It would be kinda fun though. Everyone picks up their cut(s) on the same day. A person NOT involved in the competition (maybe a judge) provides the cut, and you do not find out what strain it is until the day you pick it up. You have to research the genetics, put it in to your medium of choice, and grow it out and trouble-shoot along the way using your skills and experience to guide you.

Most anyone can grow some killer bud if you have an unreal pheno that you have dialed in from years of working with it.
This is the best idea yet.

I would imagine eliminating the losers would be the first thing. After a few tokes of all the samples I'm sure the real contenders would shine through. Then spend the rest of the time getting to know the ones you liked. Really for me I've been know to hold onto multiple phenos for quite a long time just to make sure I get the one that I like over and over and over. That takes at least a qp and a few months to really decide. Not an option at a competition, so you would never know if you picked perfectly.

I like the idea of everyone growing out the same clone, but I also think pheno selection says something about the growers palate, which contributes to there overall ability. Sometimes people have completely different tastes, would suck to try dialing in a plant that wasn't even capable of producing the kind of smoke I like.

Either way way would be fun. I don't know how we would correctly distribute sample in a neutral way? Maybe throw a small party at a farmers market on a day off?

I don't understand how judging works, if I wanted to test 8 samples it would take a minimum of 19 hours to be accurate.

This thread is blowing my mind and I haven't even finished it all yet. I don't live in Michigan but I did my high school time in Midland through 1963. Then it was off to UofM where I majored in political trouble making and discovered weed. Have rarely been back since. Some of you, no doubt, remember how things were back then. Things sure have changed and I'm not sure if it's for the better. I live in a pretty tight assed med state now and have no interest in trying to go legal. I think there needs to be a whole lot more sorting out of this legal weed thing before it's safe to stick my head above ground. I know how to grow and how to stay out of jail. I hope you all do too. I don't want to see the Monsanto of the weed business crawling across the countryside. So maybe it's best if things stay at least a little bit illegal.

Sounds fun for sure. I just hesitate to bring a foreign plant into my grow room. Well, actually I won't. Got spidermites in 2010 I don't ever want to get them again. Took me 6 months to get rid of them, been clean ever since.

I think it should be done one of two ways.

Best Caregiver: providing multiple strains and other mmj products. This would be my preference.

Best Grower: Who can grow the best from a 5 pack of seeds. All the same strain. I kind of got to do something like this through GP. Did a test grow for Subcool and XBRPete sent out Qush seeds to 20 growers before the strain was released. I only had room to use two seeds. It was fun until GP had a blow out with XBRPete and Subcool so nobody finished their journals except for me.

That's a legitimate concern. I don't blame you one bit for feeling like that.

AK47 femanized just had a side by side done in high times to compare both AK47 and the fem version. VERY stable. that type of established tested seed stock would be good.

Thanks, man. One of these days I'm going to get around to making a pilgrimage back to Ann Arbor. I've still got a couple of friends there.

I would love to smoke a good example of AK. I have tried many a sample from others and I'm usually a little let down. Not that it's not good, just not worthy of such a reputation. I would have probably order a pack years ago but I'm a little scared I'd end up with the same thing I've already tried.

Either way a little friendly competition sounds fun. There is a small hall for rent around here that people used always rent out to have bands play and throw parties. I bet a bunch of us could find somewhere similar and have in not be to expensive to throwdown and have us a potluck/RIU cup (pure MI style).

Everyone has their tastes and preferences.. I feel the same way about OG Kush.. Everyone seems to love that shit, I don't care for it too much, I like more of a spicy or fruity smoke mixed with some rotten skunk asshole. :D

I would take the claim to uniformity as a guarantee that all of your plants are going to be big yielding, potent plants. That pheno that smells like a cherry tootsie pop though... Yum.. It's all good though. I can't remember what I gave you but I don't think it was the cherry, I don't think that was done curing yet.
