wow.. thanks for that.. I have to say that was one of the most informative post ive read on these boards..I thank you for taking the time to post that.. Def +rep for that.I definately learned a thing or three from your post.
Knowledge is power my friend. I'm VERY surprised by the number of people who think my guns are select fire and call them 'assault weapons.' They think that AR stands for Assault Rifle when it really means Armalite, the company that created it back in the late 50's.

Your guys' knowledge of weed is very supreme to mine in many ways, my knowledge of guns is very vast and I know people who know a TON more about them than I do.

The bottom line is that without guns the US would not be. 'Assault Rifles' saved us from the British and have kept us a country for over 200 years. To deny the fact that US has and always will need guns in the hands of citizens is to deny the fact that our country is based on freedom.

+Rep 2 you,

Good info, here the tough gun laws have put the weapons into the hands of criminals while denying the average citizen the right to protect themselves...

Wrong. The NRA and the ability to easily get access to guns have put guns in the hands of criminals. Most European countries have much tougher gun laws than the US and have much less crime.

Not that I am an expert but unless you have an unregistered firearm you shoud be ok however if the authorities can show your primary intent for the firearms were to protect your crop it will def not reflect well.

We use the Australia crime rate in conjunction with the date of your gun control laws to prove to our government here that gun control does not work. I really don't know if we'll be able to keep Obama out of our gun safes.

The funny thing is that the safest country to live in is the one where EVERY citizen enters the military and upon leaving they keep their fully auto rifle and semi auto side arm. That would be Switzerland. They got sick of being over run by the Germans and decided never again. Now they have the fewest per capita gun deaths in the world. The tiny percentage they do have is attributed to suicide, there's almost no crime... Go figure.

Guns are a part of life, We need to stop avoiding them. Imagine gun safety/training was a REQUIREMENT in every school, I could almost guarantee murder rates would drop drastically. Knowledge is power, guns dont kill people, people without proper training or education kill people.

I guess so.. I respect my wifes wishes as she is correct 90% of the time lol.. Plus ,Im prolly one of the most non violent ppl you could ever meet.Plus my luck is such that I would end up shooting myself in the damn foot or have it ( a gun ) used aganst me lol.
Here's some 'fun facts' to impress your friends with. These stats are from the CDC website on gun violence. I'd post it but you guys can find it and I have these stats forever memorized.

68% of illegally possessed weapons are stolen from police officers.
3% of illegally possessed weapons are stolen from citizens.
1% of all gun deaths are caused by self inflicted wounds (accidental and suicide)

.5% of gun deaths are caused by a person being disarmed of their own weapon and having it used on them. (yes less than 1%)

Average Concealed Weapons states see a decrease of 10% in violent crimes in the first year. Florida came in highest with a decrease of 24%.
In Florida there's a 25% chance someone in the room has legally possessed gun. (It's nearing 33% these days)

In 15 years 1 police officer has been shot by a criminally owned fully automatic weapon. (So where's this assault weapon problem?)

In 10 years 2 police officers were shot with legally owned weapons in the US (1 of them by his partner.)

As far as I can tell most of the 'gun problems' are caused by careless police. Imagine if 68% of the illegally possessed guns on the street were to vanish. If the cops would hang on to their guns the criminals would have to deal with us armed citizens to get their guns, they really don't want to do that we have fewer rules on shooting than cops do.

umm thats just .. well... dumb imho.

I'd rather see more sex education and peer pressure education and real life training ( how to deal with bullies, drugs, how to get a good job etc etc ) than to see kids learning about guns.

Guns are not the problem. Its people who dont understand how to properly use them. A little knowledge goes a long way.

sex ed, drug education, etc. Im not saying they shouldnt be teaching that, but its totally off topic.

wow thats almost unbelievable to be honest. I would believe it if it were 68% of illegal weapons were stolen from homes.
Once you go through the process of getting guns Legally, the last thing you want to do is screw that up. Its a long process. Most gun guys are very passionate about their firearms And gun safety. A big part of that is taking on the responsibility to make sure your firearms dont get stolen.

It would be a horrible feeling to find out that someone got murdered with a gun that some punk stole from you. Even though you didnt pull the trigger, I would feel somewhat responsible for not taking more care to protect my firearms from thieves.

