 42 watters equiv to 150 watts i got some 55 watters equiv to 250 watts and a lot of the 27 watters equiv to 100watts but i only counted the actual watts to equal 900 and they are mixed with the 6500k and the 2700 k and as far as distance....lol hell thats why im tryna use the right hps setup that wont go past 1200 watts for utility reasons and the fact that those dam cfls burn the hell outta my top colas and it seems as if the plants stretch like crazy

Hell i'd go with the CFL's and strategically place them for the best light coverage (inside the bush and around the outside of them). More light = more buds that math you can count on.

wow....lol you shocked me wit that one ...considering all ive been hearing about hps.......if thats the case i should take in consideration that ive been using the same cfls for 1 year and 5 months and its time to replace them ...ive never asked that question about do the bulbs get weak on output or do they just blowout??? cause when my second grow with those bulbs was a huge turnout but my last one a month ago was small...could it be bulbs are dying?

400w puts out 55,000 lumens on average more on start up
600w puts out just under 82,000 average and 90,000 initial
you can spread basically the same amount of lumens out
and probably fit more plants in the same space
with less shadows since there is a extra light source angle goin on there
i could see the 3 400w coming out ahead if every plant was dialed in

and to answer you cfl question on life span
around 6 months your cfl's will start to lose kick
faster the cheaper they are usualy

and everytime i look in my grow room thats what i see too man..im being indecisive but my 1st mine did say 3 400's cause it covers my area tight.....and also i just learned that i made a newbbie error by growing with the same cfl's for about a year and a half not realizing the dam lights have weakened....so with that being said im not about to go out and buy 25 cfls's hell come out cheaper 3 new 400 watters.......i found my answer in this thread thanks tekdc and all of you guys

i bought a cooltube on ebay apollo 400w digital ballast and the bulb i bought for it cost about as much as the dam setup lol but for a ipower 6" fan and filter and that reflector and ballast it was roughly $ 250 with shipping
then $ 80 for the bulb but with bulbs you get what you pay for

really??? lol...i mean i seen the whole setup online at amazon 400 watt digital ballast with 1mh @1 hps bulb for like $117.00....and i also have seen replacement bulbs 4 like $16 to $20 on amazon.....but i guess the$80 bulbs last longer or theyre stronger or something??? either way i cant wait for more fat ass nugs lol!! hey tek....you ever heard of a strain called purple paralysis???? if so do you have info on making them actually go purple cause the last ones did not turn...but i cut 10 clones so i can try again

I would say with that space go with 1k's. You will kick yourself in the ass later like I'm going to myself now.

And yes the yield will show from the switch to hps.

nah ...i just dont wanna go past 1800 watts...so ill stick with 3 400s for my large tent and 1 600 in my small tent..if hps will give me more than i got when my cfls where new then im grateful no need to be greedy....lol

Alright I hear you on that. But trust me on this if 1800 watts is your limit then bump the 400s and get 3x600s. I used to use a 400 then a 600 now I want to either add another 6 or 1k. The 6's blow the 400s out the water and the difference is clear as day.

but 3 400's are a total of 1200 watts covering the full space....and one 1000 watt wont cover an 8x6x5x6 ...so to me a 1k will only lead to me going over 1800(adding more lamps to cover shadows)....... and dont forget my 1800 is being split between 2 tents im gonna use 1 600 in the smaller space and the other 1200 in my larger tent...see what i mean????

I see what you are saying and either way it will work. I'm just trying to save you the headache now because you will change those 400s out trust me.. first hand experience
