I'd start looking at the yellow pistils right about now bro! In the last weeks I swear the will look done then spew yellow pistils at least twice bro!
My Critical Jack did it three times before I pulled it! But I feel like when you stop seeing those yellow pistils in high numbers, the plants are nearing done.

...

When you pulled you bud earlier than you should it shinks more during the dry as well.
When you let em go, they don't shrink the half bro!

...

Otherwise, everything looking RIGHT on time :joint:
Yeah, it's kinda clear to see that the buds are still growing even though I'm itching to chop the first one, it wouldn't make any sense while they are still growing.

Yeah, wanna keep shrinkage to the minimum.

Thanks man.

And I see at least a couple more weeks swell in these guys!
Check out the 2nd to last page on my thread bro! Shows a bud from each harvest over the course of eight!
You can REALLY see the difference in the buds between the first two and last two harvested, as the first two weren't allowed to mature!
Yeah, I'm gonna let them go longer since they are still growing.

I bumped into your thread yesterday, that was just like music too :joint:

So you guys will get a good laugh about this. My plant has been flipped for 12 and a half weeks now. It started budding after 2-3 weeks so if you count the days from the first buds then its at around ten weeks of bloom, which isnt that bad, (thats what i keep telling myself at least;)) i think it still has a week left rotfl, fml, :(:(:(

It's no laughing matter.

If the seed companies were more responsible they would inform their customers of more realistic flowering times/windows.

Very irritating.

It's gonna be interesting if while the buds are still developing I reach my desired trichome ratios.

I added some Bat Guano to the grow medium when I first got it two weeks ago.

And they had their weekly feed of molasses yesterday.

They seemed to have had a new growth spurt even overnight.

Happy days :joint:

I realise now (first time growers take note) that one of the objectives of the first time grower must be to see how long, deep, far they can take their plants into the final stages of flowering.

I have learnt that the trichomes don’t change that fast (another concern for the first time grower) you only need to check every other day at most. And then only once the calyxes have started to swell giving the buds an uneven bubbly/pebbled appearance (this is the calyxes swelling a sign that the plant is entering maturity).

A few random ambers don't mean anything when there is an abundance of clear trichomes and can mislead the new grower into thinking it's chop time.

With this knowledge now in my possession, I have now taken of time limits, let the ladies grow and fatten (isn't that what all good farmers do)?

Add a month to the stated harvest time on the seed packaging with a margin for error a week either side of that.

You want your buds to get fat?

Well take off the time limits and they will tell you when they're ready.

That's what I've learnt this last week.

Also, patients is a key ingredient of the Urban Farmer, I've learnt that too :bigjoint:

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Herb Man again.

VERY VERY NICE POST!
Being one run removed from being a first timer, I can vouch for every bit of this post!
Also could add that indica and sativa strains both have "peak harvest windows" rather than days!
Indicas peak harvest window(closest to 100% milky) may be a week or two at best.
And sativas harvest window can beek anything from a couple weeks to a month, as they take longer to mature.

Once you've passed this window, the THC starts converting and degrading.
Also, when you let the plan go the distance, don't worry about a few bananas as the very end.
Maybe you won't get any, but if you do, just let them chill..Don't bother trying to removed them becuase you'll break them and spread pollen around.
They don't do anything. The won't flower and spread pollen around, it's just a last ditch effort for the plant to leave some of itself for the future season..

Thanks man, been meaning to Rep you for putting in Work, lol.

Yeah I'm familiar with the windows, that's why I say to newbie’s don't even bother checking the trichs everyday, doing it every other day once the buds have bubbled with swollen calyxes and the pistils start slowing growth and are drying out is more than enough.

I don’t even look at my big Sativa right now, I know she's gonna take longer than the Indica's, so I won't even look at her through the magnifier till the indica's have been chopped for a couple weeks.

Feed them and let them grow :joint:

How you holdin out HM?

Man, I turned a corner when I realised just how much growth these things had in em beyond the point that I thought was chopping time.

It really opened my eyes as to how easy it must be for the new comer Urban Farmer to chop too soon.So the time limits are off.

And I better understand what a mature bud looks like now.

Looking around at some of these harvests bro, you'd be SHOCKED how many ppl pull early!

Also, I watch the amount of green in the plant too.
Because we don't feed out plants, you get the luxury of watching it die before you eyes lol, as all annual late flowering plants do in the fall.
You'll see the fan leaves go first from the bottom up, then maybe some of the smaller fans too. When they're ready to fall, all you gotta do is push on them just a LITTLE bit and they'll fall! The plants rent evergreen. so that green to me signals unripe as well!
All leaves should yellow except the bud leaves! You know everything is still good when you bud leaves are nice and lush, but the other leaves are like falling apart lol!

Good Morningafternoon boss lol

Greetings Since, yeah, as you describe it is exactly as I'm seeing it.

I was just taking a look back down memory lane at some of the pics, all the lush green leaves, lol, they are mostly gone now

The yellowing leaves are natures way of saying the plant has almost completed it's mission or season, in the same way that a tree sheds its leaves when it shuts off for the fall.

Just natures way of saying, it's a wrap.

All the plant recourses are put into those last few growth spurts of bud at this final stage it seems.

Week 10 of flowering under 400w HPS

1 bud, 1 box continued.

So being a first time Urban Farmer I thought I would do a little drying and curing test run with a bottom branch pop corn bud (OG Kush).

Cut it, hung it in a box for four days (on the 3rd day it smelt great- on the 4th day it smelt kinda like hay) I think 3 days would have been enough.

I then did a quick cure 3 days (I know three days probably doesn't constitute a cure but this was just a test run).

I then smoked (for the next few days).

Even though it's immature bud, it put a smile on my face.

We got good bud.