JT,

I have to sort of disagree with you here. I don't know a single person, gun owner or not, who hasn't been in the presence of guns at some point in their life. My first encounter with guns was when I was 6 years old an my uncle was cleaning his pistol. I was completely ignorant as to safety and handling of a weapon.

I agree sex education needs to be taught correctly or completely removed. I got 'basic' sex education before I was in school from my mom. I was later given more advanced knowledge again by my mom. High school sex ed only taught me how to blow up a condom to bounce around the room for laughs. I already knew everything else taught. The current system simply doesn't work so either/or is fine with me.

I think peer pressure and how to deal with bullies and drugs should be in the hands of the parents and not the schools. If parents don't teach these things it's Darwinism at work (which with the idiots in our world we need working.) Schools should teach kids to learn and think. Right now they're teaching standardized testing which is completely worthless. I think there should be a required minimum of a gun safety course that's 1/2 a semester long. I also think that marksmanship should be an optional sport. It's considerably more useful than say Javelin throwing or the hammer toss. I don't see how either of those could feed a family.

The schools are becoming frighteningly socialist. One of the things going on down here is 'give us the school supplies your parents bought you and we'll decide who gets them when.' There's only so much subservience we should let our kids learn. I children SHOULD know that it's not only ok but expected for a US citizen to question authority and it's motives. My generation is too subservient for my taste and I only see more generations becoming more and more willing to accept tyranny.

Schools should teach independence and free thought. As far as gun classes, they're low on my list. I think the first thing that should happen is the removal of standardized testing for federal funding. It's teaching kids regurgitation, not thinking.

IMHO thats the way it is most of the time.. criminals/punk kid dealers etc dont go out and buy guns from stores. stolen guns jsut keep getting recirculated.. I would almost bet that most guns used in crimes are stolen from homes.

yea I agree .. But when you look at most of the at risk teens today they come from broken families or families that are drug addicts or families that just dont give a fuck... so the cycle just perpetuates itself.

For a living I'm a network engineer. You know how many network cables I lose per year? A ton, they're just another job tool. That's how most cops see their guns, as work tools. They lose perspective on 'keeping them safe.'

A gun guy spends hard earned money, usually for the 'best gun' he can afford. Then there's the background checks, training courses, and range memberships. My first gun purchase totaled $5000 after training for the wife and I, range memberships, and concealed permits. There's now way I'm not spending the minor $600 - $1000 for a safe to keep them in when I'm not home after what I spent already.

Cops have 2 - 3 guns on them at all times. Usually a pistol on the belt, a rifle and a shotgun in the trunk. Between stolen cars and carelessness MANY cops lose a gun at some point. I know one cop lost his glock by getting lunch. He took it out of his holster because it added 2lbs to his carrying load. Someone broke his window and took it right out of his car while he was getting fast food. My gun is NEVER left sitting in plain sight in a vehicle or just sitting around my house. It's on me, next to me, or locked up.

Citizens go through too much to get a gun to have it stolen because they were careless.

True.. without going TOO far off topic (too late) The cycle perpetuates itself because we tax payers GIVE GIVE GIVE GIVE out of our successful, educated paychecks to 'perpetuate' this very system. We provide Social Security, Welfare and Medicaid to keep these slackers alive.

We fight Darwinism as long as it involves humans. if we accept that a certain percentage is simply not mentally or physically able to survive then we're 'inhuman.' So we reward the weak by keeping them well fed.

Very funny story. I warned a close friend of mine to cover her outdoor plants to protect them from a frost that was coming. She replied that she would leave it up to natural selection to sort out which plants lived in her yard and which ones died. Yet she also supports socialized medicine to provide medical care to people either unwilling or unable to earn a paycheck that would enable them to pay for health care. So in her mind Natural Selection only applies to the world outside of humanity. If it were not for natural selection then humanity probably would be much worse of today than it is. Yet we support the opposite of natural selection in the terms of being 'humane' and 'compassionate.'

Check the stats for yourself. Cops are f'n careless.
Yes gun guys lose guns. I know a guy who had his safe ripped out of the foundation of his house so criminals could steal guns from him. He lost 15 guns. The percentages though, according to the CDC, show that cops are much more careless than gun guys. That's just stats. I'm only reporting that which is recorded.
