Hey I need help ASAP, my roots are COVERED in brown shit, idk if it's because of the dark brown color of my Rez, but it looks horrible. Plants look healthy still though. I added hydro guard yesterday. Just added some cold water to lower Rez temps. Air stone working good I think...

How much water am I supposed to have in the rez compared to how far down the roots hang from the net pot??? I have the water all the way up to the bottom of the net pots, with the roots all fullysubmerged in the water

This is with the lid up for the picture, of course the water is actually a lot higher when the lid is in place. pH at a nice 6.1

Jesus, I looks like you poured a gallon of food colouring in there. Tell us what you've done so far...

First off - you're in hydro so your PH should be 5.5-5.8.
A little lower is usually fine. Any higher and you'll lock out nutrients.
What's your tap water reading out of the tap?
Are you treating your water or bubbling it before feed?

6.1 you want for Soil grows.

What is the temp of your res? Looks like it's been going well over 26c...

Also - don't allow your rockwool cubes to pull in water, they'll go green and slimy. Yor res height should be just shy of the bottom of the net pot.

Im hydro @ 6.8pH, so that's not necessarily true. It depends on what your chelation of nutrients is.

Okay first what have you been feeding it? how often to you cycle your water?

Water temp is at 76-78, top off with cold water every now and then to cool a bit, I live in the hottest and most humid state in the US.. Take a guess.

The nutrients I use came with the grow box, recommended by the supplies. I've actually been using 1/2-3/4 amount they recommended. The dark ass color is just what the nutes turn the water.

I change the Rez every 4-5 days, I'll change and clean it today right when I get home.

There's my nutes guys thanks for all the replies hopefully we can get this solved. By the way the plants look and smell great and grow new shoots every day, along with a great bud smell coming through.

Box temps are around 77 at night and 80 during the day.. I blow a fan with a frozen gallon behind the fan blowing cold air into the box every day when I get home, as well to gain some stem strength

I don't have a PPM/EC meter, I have all the other meters but that. Like I said I've been using less then suggested nutes I didn't think it would be a problem
Forget PPMs, as after you mix nutrient brands, it becomes less and less accurate.
Stick with EC

Im petty sure you're a little higher than you think, being that dark. I recommend getting a Truncheon
download (3).jpg

About $75-100 US, but are great because never calibration needed.

Understand that the real darkness of the water, and the staining on the walls of the Rez is plain and simple the color that the nutes immediately turn the water when added. Even to a gallon jug of water and then shaken. Just like how a packet of iced tea powder would react. I mean I would be more then willing to switch nutes... But the plants look fantastic, rate of growth is well, and there is no flaws in the leaves or new growths. The main concern is the root which is why I started this, a bit hard to believe the source of the problems is the nutes

Does it smell funny? Like stagnant?
Are the roots breaking apart easily?

If everything's growing fine and you don't have these symptoms, then you probably will have nothing to worry about.

However - the fact you have a lot of slime in there tells me that your res temps maybe way too high and assuming your a proper DWC, that it's not draining 4 times a day back into the header tank to remix and redistribute. Again tho that would give you a stagnant smell.

I'll also say again that your res it too high. Your pots need to be just off the surface- your roots will submerge themselves. Water and rockwool cubes make gunge!
Make sure you also wash any clay pebbles THOROUGHLY, before they go into your system. They put off a lot of dust which makes a funk in the water.

If you're using RDWC then I would suggest trying a different brand of nutrients and start singling out what it can and can't be.
Go with liquid nutes. Powders in your DWC are obviously causing problems here.

That's my take.

Does not look like hydroponic nutrients are being used. I believe those nutrients are organic. What's the ingredients on the back say?
