First Grow: Are My Girls Looking, Okay?

Hey Mandi, I'm glad your BM is a female!!!! Hope the Northern Lights are females as well. What kind of lights are you using to grow those trees?
Hey Chief...Yeah, I was so happy when she started showing hairs! It was taking a while to see any change when I put her into flower, so I was hopeful - then finally she got with the program and did her thing. She's only two weeks in now, but doing the stretching thing like crazy. On a sad note, the Master Kush I planted has just started popping balls all over, and its been only 5 days since I switched her lights! I'm thinking of growing him out for pollen (down in the basement) so if the other seed is a female, I will be able to produce some MK seeds for later. I plan to put the Northern Lights into flower in a few days and will cross my fingers... All is still using my CFLs - the damn weather is heating up here and I'm not liking the thermometer readings (highs of 82 degrees already). I may have to move my whole grow to the basement if things get any warmer, as I don't have the ability to cool my closet grow now (no A/C). I'm hoping the Mystic turns into another 'tree' with plenty of juicy bud...

Yeah also Jack Herer is a very good too!
I'm willing to give any good yielding, easy growing, low smell strain a try. I don't have a lot of room, so I need a decent harvest from the couple plants I can grow at a time!

my connect swares upon jack...lol
Is Jack a good med strain? I'm definitely on the hunt for one that is kind to new growers...

i personally believe any strain is a good medicial strain depending what your trying to cure headachs, sleep, anixity, stress, depression, and so on...i cant personally speak for jack herer because i have never smoked it but my buddie is kind of weird toward strains he dont really care for names etc. but jack herer is the only one i have ever heard him brag about and get excited over im deff trying to get my hands on some or a clone my next order i will buy some of the seeds if i have to.

So...it's been a while since I updated - if anyone is still checking for this thread, sorry for the long silence! My Blue Mystic is about 7 1/2 weeks into flower now. She has 4 colas, the tallest being 44inches, then two at around 38inches, and the runt at about only 28inches. She started out fairy even after topping, but soon gave way to a dominant cola. They seem to be budding in more of a foxtail type fashion than my AK48s did. Does anyone know if this is usual for the Blue Mystic strain, or do I have an oddball here?

I put a baby clone of the BM outside a few days ago to see what she would do in the real sunlight...she seems to like it just fine and has shown growth already!
BMbabyday1outside7-6-11.jpg

I've got a Northern Lights that is about 5 1/2 weeks in, and in just the last week, she's trying like hell to 'outbud' her BM roommate! If the bud she's put on in the last week is any indication of what she will do in the next 3 weeks or so, I am going to be pretty happy with her yield. She's only about 33inches on the two tallest colas, and has two in the 26inch range - I like to top for the 4 colas, but they don't grow as evenly as Uncle Ben's beauties in his topping thread...guess I don't quite have the touch yet. LOL

I clipped a bunch of clones from the Northern Lights when I put her into flower. I've got six left after sharing with friends, and since one pal lost his to a hungry rabbit in his yard, I will be donating another to him once he gets a fence to protect her. I think I'll be able to make do with 5 NL ladies - I plan to keep cutting clones from them to have her going as long as I can (only have one other NL seed). I hear lots of good things about the strain, so I hope I like it...

Nice mandi, good to see you back and your garden is looking great. Northern Lights IMO is the "God Father of Bud" especially to most of us old timers. That was my 1st real smoke when I was in High School. I always laugh when I go to dispensaries and see it for so cheap. A great smoke that packs a punch, def cough lock highs! I got KC Brain's Northern Lights Special that is Flowering right now only day 2. I also have Northern Skunk strain flowering too. It seems now a days everyone wants Kush and everything is crossed w/Kush, well NL was like that back in the day and to me is still my favorite strain. I didnt want to grow Northern Lights till I knew for sure I can grow, so thats why I had just started with Northern Lights. Keep us posted and dont be a stranger.

Peace

BMbabyday1outside7-6-11.jpg BM&NL10dayswild7-18-11.jpg BM&NLwild13days8-1-11.jpg Put a Blue Mystic clone outside the first week of July...that is her in the orange bucket, just a week and a half later. She was adding about an inch a day! The girl next to her is the cloned top of my Northern Lights that is currently finishing up in my grow closet. I thought it wise to fence her from rabbit attacks. You can see from the third photo that the NL is now as tall as the surrounding greenery - I left things wild and overgrown to help my girls blend in, but I may have to move them soon if they start stretching. I'm not seeing any buds yet...so the stretch is still to come. I just hope they'll have enough time to get thru flower before the weather turns too cold for them. This is my first attempt at an outdoor grow, and the weather has been very hot and dry. They seem to like it okay, and the bugs have been fairly kind and not eating too much. I've got some Sevin spray to beat them back if necessary...
NL9wks8-3-11.jpg NL9wksflwr8-3-11.jpg NL9wk8-3-11.jpg This is my Northern Lights mom at about 9weeks flower. She is pretty sticky and I'm anxious to get at her! Does NL need 10-11 weeks flowering time? It seems like she may be getting close, but since the NL buds are so different from the AK48 and Blue Mystic, I don't know what to expect from them. I'm used to the fat donkey dick colas that I got from my first two grows, and this NL bud is made up of clusters of fingers. Does she look okay? How much longer do you think she needs?
BM2-5wks8-3-11.jpg BMmomcolas8-3-11.jpg This is the cloned top of my Blue Mystic mom at about 5 weeks into flower. The colas are from her mother - I lost the fattest of three to mold last week! Damn heat and humidity has been brutal, and I was heartbroken to find a furry white coat growing on my girl. Luckily, the other two colas seem fine and are hanging on the drying line now...

To anyone who is still following this thread...sorry about the long time between posts - I've just been so busy, and sleep has taken priority over time online. I'll try to keep up better...LOL -Mandi

Here are the outside girls...growing nicely and about to be relocated to a spot with better camoflage. They're almost as tall as the surrounding weed cover that is supposed to be helping them blend in, so if they get much taller in the stretch, it could become an issue. I still can't see any sign of buds, and I'm really wondering if they're going to run out of time to flower properly before the cold weather hits. Does anyone in the Great Lakes area of the US have experience with an outdoor grow - how late into October do you usually let them go? I cut most of my indoor Northern Lights yesterday, left the lowest branches to go a few more days. I can't wait to get it dried enough for a taste...it sure smells fantastic! I'll put up yield and smoke reports when I can. -Mandi

So...the Northern Lights gave a yield of just over 2ozs from my CFL closet grow. The Blue Mystic was just shy of 2ozs, but the fat cola I lost to mold would have certainly put her over two and a half. As for the 'wild girls' I have going outside...they are doing great! The plan was to let them go natural and see what they could do with only what they would get in the wild. Since the weather didn't help me out with enough rain, I relented and gave them water to avoid stressing them too much. I hope they'll be potent with getting the REAL sun! The blue mystic was pretty small when she started, so I'm happy that she is about 3 feet tall. The northern lights is going crazy with two huge branches that are full and healthy, and she is over five and a half feet now. They're both a few weeks into flower (I'm not exactly sure when they started), judging from the looks of the buds, so I hope they will be able to properly finish before the cold gets them in October. The NL could yield a good 3-4 ozs if she keeps going like she's started, and I'm hoping for a few more weeks of good weather to send her over the quarter pound mark...time will tell if the outdoor project is successful enough to try it again next year with a few more ladies.

NL5girls8-30-11.jpg Here are a few clones of the Northern Lights in the veg room. I'm going to move them into flower in two weeks when the Blue Mystic in there is out of the way. I know they won't be that big, but I need to be sure they have time to finish before the holidays when there will be family coming into the house. Can't have the place reeking of my weed then, so I need to have it harvested and in curing jars by December 24th. LOL

3herijuana1ladycaneblueberry8-30-11.jpg Here are my Herijuana and Ladycane X Blueberry sprouts a few days after germing. These babies were SO ready to go, putting out taproots in only 20hrs, and popping from the soil less than a full day from planting! I can only hope that shows what they're going to do for me later... It was a long wait for the Heri seeds to arrive (due to a lost package), but Sannie is a good guy and made it right. I'm not sure what to expect from the Ladycane X Blueberry, but the Herijuana is supposed to be a killer smoke.

Will try to update in another week, or whenever there is obvious results to show... -Mandi
